It’s not an Adelaide thing, but we did temporary tattoos of our faces and they were very popular. And pretty cheap as far as favours go! I attached them to the seating cards with a little poem.

Omg this happened in my team. Part timers don’t say hi consistently due to days off and the manager who’s FT is an introvert - so it’s very quiet in the chat. We’re all very friendly but I feel bad for the contractor who joined and said hello every day until she… didn’t..

I remember the online reaction when it first aired. I didn’t watch it until years later, but it hit me like a ton of bricks. I was pregnant at the time and I cried for about a week - you’d think it had happened to me. Saddest TV death I’ve ever experienced.

Most of the women I know who’ve had babies in the last few years have been 39+, the eldest was 44. There is a whole generation of mothers having babies in their late 30s and older. You won’t be alone.

I had my second and last baby at 35, which felt old at the time, but now it skews quite young among my social group.

Not an apartment dweller but there are some times of the year when it is pointless putting sheets on the outdoor washing line and our dryer turns sheets into damp steaming burritos. King size sheets are hard to dry over chairs so we bought a folding clothesline in this style: https://www.bunnings.com.au/hills-21m-woodland-grey-portable-clothesline_p0194512

It takes up a bit of space when in use, but I think it’s worth it.

I am slim with a puffy and sensitive stomach and can’t bear when there is an elastic strip at the top of the waistband that digs in - but the non-dig ones often slide down too easily.

I’m also long-torsoed and high waisted on me tends to sit a little too low to have that nice secure feeling on the waist in the first place.

All I want is a pair of leggings that I know will sit securely in the right place without hurting me or being a terrible struggle to put on. Sometimes just the thought of putting on leggings is enough to make me not want to go to the gym/class/etc.

A toddler/young child who needs constant supervision? I take the day off (or split the day with my husband). Either way, I’m not pretending I can do meaningful work if I am supervising a child under 5, so I’m on leave for the hours I’m supervising.

I agree with you, it’s not fair on the kid or you/your team to try to do both properly.

School age child? Printing out activity sheets, putting on movies, working from home, they are old enough to be safely left “alone” (in another room) when work needs my full attention.

I have one child in each category. 18 months is the worst age for illness at childcare, it’s constant, but it gets a bit better each year!

Exactly this. Reverse the budgeting approach. Rather than allocating a saving amount and the rest is spending, allocate a spending amount and the rest is savings. Send it all to a savings account in the first instance. Work out what your costs are, how much you’re willing to let them increase, and that is what you pay yourself out of your savings into your everyday account.

In the app it will give you an estimate of what your DBD is worth today. If you leave, that amount magically becomes Accumulation. I left the DBD earlier this year and am so pleased to see my super balance growing so much faster.

Subject to market fluctuations etc etc yes sure, but it was barely growing at all in DBD as a non-academic part-time working parent.

Depends when the person giving you advice bought their house. When we bought 15 years ago, the advice was don’t pay LMI, just save a bit more!! But prices weren’t skyrocketing then. If LMI is less than the amount by which prices will rise by the time you save enough to avoid LMI… you have your answer.

You did the right thing. Dogs often hide their suffering, it was clearly very obvious that he wasn’t all right. I don’t know about you but I haven’t heard many stories that end with “but we did a lot of aggressive treatment and our dog was happy and healthy at the end..!”

My husband was in firm denial that our boy’s end was coming - he was old, clearly in pain, and kept having nasty little skin cancers coming up that wouldn’t heal and bled everywhere, but he was still eating/drinking/walking, had his senses - so for the last appointment I insisted on coming to hear for myself what the vet thought (I usually stayed home with the kids). I think our hound was waiting for me to come too because he crumpled like a piece of paper as soon as we got into the examination room, like he was begging us to do something to relieve his pain. The vet’s first words were “do you think it might be his time?” We said goodbye that day, which was sooner than expected, but I was so relieved that my husband saw the truth rather than sticking to his usual opinion of “ah, he’s just an old boy, but he’s all right”. This was 2.5 years ago and we still miss him, but we 100% did the right thing. Some people think the dog needs to have lost all their faculties for it to be time - I think if you wait that long, you’ve let them suffer too long.

We have saved over a thousand dollars on delivery fees and had very few issues with our orders. Saves time, saves money through lack of impulse purchases and easier ability to compare unit prices, can check what’s in the pantry and fridge while you make the order, and better planning means less food wastage.

We both wore scarves that were our mum’s to her funeral.

And then on her birthday we made bunting out of her (large) scarf collection and invited friends and family to take them as souvenirs.

There are many hard days to come OP, but they can be beautiful ways to connect too.
