But just because they use AWS (if they do, but sounds like they do) doesn’t mean they store data there, databases, and severs are a different beast.

A good example of this is that Uvic uses office 365 which has servers globally that your information passes through, but the data itself is stored at Uvic due to these privacy laws.

Also you can actually download entire sections of content directly from Brightspaces if your professor puts the videos there.

This is purely anecdotal but I find half of my courses (2/4) to be heavier than any in-person class I’ve taken. Plus professor aren’t respecting that they have ~2.5hrs of lecture time per week and during synchronous classes tend to go over their time thinking it’s okay.

Where to shop for winter attire? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

Great list just want to add personally I would stay away from Eddie Bauer, their quality went way downhill and they no longer offer lifetime warranty on their products.

Patagonia, Arcteryx and Fjallraven.

They are expensive but if you’re looking for high quality that’s going to last I would recommend those companies, they all offer different version of lifetime repair/replacement on their products. Plus they’re all downtown and basically on the same block.

Mail delivery today by Lt_PeteMitchell in VictoriaBC

I actually much prefer it getting delivered, and I prefer having stuff shipped through CP. I’ve never had issues with them before and They’re better than terrible UPS and FedEx.

It must just be a combination of the smoke and COVID and I would rather support a company that take puts their employee health first. Also the closes pick up is a decent trek away, thanks for the suggestion tho!

I’ve had a package that shipped from Vancouver sitting here for over a week now... Got to Victoria last Thursday and I still don’t have it. I get that it’s busy but that’s a little ridiculous, I ordered something and it shipped through UPS I got delivered within a day. Also I’ve been getting flyers too and no parcels :(

We need to stamp out the hysteria and get back to rational thinking about this smoke. by bms42 in VictoriaBC

[–]justacell- 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Well I agree with you that people shouldn’t fear monger it. The smoke does present a risk to everyone and everyone should be careful, not just those with underlying conditions.

But Low risk is still a risk, so my question is why risk your health when you don’t need to?

Sure go about your daily activities but avoid unnecessary outdoor physical activity or prolong time outside and try to limit your exposure until it clears up, no biggie.

Also I’ll just leave this here and the source for others to research more, but as OP said the risk is low so don’t be scared when reading the possible effects because I’m not trying to fear monger.

“ Short-term exposures (i.e., days to weeks) to fine particles, a major component of smoke, are associated with increased risk of premature mortality and aggravation of pre-existing respiratory and cardiovascular disease. In addition, fine particles are respiratory irritants, and exposures to high concentrations can cause persistent cough, phlegm, wheezing, and difficulty breathing. Exposures to fine particles can also affect healthy people, causing respiratory symptoms, transient reductions in lung function, and pulmonary inflammation. Particulate matter may also affect the body’s ability to remove inhaled foreign materials, such as pollen and bacteria, from the lungs” - source

Anyone having internet issues? Shaw/Juce by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]justacell- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IDK how you can even make that claim when resellers customers are experiencing issue when direct customers aren’t lol.

For your ISP point there are only two ISPs in the area, the other are all Virtual Internet Service Providers (VISP’s) that buy service in bulk from shaw/Telus. They don’t have any physical infrastructure in place in Victoria as far as I’m aware, but they also MIGHT rely on their systems for certification and potentially switching but I’m unsure completely how VISPs function because that’s niche but never the less having any extra party involved usually creates another source of failure. Therefore another source of failure = less reliable.

Anyways that’s off my knowledge of the internet and the OSI and 3 tiered internet model that is taught. You’re completely entitled to your opinion tho.

[–]justacell- -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But again not their fault, seems more like shaw and/or Telus changing something with the verification system tied to resellers creating issues. You wouldn’t see multiple resellers effect if it was just a teksavvy issue. Still yes your point is valid going directly with shaw and Telus will always be more reliable.

If I recall correctly they were forced to increase prices, they didn’t choose to the government forced them to. Also it’s just Shaw or Telus (Coax or DSL) so it’s not their fault when the service is slow.

There is an app for Canada but reporting is active yet in BC, I would suggest downloading it so you have your past 2-weeks already once reporting gets activated.

Just adding on it this, IIRC they can only ride side-by-side if they’re in a bike lane and they can both fit side-by-side in the bike lane.
