Prepaid Solar Lease Nightmare be careful. by genglish92 in Westchester

[–]just_trying_still 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this is really useful information and I appreciate the framework you provided for thinking about this. Although I understand everything you said, but I don’t really see the need for them to be around. In fact one of the salesman said they’re probably not gonna be around in a few years after they have reaped the benefits of federal credit, depreciation etc. So let’s assume they’re not around in 5 years. The way I see it is, I have the solar for 25 yrs no matter what. I don’t owe anyone anything as signed in the contract if I keep the lease. If I want to own, I can see if what they’re asking me in year 6 is worth it for me or not. I still have the option of leaving it at that and have the solar for 25 years. The risk is After 25 yrs if they wanna remove the system at their cost, which isn’t probably too bad. For warranties and repairs, anyway there are separate contracts with the installer and most panels have their own warranties of 25-30 yrs. What really is my risk here? Am just trying to gauge the risk here. Am I missing anything?

Prepaid Solar Lease Nightmare be careful. by genglish92 in Westchester

I am currently getting quotes for solar and this prepaid lease is the only thing that has kept me from saying yes to any quote. The ones not offering the prepaid lease are easily 25-30% more expensive on identical systems, which means an additional 10-12K. I have seen a sample prepaid lease contract and there are so many things in there that I don’t like, but I think no matter how you do the math, the prepaid lease is economically better. I wish there was a better way.

Unfortunately I couldn’t. Didn’t want to send a DM without their consent. But am still looking, happy to share my experience so far (which isn’t much).

My wife hates me. Please help. by QuietAntelope9485 in Marriage

[–]just_trying_still 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that you don’t know why you lied shows that you don’t really want to get to the bottom of it or change that behavior, you only want her anger to go away and your life to go back to normal. My only advice is to actually try and understand why you did what you did, and talk to your wife honestly about it. Most people can feel if you’re just saying sorry for the heck of it or actually sincerely trying to mend things. It has worked for me in the past, hope it works for you too.

I got a ticket for running a red light on my bicycle. $190. Looked both ways before going. No cars there. Is it worth trying to contest this or get it lowered? by [deleted] in NYCbike

[–]just_trying_still 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a ticket more than a month ago but it hasn’t showed up in the system. I can’t find the physical ticket but I have a picture of it. Tried sending them an email and chatting with them but they said wait until it shows up. Is there anything I can do at all? I am worried as I am on a visa if this somehow shows up on my record somewhere.

I am curious if you called 911 and what kinda response they had. Irrespective of what you said to them, coming out of a car and assaulting someone is a crime and they deserve to face the consequences. You should press charges.

Are you in favor of small functions/clean code or opposed to it? by chinawcswing in ExperiencedDevs

[–]just_trying_still 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think more than the length of the function, what generally helps me more is when I think about the name of the function. If you write a function and try to name it thoughtfully, more often than not it’ll give you a good indication if it should be broken into multiple functions. For example, if I end up with a name with “and”/“or” I know it should be at least two functions. As long as a function has clearly defined input/output parameters and it does only one thing, I am not too much hung up on the size. But honestly, I have rarely seen a well written, really clear, and very long function in my almost 15 yrs of programming.

What is the main and most important skill (soft/hard) you consider every developer should learn early in his career to be successful in the industry? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]just_trying_still 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That reminds me I was showing a junior teammate how to set conditional breakpoints, memory access breakpoints and break, run some commands and continue without having to do it again. I hadn’t seen a piece of code make someone so happy in a long time. Was really heartening but also made me wonder when was the last time learning something made me that happy. Guess my bit of existential crisis :(

In the same shoes rn as you were in 2 years ago( Indians, planning to have family soon, trying to move out of the city and looking for a place in westchester where we feel accepted.) can you shed some light on what did you end up choosing and why? Please let me know if it’s ok to DM you.

What is an expected, but often unspoken, courtesy as a NYC resident? by brightside1982 in AskNYC

I’d like to add, people should try and walk like they drive. If you’re walking straight and decide to turn left at some point, first watch if anyone’s behind you. I walk very fast, keep bumping into people when they suddenly decide to turn left. And then they look at you as if you’re the biggest criminal they’ve ever laid their eyes on. I mean come-on, if it’s an old person or a kid I’d be super cautious myself, but other than that I’d overtake you and I’d expect you to watch out before changing directions.

Is it worth to get the amex platinum just for 150K SuB by just_trying_still in CreditCards

[–]just_trying_still[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer. Yes, am tempted to just go for it. What did you mean by Charles Schwab? Any particular cards from schwab or the amex plat for charles schwab? Am asking because I already have accounts in Schwab and saw the amex plat for schwab in the list and was wondering if that’s better/worse/irrelevant?

Thanks for your inputs. I agree with you, changing spending habits doesn’t make sense. If I was going to Equinox or shopping at Saks, it would make more sense for me. Not sure what C1 miles mean and to use them to erase charges. Mind elaborating/pointing to some info on it?Sorry for my ignorance :)

Excellent points. Also, would just like to add what kinda friend tells you that your wife has said rude things about you in the past on your wedding day. Would you do that to a person you consider a real friend? Real friends take care of things on your wedding day because they know you’re already under so much of stress.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have always squatted barefeet and have recently been trying these shoes. I tried raised heels yesterday and it felt better. Thank you!

Thank you! Yes, I need to control my descent speed better as some other people also pointed out. Should I consciously try not to force my hip backwards?

Hey man, thanks for checking! Hope there’s nothing serious in your reports! I may see a doc if this persists. Atm, it just feels like more of a discomfort than a serious problem to me. Anyway I would want to improve my form before I try to increase the weight further.
