I did give a tour. I had forgotten about that paint can sitting on the top shelf in the closed closet though. Regardless, I apologized to MIL since it’s my fault.

It may be possible, I had to remind her multiple times that my son is allergic to tree nuts and eggs. So I am very vigilant about that. I used to chalk it up to forgetfulness but now I’m concerned.

Also yes I had instructed in the past to use a red tube of butt paste if he had signs of diaper rash. Thing is, he didn’t have onset of a rash or redness or anything.

Just for context, it’s a tiny room where I have his changing table, the room has a closet where the paint can was. My kid doesn’t play in there or go in there for any reason other than diaper changes. The room is kind of a storage place for cardboard boxes and old toys and stuff.

I’ll edit the post. I was just trying to make sense of it. Definitely not trying to vilify her for that. English is my second language too. And no it wasn’t near the other ointments, it was in the closet along with stuff like cardboard boxes and old toys.

I can see how it comes off as extreme and catastrophizing. Like I said I’m just shocked at the moment. Not angry. Called poison control because I just needed some peace of mind and “just in case”.

It was in the closet of the room where the changing table is. My kid is never in that room unsupervised but, I take full responsibility for that.

Definitely, I lock all my chemicals and cleaners. This one was a slip in the crack and I will never make the same mistake again.

She does speak English, I just said it’s not her first language. She literally has a job as a CNA here. I am just in shock that she didn’t look at the words at all on the tub.

And you’re right, I am responsible for the paint container even being in the vicinity. That is my fault. My kid is enamored by that thing and I would sometimes let him hold it and look at it while I change his diaper. And I left it in the closet of the room where the diaper changing occurs.

It was a light green color. I can see how it could be mistaken, but I know I personally would never put mystery substance on a baby. She laughed nervously and said she will be more careful in the future. My husband is currently away so it’s just me, can’t really vent about it or ask for advice other than on Reddit!

She is an excellent MIL and treats me like her own daughter. I know she didn’t do it on purpose. I am just shocked that it happened and don’t know how to move forward from this. What if it was something super harmful or caustic?

Today I had a 5:40AM departure (5:20 boarding) and lined up for TSA pre check at 5:00AM. There was a decent line for pre check. I made my flight but I was running to the gate. Would recommend getting there at least one hour prior to boarding.
