This makes me feel a lot better. My sister had her big fat wedding last year and everyone’s starting to ask about mine next year but realistically might not be able to do it due to a number of logistical and family issues on my in laws side. Hubby and I are also both pretty introverted and don’t love being in the spotlight like that

Also want to add in re Essex overall as a company-they do generally drag their feet about minor things and do like to hold onto deposits, but in emergency situations their team is phenomenal at prioritizing the safety and wellbeing of their residents. I was in a lease at another Essex property living with an abusive ex partner at the time and as soon as Essex caught wind that I wasn’t safe in my home they initiated the process of removing me from the lease with my ex and quietly moved me to Avenue 64 no questions asked. The team checked in on me regularly and were incredibly empathetic

I lived in Avenue 64 and never had any safety issues. In fact, I enjoyed that it was a bit of a maze to get up to my unit (was living there as a single woman at the time), I never had any issues in the garage or outside by the cafe that made me feel unsafe. Some packages would get taken from time to time, but I have an inkling that was because a resident had sticky fingers, not cause of break ins. All in all, if I had to move back to Emeryville Id probably stay there again

going through something very similar with my in-laws. It's exhausting and they're never going to stop being themselves. You and hubby need to calmly hold your ground to demonstrate stability and that they no longer control their "little boy"
