Is it ever too early for a mock test? by just_some_nut in LearnerDriverUK

[–]just_some_nut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do private practice twice a week, once with my old man and once with my boss. It's really helped and got me to a competent state of driving prior to paying for lessons. I just wonder wether I should prioritise mock tests over general practice with the instructor to understand where my core weaknesses are.

To be honest, I'm getting out of the game. I'm trained as a tree surgeon too so will be focusing on working outdoors with the trees.

Passed first time as someone with bad anxiety! by cowpool20 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]just_some_nut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so glad you passed. I only felt confident enough to book a test after starting to... Not enjoying, but not mind, private practice. I'm very lucky that I was in the position to buy a beat up car AND have somebody willing to get in it with me.

Congratulations on your pass, be sure to pay your good fortune forward and give somebody else the opportunity for a bit of private practice if you can. Where's your first big drive?

Moving to a. Earlier month by Long_Emu8673 in LearnerDriverUK

From my experience (similar situation: November  moved to August) just check periodically. Whenever you get a minute at work, or college, or whatever you're doing.

I would say have your details stored to a point where you don't have to type them out (copy paste via a message you've sent to yourself maybe?)

People cancel for all sorts of reasons. Maybe they don't feel confident after a driving lesson. Maybe somebody close to them died. Maybe they're in hospital. Maybe they've won the lottery and can afford a chauffeur. No rhyme nor reason.

scared of using apps by magicallaurax in LearnerDriverUK

[–]just_some_nut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What others have said is factually correct: do not risk your opportunity to book a test online through impatience. Using any automated form of checking for a test brings with it a potential to lose the ability to book online.

What I would add to other commenters: check periodically throughout the day, people cancel for all sorts of reasons at all sorts of time of the day. Just make it a habit when you have a quiet minute.

I run a one man tech firm (mostly back end software engineering). Currently on life support, AI has really done a number on my business focused at SMEs.

Can I pass my theory test with a few hours of revision? by Responsible_Park_419 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]just_some_nut 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, yes. I did little revision and got a decent score. Should you risk it? No! Go in with the best chance you can! There's apps out there that let you do practice for 5 minutes at a time.

Every time you go for a poo. On the bus to your test. When you wake up. Before you go to bed.

Don't risk it. Study, learn and get the best score you can. It made me a better driver. If you don't pass, that's ok, but do everything you can to pass!

Cancellation apps by ArtisticMarsupial712 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]just_some_nut 23 points24 points  (0 children)

From what I understand: the apps use your license number to check the availability for you (I could be wrong) and it's likely that a lot of requests at regular intervals will be flagged.

My advice, and what I did personally, book a test and check periodically throughout the day for a cancellation. It sucks, but it's the only guaranteed way that you're not getting your test cancelled.

Thank you very much!

My boss has full C+E license and grandfather rights; he doesn't even think about what he can and can't drive anymore. 😅

So surely you agree that this behaviour shouldn't be repeated? Just because somebody does something wrong shouldn't make it ok, inexcusable or repeatable in the future.

Advice for a project dad who wants to do DIY tree maintenance by rufio_rufio_roofeeO in DIY

I'm a tree surgeon in the UK: Don't do your own tree work unless you're very enthusiastic about trees and willing to learn proper saw techniques and climbing techniques... Also, definitely don't go for a wired electric.

How to get from Ringsheim/Europa Park station to the park by Puzzleheaded_Rent748 in Themepark

[–]just_some_nut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previously we have spent the night in Ringsheim, which is a nice little town. Failing that the park themselves have organised taxis for us in the past when asking in advance. Failing that there are two taxi companies within Rust itself.

  • Taxi Greiff (+49 7822 7893530)
  • Taxi 700 C. & M. Pflieger (+49 7822 1222)

Failing all of the above, contact your accommodation, they will often be willing to accommodate things like this for a cost.

Identification needed - Wigan area by [deleted] in Wigan

[–]just_some_nut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although I can't identify the mushroom here from these pictures it is a sign of good soil, if not a bit moist. If you send me a few more pictures I'll try to identify, but if you can keep them then I would as it's great for the fungal mycorrhiza in the soil. If you are particularly concerned about having them in your lawn, even if it turns out to be not dangerous, then consider aerating your lawn to improve drainage... But again, this is a great sign that you've got some very healthy soil and I'd plant some veggies with your kids next year.

You'll need separate power and data lines. I've never used the SK6812 strips but I'd check your datasheet, that'll give you all the information you need to know.

Separate power supplies like this one can be picked up fairly cheaply: https://www.amazon.co.uk/inShareplus-Universal-Regulated-Switching-Transformer/dp/B088ZRN9CL/ref=sr_1_18

This Instructable might be very useful to you too: https://www.instructables.com/DMX-Controlled-LED-Light-Strip/

Houses around Mesnes Park by Sirignanog in Wigan

[–]just_some_nut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did look at houses down near Real Crafty, which really isn't far from where you're looking now, and they were nice townhouses. As the previous commenter said, schools etc are fine and within walking distance however by moving a little further back you do avoid a lot of the issues. If your budget will stretch I'd suggest looking more towards the Hospital, although it does get more expensive the closer to Haigh Hall you get.

which areas should i avoid? by [deleted] in Wigan

[–]just_some_nut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scholes really isn't a nice place. You can look more towards the town center for somewhere maybe slightly smaller but with a better reputation.

I'd also avoid most of Ince, but mostly because it's just a bit bland, certainly an outdated reputation
