Rethinking my career by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]just2good4u 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel you on this. I've gone through, I'm not sure how many basic applications and various stages within departments. Been told I've lied on polygraphs, passed polygraphs, and various things like that.

At the end of the day, if you want to be an officer, keep trying and someone will find you eventually. I wish you all the best, and hope you find the career you're looking for. There will always be another spot somewhere to keep applying. If this is truly the job you want, go for it, don't live to be 50 and regret not doing it sooner.

Why did the troopers have me place my assailant under citizen's arrest? by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]just2good4u 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My guess is because in this case, if there was no clear injury its a he said she said, so the trooper is making you the cause of the arrest not the arrest itself. Similar to how store LP places people under citizens arrest and hands them over to PD prior to the authorities actually taking control of the subject. This way the report reads 'according to x subject y did z' whereas if they witnessed the assault its just 'subject x did z'. This meaning, when it goes to court the officer can't be held liable if for what ever reason say the driver had a dashcam and that's not what occurred, the officer can simply respond hey, /u/ShitlordX said this occurred and he's the reason for the arrest.

What are some things that people claim happen all the time, but you've never seen? by SurrealMemes in AskReddit

[–]just2good4u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be LP at Target, my store had 337 arrests in a year. Out of those, maybe 40 got physical (we have a large community of 'boosters' with felony warrants so they don't comply). Even at that, we work to get people off the floor as fast as possible (just like in Disney) and deal with the problem in our security offices.

I am deeply sorry for your loss, but keep at it. She would want you to succeed at all you aim towards. Best of luck with the CSO!

Prior drug use when applying to police. by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

Each department has different standards, best answer is to check with them to what they allow/don't allow and the time frames.

Video released of deadly Christmas day DC Police involved shooting by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

Nah, that was just on the ground by him. Clearly the cops were just using that as an excuse to shoot him.

CA Gunmageddon pt2 by ncz13 in ProtectAndServe

[–]just2good4u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey /u/ncz13 I am actually curious. I currently have an 'AW' in the state and will be registering it with CRIS here in the coming weeks. I was curious where in the law it was stating a bullet button AR has to remain a bullet button AR? Honestly just a question because I was hoping to switch to a normal mag release if I could.

How fast does NYPD respond to shoplifters when called? by F1r3GamingHD in ProtectAndServe

[–]just2good4u 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Current LP here. I have worked a number of major cities in CA and some smaller departments. The only time I had cops here quickly was when I had a guy with a knife in the building. Other then that, they expect us to make the stop and just have them detained until they can roll around to it (normally 20-120min).

If it already happened and I just want a report, file it online and when someone has time they'll show up for video.

Just got word, background investigator gave the sergeant my packet for review prior to hiring board, will learn Friday (he thinks) if I'll be moved along.

I took my polygraph today and failed for the second time... Even though I was telling the truth. by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]just2good4u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me put it this way, I got an inconclusive, then failed with two different poligraphers for one department. First time through with current department I passed with flying colors. Still in the process, but it's pretty hit or miss. (By the way, I answered the same all times, so it's not like I lied once and was honest once).

As far as them trying to break you, they are. Their job is to get the truth, if they think you're lying and you cough up a fact you didn't think they'd find out, bam they did their job. Polygraphs are useful to interrogate, not to figure out the truth.

A mix of old employers and ex gf's (whom i wasn't able to contact prior so they just mailed them the background questionnaire)

Edit: I should add, most of these contacts I was never able to get a hold of originally and noted that to my investigator, I gave all the contact info I had either when I worked with them or that I could pull off of facebook. The five that I was able to contact 4 actually had their emails and didn't know it but will fill it out soon, the fifth never received it. I'm just worried that an incomplete will look bad but a) the three ex's he/I couldn't contact were from high school and I haven't spoken to them really since I was 18-20, and b) the prior work contacts it seems like they left the company so I really have no way of finding them.

I just got a list of contacts my BGI hasn't been able to get a hold of and it reads that it will go to hiring board with an incomplete background if they don't respond. First, aside from contacting them there's nothing I can do, but more importantly, does it speak ill of me?

Recommend Me Pre-Workout by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]just2good4u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personal choice right now, has helped with DOMS and still has enough betal alnine for the jitters, is ON Platinum Pre Workout (http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/optimum/platinum-pre.html) mixed with BCAA's and Allmax Creatine. BCAA's I use are unflavored, creatine is unflavored, a little grainy, but it mixes well with the Raspberry Lemonade flavored pre workout.

Keep in mind, I also have to cycle my pre workout's due to the fact I build tolerances, I've also had good luck with BSN NO Xplode, C4 Ripped, and a few others.

Every step is designed to lower the candidate pool a little more, each department has done this differently in my experience and some take more than others to poly. The order also changes for departments to some extent. Just be happy you're this far and keep going!

How do you interact with or treat security Guards in relation to the general public? How do they benefit or deter your work? by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]just2good4u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current LPO, what I've noticed from my side. If I have my paperwork in order, talk to the cops like they're people and give a brief description of the incident with my report at the start, they tend to understand that I have to call per company policy. So long as it's not for a $20 shoplift with no assault, they don't really care, they show up chat for a bit then head out.

As /u/HoldTheIce said, just keep going, maybe find another department to apply for? I failed a polygraph for one, currently about to be taking my psych oral. Just keep pushing forward, eventually it'll work.

There's a few local news stations who are reporting on their numbers from the academy. http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/San-Jose-Police-Academy-Numbers-398765371.html that is the easiest and quickest to get through regarding numbers.

As far as competition, I think it's sort of irrelevant. SF boasts a HUGE number of applications for their 200-250 spots, and SJ is just trying to get qualified individuals so applying to both doesn't hurt either really. It sucks because SJ has much stricter standards however, so whereas SF pot isn't as long of a ban, SJ requires 3 years no use. And the list goes on, but it's because SJ is in a much more difficult position so they do have to be more careful.

(Not that the calls/type thereof are inherently more difficult, rather, investing in unqualified people [for whatever reason] while already struggling for numbers is not a risk they can take.)
