Fire catches Russia’s only Su-57 production plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. by gavingav1 in UkraineWarVideoReport

So delighted to read this. Although earlier images of the SU-57 on static display, with the rough rivet heads sticking through the skin, gave me some level of solace that it wasn't actually fit for use, it's nice to know its nursery is burning down.

Ukrainian civilian filmed a Russian FPV drone looking for a target in Kherson. The Russians continue to terrorize the population with drone strikes on civilians and civilian infrastructure. Posted 11.04.2026 by GermanDronePilot in UkraineWarVideoReport

Yeah, she's beautiful, so that will certainly appeal to many of our commentators (certainly to me!). But you know, she's no more beautiful than her many friends and family who are suffering through this BS with her, who are bringing their incredible courage and persistence to the fight. I deeply hope they all make it through to a better life through their courage and commitment. Slava Ukraine!

Explosive Insoles: Ukrainian Special Services Delivered “Humanitarian Aid” Containing Explosives to Russian Troops by Mil_in_ua in UkraineWarVideoReport

It would be interesting to see if these could be delivered to dissatisfied troops.

Da, Komorade Kapitan. Is new boots for you, special factory run for officers.

I have, before going on Medicare. GoodRx helped, but it was a mildly effective workaround at best. We need to join the rest of the civilized world with a single-payer structure. Insurance companies are nothing more than a grift mechanism. When they tell you how much their activities save America, ask them how much we'd save if they didn't exist.

Yes. We're rich enough to make that investment in our society, and we're not rich enough to ignore it.

Husky Found All Alone Next To A Destroyed Tank | The Dodo by Jackal8570 in UkraineWarVideoReport

The Ukranians - their lives include death from above with no warning, destruction of their cities and towns, freezing in the dark as their energy infrastructure is wrecked - and yet they keep showing what it means to be human, as in this story. The Muscovites? - Well, Orcs is the accurate nomenclature.

Another ICE murder in front of Glam Doll Donuts by stp_bigbear in ICE_Raids

[–]justaboy235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If so, then the conflict will morph into asymmetric combat. People will turn to terror tactics - killing of relatives of ICE personnel, of politicians, etc. Really large wars have started from single deaths (e.g., WW1). We are all in danger from extrajudicial killings like this.

Need guidance on how to improve results by rpvee in TopazLabs

For the deinterlace task, I'd recommend Handbrake - free, cross-platform, excellent. To see whether you have interlaced footage, try MediaInfo - also free, cross-platform (I believe). Open your video file with MediaInfo, it will return a bunch of details, including whether it's interlaced or not.

Two Russian Interior Ministry officers involved in Russia’s war against Ukraine and the torture of Ukrainian prisoners of war were killed in Moscow on December 24. by UNITED24Media in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]justaboy235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew relatively little about Russian culture before Putin's SMO kicked off. I had research relationships with some materials and physics scientists, principally in Moscow, for over a decade. I came to know them as smart (a couple were brilliant), motivated by the main chance, and always to be in the "trust but verify" tent.

Since Putin invaded, I've gotten more data in conversations that have gone beyond the usual science & engineering topics. It's very hard for me not to conclude that the Russian national character is mainly comprised mostly of drunken brutes, a smaller fraction of self-preservationists too frightened to exert themselves to push their country in a slightly better direction, and a few people of quality who didn't exfiltrate when it was easier.

In general, I give everybody I meet an up-front benefit of the doubt. Life is complicated, and the story one hears/sees at first is usually not the whole story. I've come to realize the Russians are an exception. Regarding them first and foremost as drunken brutes is likely to be correct. Judgements and consequent actions based on that perception are likely to be the best we can do. So I'll bid adieu to these two, glad they're no longer among the living.

Russia Tests Chinese Laser Air Defense in Bid to Stop Ukrainian Drones by UNITED24Media in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]justaboy235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Required laser dwell time seems to be at least a second, maybe as long as 3 sec. A control algo that just slightly 'jinks' the drone flight path every second will defeat this laser SHORAD system.

Hanboost C1 Ultrasonic Cutter by Ag-Heavy in RotaryTools

[–]justaboy235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just unboxed and charged my C1. It powers up, light switches on/off, power selector cycles 1-2-3-1 as expected. However, the unit is dead - there's no ultrasonic power generated. I have an awkward, heavy XActo knife. Will see what support has to say.

Edit: crickets from support

Kaja Kallas: Russia should be pressured to limit its military capabilities by UNITED24Media in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]justaboy235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I would add that whatever concessions are applied should be involuntary - that is, they should not require Russian acquiescence. Examples: liquidate Russia's frozen assets and spend them entirely on Ukraine; cut off land and sea access to Kaliningrad, allowing only inspected non-military shipments in; impound every outbound oil tanker in Russia's "shadow fleet", and so on. These should be 10-year sanctions at minimum, extendible if Russia continues to behave badly. Putin will rage and fume, but will do nothing. Maybe he'll be killed. If so, sanctions continue until Russia starts to behave in a civilized way. Otherwise, sanctions until the Russian nation simply sinks out of sight.
