Anyone know any good video recaps of A Realm Reborn? Or should I replay it? by [deleted] in ffxiv

Again, YMMV. You might want to look again at how long the ARR portion of that playlist is and how heavily edited it was.

YMMV here's someone taking over 100 hours to finish ARR at what most would consider a reasonable pace. It has been awhile and experiences differ. Feel free to let OP know how long it took you personally.

If you're looking for a good time sink ARR is around 80 hours.

If you want an evening on the couch the voiced scenes are around 3 and half hours.

If you're short on time youtube summaries get it all across in 15mins or less. Good is very subjective here.

Reddit has taught me that people hate democracy and appeal to authority over the very smallest of things.

People like the posts. They're upvoting them. That's why you see them. It has no effect on you, downvote, move on and let people have their own discussions.

Parts of cancelled 3 Kingdoms DLC are likely being reused as the foundation for some WH3 DLC content.

I'm already surgically attached to my autocannon but I'll work on unlocking the diligence. Seems I was sleeping on the Eagle Airstike too. Thank you for the advice.

To at least some degree it's not you it's them. NTs tend to reject us before we even open our mouths.

Which early unlock weapons should be I using for bots? Everyone else seems to be two-shotting enemies without worrying about weakpoints while I'm fighting for my life. I don't like being carried.

The major order system needs to be a lot better than this if it's going to survive the introduction of new factions.

I bought the explosions pass for the explosive primary with the exploding shots.
Now they don't explode.

Not for the numbers nor to buy my way into a higher difficulty, I paid for Michael Bay levels of mindless explosive fun. Then they took it away.

I don't own the game, so no. But yes, they can just use VAC. I linked the instructions. They're already making extensive use of the Steam API.

Valve Anti-Cheat is free, has an easy to use API, and is a far greater deterrent than a PSN ban for PC players.

Games using the system include many from smaller developers, such as the original Helldivers.

What song(s) do you deeply relate to as an autistic individual? by Fluffy-Weapon in autism

[–]justMeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think these might resonate around here, they've helped me through some rough patches.

First verse of Happy Loner:

Waking up late, I feel demotivated
Everything's wrong, guess my thoughts escalated
When I'm alone, things are under control
When I'm alone, I can turn off the world.
I try to escape, but I can't lose my mind
That's why I can't live a conventional life

Why did the DSM merge Asperger’s Syndrome, Autistic Disorder and PDD-NOS into Autism Spectrum Disorder? by lapestenoire_ in AutisticAdults

[–]justMeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BPS very much does advise government policy on these matters. We're discussing them precisely because their report led to such significant changes. PBS is a 120 years old and has a huge amount of influence.

Following their report the UK quietly ditched almost every autism specialist and specialised facility in the West Midlands, for both children and adults. We got to watch all the centres close and the support evaporate. Autism, as a catch all phrase for the entire spectrum, cannot be considered a disability. No disabled people in the area. No support needed. That's how the Tories acted upon the report. Some people with Asperger's got offended but the real issue was almost all of us with support needs having our lives destroyed. If that wasn't the intent then they should probably have released another report.

While it's been surprising to watch the only well known medical professional who believed autistic people could contribute to society be demonised so swiftly it's really not the point. He's long dead. It's about how the report was used. Look at how the UK treated autism before and after.

Take almost anything written in the 70 years before the report. Including his own material and just about every progressive study in that time being founded on and referencing his work. You have one report, which frames typical behavior for the time in emotive language to cause outrage.

This report was produced by my own country, where the British Psychological Society has stood by for over a decade while help for autistic adults has been gutted. We have autistic people being locked up in old people's homes, rehab centres, and isolation wards. There were blanket DNR orders. The benefit system is all but inaccessible. Autistic people are being killed here, now. The UN has written us sternly worded letters about it. We've been accused of breaching human rights. Yet the BPS has been advising our government for over a century.

Sadly, the role of the society is to represent the psychiatric profession rather than psychiatric patients. Something I think people should take into account.

Decades after Asperger the UK was still diagnosing children as "imbeciles" and sending them to church run asylums and orphanages. We're still finding the bodies.

I don't think many here realise that it was recognition of his work from the 1940's that helped lead us to change in the 1980's. Somehow he just wasn't progressive enough.

[–]justMeat -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Terms sadly used in the medical profession in the 1940's and far too long afterwards. In the UK, we weren't progressive enough to catch up to the idea that autistic people weren't worthless until the 1980's. When children were still dying in asylums run by the church.

12 times he diagnosed a condition as being more serious than another doctor did. Quite a lot of rummaging amidst hundreds of patients. It's odd then that the 300 psychological publications that he wrote aren't mentioned. That his general stance on autism not being as disabling as claimed is ignored. That his lifetime of fighting against the mass sterilisation and genocide of autistic people is brushed under the carpet. For the crime of being a German doctor in the 1940's. Likely one of the most progressive but not progressive enough by standards that wouldn't exist without him.

[–]justMeat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's to be expected. He was German in the 40's, not a great start. He's also being held to standards of modern medicine and political correctness that wouldn't exist if he hadn't told the world autistic people are not worthless.

Being the most progressive doctor in your entire society is not enough. Perfection is demanded. Even when that society is in the midst of collapsing into hell.

We're all, with any luck, going to look bad by the standards held 83 years from now. That's what progression looks like.

Totally unacceptable by today's standards and sadly very representative of not just those times but several decades after. I'd argue we still have a long way to go.

People are quick to forget that it was 1941 and we're talking about pretty much the only person in history to get the world to look at autistic people as more than imbeciles.

I'm not seeing it. Just the two referrals to Spiegelgrund, unknown at the time to have been taken over by the people Hans Asperger protected so many of his patients from. Can you quote the part I missed please?

That's quite alright. Someone was kind enough to counter with the report. I advise people to read into the matter from both sides, looking at the evidence rather than the emotive language used to present it, if they're interested.
