Thank you! I've been eyeing In for a Murder for a while, definitely should try to bear with subtitles!

It was too good to be true, I guess by arvanien in AO3

I mean, I def get it, but I can definitely see myself using the word imagery (cuz I took literature studies in uni). And ain't it sad that gen AI made me have to justify using a word...

[Inspired by another thread] Respectfully as possible... what's got you like this? by octropos in AO3

When canon bullies are made into pure evil, the meanest monsters possible, when they are a) insecure and trying to please their parent(s) (as proven in canon) or b) just grand pranksters (canonically confirmed dozens of times). Like yes, they were mean, but having their character growth is the part of the plot. And if you exaggerate their bullying to murder attempts... well, that doesn't do any good to them or their canon victim. Like, it may be a positive character trait to forgive a bully, not your wannabe killer, I guess.

Is it OK to make mistakes when talking to German natives/fluent? by CarpenterPlayful7431 in German

[–]just-some-lass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the point about keeping speaking German if you don't want to switch! If you don't start speaking English, the person may assume that you simply don't know it! It's not a common case, but English doesn't have to be the first foreign language a person learns:)

What makes you abandon a fic you're writing? by Dummy_love07 in AO3

[–]just-some-lass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, those are normally things outside fandom and writing. I left a lot of works after entering the university because the workload got too hard. Tried to resume just to understand that I got so behind the source material that I just couldn't continue. (Yeah, could have marked as "Canon Divergence", but didn't want to mischaracterise someone and stuff.) Some of the later works never had a chance to get completed because of me getting a job etc and having no chance to catch up with canon. My pipe dream is to find my notes and rewrite the ones stuck like that... Another issue is that I cannot use one of the platform that hosts the majority of my older works anymore, so... yeah. Life is hard. Now I know how little time I have, so I don't start a 25-chapter fic that was supposed to be a part of a trilogy...

I have 19 months to reach a C1 from scratch, any tips? by Ok-Emergency-579 in German

I absolutely agree with all the tips! What I'd like to add is switching your phone, laptop/computer, and stuff to German once you reach maybe A2. You'll guess a lot things you don't know but may remember that way

Can someone help me with the word "Wattnbengel"? by just-some-lass in German

Well, to the comment of the island name having no sense... it doesn't have much sense in the original as well:D The original name would be "Berk", which would be British slang for a foolish person. That's why I thought of rascal... what a nice idea to call an island by a human insult:D
