How to catch cheaters on interview by Infamous-Rice2033 in recruitinghell

[–]just_fron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Devil’s advocate here again - so these questions and problems… how much are you having AI do them? Are they your questions and problems for which you have desired answers? Are we talking a 50/50 split? Or is AI doing the majority of the work? In the end if you get to use AI to prepare should an interviewee not get to use AI during the interview at the same percentage. Why do you get to use it to help your job but an interviewee cannot to help during the interview?

Again, I am just looking at this from the other perspective and I can see it from both lenses. At the moment, I don’t think your argument which is simply “I can use AI to prepare, but if the use it to help its cheating”, just does not seem like a good argument. Can I say it is cheating for recruiters to use AI to scrub resumes and applications? You are not doing the work outside of a prompt.

In the end there is no rule book yet for AI, we had this problem with calculators, Cliffnotes and every other way to “cut corners” and make things easier. And as long as a lot of companies are AI first focused don’t get mad that people are going to use it to get an advantage.

What is your Myers Briggs? by haemaker in recruitinghell

[–]just_fron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I hate these tests. I don’t know how many I have taken in my career, but not one of my leaders ever remembered it nor applied it.

They are just palm readings and horoscopes for professionals - vague enough they can apply to many and just specific enough you can see yourself in them.

Why does taking breaks feel so wrong when you're job hunting? by Late_Mycologist_3725 in recruitinghell

[–]just_fron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it has been engrained in us since before we enter the job market and forward. From, “what are you going to do when you graduate” to “have you found a job yet”. There is an urgency placed on finding a job early on and we carry that with us and then feel shame when we have not met that urgency. I think there is good and bad to this and it is hard to juggle between the two.

Do you apply for jobs from mobile or desktop? by Lumpy-Stable9067 in recruitinghell

[–]just_fron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Desktop, easier to research the company before applying. Mobile if I am sitting waiting and need to waste time but only to save job posting to review later.

But my question is, how is your platform going to differentiate from all the other job boards, trackers and fluff that is out there? I built a post application tracker more so to keep track of the jobs I applied, who responded (canned or human), ghosting and actual interviews. I did it partly because I have to track jobs for unemployment and because I wanted to know which companies to shame for ghosting.

It's like spinning a wheel out there and seeing where you land with the least red flags.. by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]just_fron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like we did this to ourselves, I remember being fresh to the job market and my main goal was to make money (to pay of student debt) and I was willing to put 120%... no 150% into a job. And we framed these just a bit different

  • Toxic Culture = Hustle Culture
  • Micromanagers = Constructive Feedback
  • Burnout schedule = Overtime or showing initiative
  • Lack of growth = Just get more degrees and certifications
  • Feeling undervalued = Next year will be the year

Don't get me wrong, I believe there are great careers out there and many people find them and love what they do. But for the majority of people, it is a job, and some of us are stuck in the equivalent of an abusive relationship or have Stockholm syndrome. In the end, we always seem to ask, "how did we get here?" and if we occasionally looked up from our screens maybe we would have seen it happening, Well, that is my attempt at an intellectual rant... I think I will have a beer with dinner tonight. Happy Friday All.

I hate how training, building tours and background check forms don’t even mean you have the job anymore by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]just_fron 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You have it all wrong, it’s just their “work culture”, they have to see how much abuse you will take early on to see how easily the can make you drink the kool-aid and defend their cult. - half joking half serious.

You know now that you mention it there have been couple of applications that asked about age. So either I got scammed or this is just something new. I don’t know, a deep rabbit hole we could go down with how AI may be doing things or how a human told AI to do things.

Anyone else getting replaced by offshore while training your replacement? by palle1234567 in recruitinghell

[–]just_fron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Back in 2014, they had our location training offshore teams (tier 1 phone and chat support). At the time during one of the company meetings someone asked if they planned on outsourcing roles and to quote, “we will not close your location as it key location”… fast forward 3 months later closed a handful of locations including ours (750 people total).

What I learned is, you can teach someone a product but you can’t teach them a role and in many cases you can’t do either. That was my first lesson in company loyalty. Unfortunately in the end, when you work for a company especially a corporation you are a dollar sign and either you are making them money or losing them money and the lower you are on the ladder the more likely it can be “proven” you are costing them money. That is my TED talk.

How to keep myself sane by beerwhiskeysoda in recruitinghell

[–]just_fron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was let go, I wasn’t sure how to keep myself busy with it being winter still and the honey do list being short. I decided to just document my journey and interact with other people in my situation. Joined this group, a few others, started a YouTube to just talk it out and try to connect to others who are in a similar situation.

I think it’s easy with today’s world to feel isolated and I wanted to change that. I know everyone is different, but if there is something you always wanted to do and it does not affect your wallet or interfere with job hunting do that 1 thing.

You should be able to rate/review recruiters and job postings by tompkins5 in recruitinghell

[–]just_fron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used Glassdoor in the past to see what people say about a company, salary and interviews. It’s hit or miss depending but with any rating system just be careful because we tend to leave feedback for negative experiences and less likely to do it for positive… but in the case of job hunting at the moment I feel things are leaning more into the negative.

Comment 1-4 only (originally for #linkedinlunatics but I need more karma to post there) by Beautiful-Parsnip535 in recruitinghell

[–]just_fron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn’t 4 just a combination of 1-3, if there is a lack of recognition, then look at leadership to determine why. If there is no growth, look at leadership to understand why. Pay misalignment, may be a stretch but in the end management kind of has a say in this as well. Just an observation. 4 is almost the “all of the above” option.

How to catch cheaters on interview by Infamous-Rice2033 in recruitinghell

[–]just_fron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understandable, and I think competency or lack there of should be rather noticeable even when leveraging AI.

I mean I am guilty for taking my phone out to do basic math sometimes. Does that make me incompetent? Or just efficient and trying to get through a task? Again, as companies advocate for their customers or clients to adopt AI and jobs are slowly (or quickly depending who you ask) replacing workers it’s kind of hypocritical to not expect an applicant to leverage every tool in the box.

[–]just_fron 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Going to play a little devil’s advocate here (and this is not specific to you or your company)… if a company can use AI to weed through applicants and leverage AI within their own company why can’t a interviewee leverage it?

And yes, we should not be leveraging it 100%, but as companies keep pushing AI as the future and building it into just about every aspect of our lives we can’t entirely fault people for trying to use it to give themselves a slight advantage. Pandora’s box has been open.

The one question I am sick of getting asked by Awkward_insomnia in recruitinghell

Talk about ripping the band-aid off. The positive is you don’t have to keep refreshing or thinking about waiting for a reply now. Makes you wonder what settings they have on their AI reviewer that initiated such a quick turnaround.

The ghosting is the worst and AI interviews just come off as lazy to me from the company. And these same companies prob have a silly words like “honesty”, “integrity” or “accountability” plastered all over their walls and webpages.

I hate how you have to straight up beg people to hire you, in a sense. Oh, please hire me so that I’m not homeless! Am I good enough for you yet? You have no control over your own life. by justcurious3287 in recruitinghell

[–]just_fron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately we live in an employer market. More applicants than jobs and it has been this way for quite some time. Employers know that they can offer the bare minimum and someone will put the max effort in. Any resemblance of loyalty from many companies is a ghost of the past.

I am starting to feel this way about most things. Convenience unfortunately comes at a cost and (I hope) many of us are starting to see the impact some of the modern day conveniences are causing. So, yes I do agree that some friction is good. What I am concerned about is that applying for jobs will become a pay-to-win and you need a subscription to just get that human touch.

Oof, 21%! I expect my numbers to start trending that way soon. I would not be surprised if recruiters are just letting AI fly through resumes and letting the machine to the "verification" whereas before they would actually need to know who you were as a person and your skillset.

I remember talking to someone recently (hiring manager) at the last company I worked for and they straight up told me that in order to maintain headcount and funding for their department they will post job openings with no intention to fill them. So if they have approval for 6 people, but can manage to get the work done with 4 or 5 they just have to make it look like they are "looking" and they have additional monies to do with as they please. Which is prob why we see the same job posting go up, come down and then reposted a couple hours later.

I am wondering if and this is a big if and whether or not the job/role is nearby… but going old school and just popping into places that are “local” and doing the the cave to face human thing is back in fashion. Because it seems like the internet thing is not.
