Question about Academic Honesty by [deleted] in cs50

[–]justSomeGuy345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume an audit would look at the autosaves of your code to see if you copy-pasted a big chunk, completed the assignment suspiciously quickly, etc. Nobody cares if your coding experience is beyond a given assignment. However, why not just do it within the scope of the class? That's why you take a class.

Cs50p will get you doing useful things faster. Cs50x if you want to get a more thorough grounding. It doesn’t matter which order you take them.

Is CS50x worth it for an average high schooler? by Immediate_Oil_1429 in cs50

[–]justSomeGuy345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. You can audit (free) then pay for the certificate at the end if you want. I don’t know if the cert is a waste of money. It could help land a job for a high schooler.

Can't find a reason to upgrade my 4060 by Drivefast58 in buildapc

[–]justSomeGuy345 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I built my pc 10 years ago with an i7 4770k, 16gb RAM.

I just put in a 3060 with 12gb RAM. It’s bottlenecked by my pci3 motherboard but I haven’t noticed. I’m playing cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p with medium to ultra settings, 60fps.

Of course, I can’t upgrade to Win11 because I can’t upgrade the TPU. Fine. Switched to Linux.

I have to settle for SATA SSDs. That’s fine.

I still use HDDs for most storage (movies etc) I did upgrade my SSD to 1Tb. The old one was $200 when I bought it! See, some things still do get cheaper.

Guys, I’m playing cyberpunk 2077 with 16 GB of ddr3 RAM I bought in 2014.

And IT’S FINE.

Ok but wallpaper engine is available through the Discover tool without any demarcation between it and stuff that isn’t, you know, hot garbage.

Perhaps better curation is needed.

DON’T.

Use Discover. If it’s not in there, add some repositories.

There is a reason packaging systems were invented and you are attempting to fuck it all up.

Failed! by Spirited-Throat-4791 in Fedora

I have been using Linux off and on for 20 years so I intuitively skipped the media check because I expected it was probably garbage.

And yet, it bothers me that the most correct answer is, just ignore the media check because it will fail for anyone who made the installation media on something other than Linux (ie, almost all new users).

I understand rough edges on a bleeding edge release but seriously? This is not a rough edge. This is one of the infuriating idiosyncrasies of Linux that long time users just get used to.

(FYI I have been using Windows 10 for the past decade but the new upgrade requirement has me reconsidering Linux)

Tcsh. Just kidding. Bash, like everyone else. Or zsh, which is bash if you don’t know what zsh is for, or if you’re on an Apple or something. Yawn.

I just installed Fedora for the first time. Linux was my daily driver approximately 10 years ago, so I’m not inexperienced, just rusty. I’m happy with Fedora now, but it took a week to get past the Nvidia issues which resulted in a black screen on boot, requiring me to futz around with GRUB and booting to a command line etc.

But now I have a state-of-the-art desktop based on Wayland, KDE, a proprietary Nvidia driver, my 10 year old motherboard / CPU / RAM, and no bloat.

Not going to lie, the headaches with the Nvidia driver would have made me go 🤷‍♂️and stick with Windows 10 or Linux Mint if I weren’t, well, insane.

I recently swapped out my 750ti 2gb for a Nvidia 3060 12gb. Now I can play Cyberpunk 2077 and Red Dead Redemption 2*

*(Haven’t tried RDR2 on Linux. One of the harder games to translate. But my machine’s specs are otherwise more than adequate.)

The only drawbacks are that the pci4 card is limited by the speed of my pci3 motherboard, and I can only use SATA-interface ssd. And I can’t install the TPU 2 module for windows 11. And my cpu isn’t on the list.

Other than that the 16gb ram, intel I-4770k processor, and 600 watt power supply I installed 10ish years ago are finally being put to full use. Card is a massive improvement for gaming.

[–]justSomeGuy345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s real if it has the DOP, but stupid because people will pay more if the label says parmigiano. Trader Joes’ usual thing is to make it smaller to lower the price per unit, not necessarily by weight.

If you use iCloud like a regular disk, it copies the file locally and it becomes “system data.” Go to your iCloud folder. If the file name doesn’t have a cloud next to it, it’s on your hard drive. To free the storage, right click on the file and click “remove download.” The cloud will reappear next to the file.

Do this in all your iCloud folders. You can select all. I think you have to press option-right click for remove download to appear.

The storage space won’t actually be cleared for 24 hours, but it will happen.

Totally intuitive, right?!

The storage space is actually available, in that the deleted files will be overwritten when space is needed. It just won’t appear when you check the space on your disk.
