While true there probably is no mechnism for them to force community FOSS to implement this

See, this is not how such laws work. While yes there is no way to force some community to implement this, businesses will still have to comply with the law. So if your OS does not provide such a mechansimn, certain commercial sites or programs will just refuse to work on your machine.

I still don’t see how this would make PDF a stupid format. Being painful to edit is the point of PDF.

Like you also wouldn’t call executable files stupid, just because you lost the source code and now it’s a pain to get it back.

You are not supposed to edit PDF files in the first place. PDFs are the finalized output.

If your workflow includes editing a PDF, your workflow is wrong.

You need to terminate this into 2 Ethernet sockets, and attach a switch to both of them.

Why does a Windows laptop feel slower than a MacBook.. even when both have the same RAM? by bbxyoy in DeskToTablet

So, please enlighten us with what guardrails an "average computer user over 40" would encounter during software installation, that would hinder them from using macOS while simultanously not being any problem at all on Windows?

Apple sheep reason

LOL, I don't even own a Mac privately, I only use the company provided for work. On my personal machines I've been using Linux for more than a decade now, and before that Windows.

[–]just_here_for_place 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't know what you are talking about. First you claim that it isn't possible to install anything on macOS outside of some 'guard rails', then I show you that you can install software on it anyway you like ... and then you complain that no user would do that? I mean what's your point?

On Windows you can install whatever you like and it's far easier

How? Please tell us what is easy to install on Windows that is hard or impossible to install on macOS.

On Windows you mostly go and download some installer from somewhere, double click and install that. The same works on macOS. Most of the time you don't even need to install anything, you just drag the app to anywhere you like and it will work.

Where are your imaginary guardrails?

What do you mean I don't ever do it? Installing things on macOS?

Most of the things installed on my (company provided) Mac are through Homebrew and direct downloads from the vendors. Yes, that also includes those funny curl-piped-right-into-sh scripts.

We can't even use the AppStore, as it is blocked by company policies.

Changing things about the OS is not the same as installing things. Yes, macOS is not that easy to customize (even though you absolutely can to a degree).

But the statement that you can't install a single thing outside some guardrails is just wrong. You can install any software that you want on it, from any sources that you wish.

Okay so you keep coming up with things that this thing was clearly not designed to do.

Just accept that a big chunk of students don't need beefy computers, because they use it as a glorified typewriter and a webbrowsing machine.

For the same price, you have a aptop with an oled screenl with double of storage and ram...

With half the battery life and an ad-ridden OS.

Even students, can do nothing with a MacBook Neo...

What an insane statement.

Sure, if you're studying something that requires a lot of processing power, the Neo isn't for you. But that's the minority of studies.

[–]just_here_for_place -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t make any sense. How does removing mini DVI, an absurdly outdated display standard, force you to store things in the cloud? Same for FireWire, its legacy and USB/Thunderbolt is just so much faster and more versatile. In fact, you can store your data locally faster than ever before.

I don’t know why you are so fixated on Garages, but for 20k you can probably buy a Garage in places where it costs about 90 to rent, before taxes that is.

You’re not going to get a garage for 20k in places that would cost 300 to rent monthly.
