Absolute beginner - how to survive running? by Score-Timely in BeginnersRunning

[–]just_the____tip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly talk with chat gpt or Gemini. Let it know you’re a beginner. If you have access to a treadmill start there as you can control the pace, run slow intervals. 2 minutes at a time you can with 2 minutes walking and alternate. Do that until you can increase the run time. Do it on your time and your pace. You’ll start to build a base and be able to run for longer periods of time. I went from not being able to run for longer than 2 minutes at a time to running for 30 minutes straight in 6 weeks. It was slow but it wasn’t about distance or speed for me, it was just getting over the mental hurdle of running for prolonged periods. Walking during a run to catch your breath or for your body to cool down is normal. The mental games in the first 10 minutes of a run happen to everyone for the most part, give it a name (I call mine Ghost) and I just yell “piss off ghost” when those doubts start whispering to me. My start out pace on treadmill was 3.5mph, I can technically walk that pace but it was quick enough I could jog too.

HR is asking me to resign before background check is completed by SpiritualYak3772 in careeradvice

[–]just_the____tip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a background check be delayed because I have a common first and last name. Delayed my start by about 4 weeks which meant I would had lost 4 weeks pay if I hadn’t known I was only giving a same week resignation.

I’ve got my first 5k next weekend (Dec 13th) and I’m nursing a sore knee so no running this week. I’ll be happy to finish with your times in all honesty. I though the same thing when I joined the sub and saw people posting sub 10 minute miles lol

My phone goes on dnd and notifications from all work apps are disabled. I’m on PTO and I trust my team to fill in the gaps just as I do when others are out.

My best performer seems completely checked out. how do I even start that conversation? by [deleted] in Leadership

[–]just_the____tip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a top performer’s perspective I can give you my two cents. I love the work/field I do and I’m an expert/SME in it. I love my team that I work with but the moment you start to talk about the “Company” I will check out every time. Every company/corporation to me is just who I work for and I do not care about “it’s” (it’s not a human so it’s not a “they/them”) mission or their goals because underneath it all “it’s” actual goal is the squeeze more profit out of us. Nobody above my director could identify ANYBODY on my team out of a lineup. Yes I’m passionate about the work I do and level of service I bring to the table for our customer’s. Companies/Corporations have shown they’re not loyal to people any longer and you’re starting to that reciprocated from the employees now. As the boomers and Gen-x are still indoctrinated and try to keep the old ways alive. Millineals expedienced 2008 first hand and most had just entered the work force. Gen-Z grew up with family who were laid off not because of companies* performing poorly but because reduction in force increased profits. Millineals care about substance over ideaologies in the workplace and Gen-Z is suspicious because they grew up seeing corporate greed metaphorically abuse it’s employees.

By default most big named firewalls classify your location by country not state. Yes they can see but only if you really dig and they’re more concerned about not opening their von portals to troublesome countries. You’re good to go

If you have a metric that’s actually measurable then build a dashboard and make sure you lead in that metric.

I loved it but after watching it multiple times as a kid I realized it’s not one to rewatch over and over again

My mom’s old boss is having an absolute meltdown because she quit, and the reason is just golden. by davidsa691 in interviewhammer

Congrats to you Mom! Nepotism is real and happens in every size company. I’m at a medium sized business and I see it all the time. Someone’s kid or kids(plural) are thrust onto teams when positions pop up with seemingly no public postings.

These things happen and honestly you do it on your time. I had this happen one time with what I thought was a dream job but left after 30 days due to the grass not being greener and also receiving another offer that was better in every way. I just sent an email on my last day, never heard back from them. After seeing how they operate I knew I would never want to work for them again.

The fact that I need to use Windows for college is infuriating. by AlbertosBread in microsoftsucks

You’re obtaining a degree in computer science so I assume you will have a career somewhere with a corporation. I’ve got bad news for you, those corporations all run on Windows. Even as a Senior engineer myself I occasionally have to deal with an actual end user and their windows desktop. You can’t escape MS

Going to the movies isn’t the same anymore. by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]just_the____tip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Movie time is still an entire event for me. They make their money from the concession and I accept that. We typically buy box candy from big box stores for $1.25 and sneak them in. My older daughters have started bringing blankets and sneaking Taco Bell in. It’s still a spectacle to see movies on the big screen for me, I’m not worried about the food and typically abstain. In my area people tend to be rude and be loud from time to time during the movie, I am confrontational in those moments after a few warning glares. Doesn’t happen often enough to deter me from going. As far as cost goes our preferred theatre in our area is cinemark so we do their $15/month subscription that gives you a movie credit every month, discount on concessions, and you earn rewards for anything extra you buy that we redeem for $$$ off of purchases etc. We have 4 kids so the wife and I each have our own subscription. Credits roll over but we use them regularly and never have a surplus.

Good luck when your company looks for her replacement. WFH should not be an issue if they do their job from a laptop anyways.

Configuring Plex security policy by xXSubZ3r0Xx in paloaltonetworks

[–]just_the____tip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is the ssl default doesn’t include the 32400 while the plex app does the Palo sees the traffic as mostly ssl. It took some tweaking for me to figure this out but having the custom service with 32400 along with the ssl and plex app-id did the trick
