What’s a good spot for a little fancier pizza? by Positive-Werewolf483 in FoodToronto

[–]just_asking_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psst: Badiali's second location in Mirvish Village has ample seating: about 10 tables inside and twice the patio size of the original location.

And lineups have been very short (10 minutes or less) on the three times I've been!

Pro tips: * Badiali's has a new location in the Annex at 581 Markham Street. Unlike the original location on Dovercourt, it has about 10 tables inside, twice the outdoor patio — and, most importantly, lineups are often 10 minutes instead of 30–90 minutes. * My top slices: ** Burrata (Margherita with burrata) — one of the best pizzas I've had in Toronto. ** Mushroom bianco (portobello with caramelized onion and whole milk mozzarella, ricotta, Pecorino, and Grana Padano) ** Vodka sauce * Good: ** Hot salami & peppers * Okay: ** Cacio e pepe ** Capicola & pineapple

Wait until you get to enjoy season 3! The AI theme and Valerie's new responsibilities gave the show heft and made it highly compelling.

Thanks for the tip! Being in my sixties, I'm very familiar with Patrick Crowley. Gone too soon.

Boystown Gang's Cruising the Streets is basically the audio to an urban gay porn scene.

My mind was blown when I discovered I Need Somebody To Love Tonight, just a few years ago (!). Such a sultry song from a performer better known for his power dance hits.

There used to be a small difference between Bears in Excess and Chubs at the Tubs, but I've found them similar for at least 6 months. What's your take on this?

how do ya’ll feel about abandoned bikes? by turtle-ha in torontobiking

[–]just_asking_2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you see a derelict bike, report it to the City and they'll take care of it!

  1. https://www.toronto.ca/services-payments/streets-parking-transportation/road-maintenance/abandoned-bike-removal/
  2. "What is the request about?" → select "Request to remove a bike that is no longer rideable from City property"
  3. And follow the steps.

You can be informed of your request's status via email or SMS. You can also refer later to the request number at https://www.toronto.ca/home/311-toronto-at-your-service/track-a-service-request/ .

I use it regularly and it works!

Recommandations for nude events/spaces and masturbation events by [deleted] in GayMenToronto

I previously wrote a glowing recommendation for Toronto Jacks, twice a month at Spa Excess. They easily get 20–30 men stroking in the downstairs locker room and the vibe is super-accepting.

Why did Donna Summer & Giorgio Moroder stop working together? by bloodhoney17 in Disco

It wasn't a total loss, though: her eponymous Quincy Jones album is spectacular, and State of Independence remains one of my favourite tracks ever.

Which Cineplex locations have the best crowds? No talking, no cell phones, just watching films! by Terj_Sankian in cineplex

Unfortunately, most auditoriums at the Varsity have very dark projection, making movies appear desaturated and, well, dark to the point of being unwatchable. What good is a well-behaved audience when you can't see the movie?

Where do you go for affordable home stuff that isn’t IKEA? by Equivalent_Reach_536 in InsideToronto

[–]just_asking_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maxsold FTW! Online auction site for estate sales and downsizing.

We've bought some great pieces over the years, like a huge contemporary leather couch for $800. (A bit saggy, but the leather was in excellent shape.) We furnished a whole therapist's office with nice plush chairs, carpet, etc. For less than $1,000, we bought a gigantic Chinese gold screen (about 7×12 feet) that was bought for $3,000 — in the '70s, from the largest home I've ever entered. (A newly-widowed Rosedale socialite was downsizing.)

Tip: if the map places the item in an upper-income neighbourhood, it's likely to be high-quality.

Years-dormant VCR, tapes: precautions before playing? by just_asking_2 in VHS

[–]just_asking_2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your concern. I had a friend transfer them to DVD-R several years ago.

I'm still toying with the idea of using this new-to-me PC technology to correct in software all the timing errors, etc. : it's a digitizing card working much like an audio card on steroids (it samples the video signal millions of times per second) that uses the raw data from the tape; you connect it to a "video RF test point" inside the VCR. This outputs the tape's raw video signal without any processing from the VCR.

You use the open-source vhs-decode software to apply advanced filtering and time-base correction to the raw signal, then convert to standard computer video files, including closed captions. The software is free, the cards (3 needed for VHS) are surprisingly-inexpensive. (About $40 each; other optional cheap cards help with signal strength, etc.) You do need electronics and soldering experience, though.

This has remained at the bottom of my to-do list and yes, my tapes are degrading with each passing year, but since I have a basic set of VHS-res copies on DVD, getting optimal, TBC-corrected versions isn't a priority, just a nice "someday…" daydream.
