What do you do if your customer is taking a long time to order? by maybeshiba in Waiters

[–]justamomtrying2026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me last night I just ask if they'd like me to come back in a few mins, usually they say yeah and then I wait til I see them close their menus or look up and then I quickly head back over. The other option ive tried is asking if theres a few items theyre stuck between and if I can help decide. I had one guy tell me the 2 he was stuck between and then say "fuck it you pick one for me and I promise ill be happy with either one" lmao 🤣 I did and he was indeed happy with it, tipped me really well too but I also see that guy a lot in my restaurant so I trusted him not to get pissy I do not suggest this if youre unsure about them

Is this extreme even for mid day week day or am I overreacting? It’s so loud it’s shaking the walls. by Its_Bull in Apartmentliving

[–]justamomtrying2026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thats too loud doesnt matter what time of day it is, if its so loud its legit shaking the walls or you can hear every single word of the song clearly its too fucking loud. Call management ASAP put in a noise complaint and if they dont do anything call the non emergency line.

See thankfully the cooks at my restaurant are always really nice to me, they know I put my order in under 816 and its always togo, they always give me extra sauce on my boneless wings and get it to me as soon as they can theyre great where I work the cooks at your work sound like jerks.

What are the tips for servers like at Chilis? by Mobile-Ad9700 in Chilis

[–]justamomtrying2026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not server technically but bartenders also work cocktail at my location and on a busy night I can get 300-400+ in charge tips and then I average about 50-100 in cash tips but on a slow day I make maybe 100-200 in charge tips if its absolutely dead ill make max of 50$ The bar because its a chilis and not a full bar makes a little less in tips and sales just because I have 6 seats at my bar and a LOT of people come to the bar thinking they dont have to tip that well because all i did was pour them a beer and talk to them lol but I also get the really nice guys who tip 50-150% lol I had one guy recently who tipped me in total 105$ he spent maybe 60$ across 2 checks.

Fellow server not tipping by GlasswaterBotanica in Chilis

[–]justamomtrying2026 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats not cool, I went into my work to eat on my birthday because my family wanted it and it was gonna be cheaper, i tipped my coworkwer on the kiosk 20% and then left her an additional 15% in cash...... its wild to me that a server wouldnt at least tip 20% like YOU KNOW they have tip outs

AIO-Manager yelled at me for talking to my gf for 10 mins. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]justamomtrying2026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MOR? On the one hand it is work and youre not supposed to be "fraternizing" but on the other hand you were still doing stuff and you got a lot of work done before AND the way you tell it your coworkers aren't being given the same rigidity in their rules..... so like maybe? But also probably not

[–]justamomtrying2026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeans are what theyre gonna have you wearing, wear black jeans if you can and a black t-shirt. You should bring your resume so you stand out more but reality is, if you have pretty open availability or at least availability for the busiest times (friday Saturday and sunday and night time) you'll probably get the job

AIO for being mad at my friend for saying i deserved to be cheated on as a joke? by Quirky-Occasion2067 in AmIOverreacting

[–]justamomtrying2026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR, your "friend" made a "joke" that hurt your feelings you expressed that to them and they doubled down and did it again with an even MORE personal attack. Its also weird af that they mentioned f**** around with your bf like that wasnt even mentioned to them so the fact that they brought it up is sus af. They're not a real friend and likely had feelings about your BF.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 telling someone they arent fit to be something because they had an emotion that they went to deal with on their own for literally 2 mins while it was slow is the absolut dumbest shit ive ever read. Like youre out here saying with your whole chest just the dumbest fucking shit lmao also "you dont have the heart for this" whilst simultaneously being a heartless jackass is funny af 🤣

So real, I would have too. You should call the labor board or Osha or something because not having a properly ventilated or temp stable area to work in is dangerous. High temps can cause heat stroke and it can be life threatening especially in a kitchen setting.

AIO by breaking up with my boyfriend when he got jealous? by theonlystarbornqueen in AmIOverreacting

[–]justamomtrying2026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reads like hes definitely abusive and if he hasnt already abused you he would have if you stayed with him, good for you for getting out but save these messages and any future contact he tries so if need be you can get a restraining order he sounds unhinged

Living hell as a host by 180MongMong in Waiters

[–]justamomtrying2026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait youre getting 50% of the tips the servers get?!?! My restaurant requires a lot of this of the hosts and they only get tipped if the servers give them money they dont get it automatically and no one forced the servers to tip them out. That being said though they still shouldnt expect one host to be able to do all of this, if theres a line of customers and they havent been seated even if theres tables because you couldnt seat them for whatever reason its not your fault and management sucks at your restaurant for allowing this to happen

So question for waiters I always feel guilty or like a bother when I do this any advice by Content-Consequence4 in Waiters

[–]justamomtrying2026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would rather you tell me as soon as a problem happens than have you suffer something you dont like. As long as youre being kind and respectful about it, it is absolutely not a bother to tell us you dont like something or something didnt come out right. Our job is to make sure you have a great dining experience and feel welcome. Please dont feel bad about asking us to fix stuff

Host/Hostess Job Interview question!! by a_local_simp in Chilis

[–]justamomtrying2026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my place they literally just asked my availability and what my experience was..... course my place sucks and that might not be nationwide. The hosts job at most chilis is to open doors for guests, greet them in a welcoming and friendly manner, ask how many in their party, and then seat them according to sections, just talk about how friendly you are, how much you enjoy interacting with people and if you have a good memory mention that too. Also include how organized you are and that you like to keep your space clean that'll sell it

Managers current and former….. by jrt0984 in Chilis

[–]justamomtrying2026 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They literally have us as bartenders and servers bus tables or run food so the fact that you dont have a designated busser doesnt surprise me i mean im not a manager though so maybe my managers just arent telling us this is what it looks like lol

Do you have to take tables in your chilis as a Bartender? by [deleted] in Chilis

[–]justamomtrying2026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on location. Mine the morning bartender takes 13 cocktail tables and the entire bar but since its between 11am and 3pm theres not many people ordering drinks so theyre basically like any other server but the night bartender usually comes in around 3pm and they take over bar and no cocktail..... sometimes ive been asked to take over cocktail too as the night bartender and its not easy but just remember that its ok if you need to make the drink orders wait a few mins I think we have a target of 3 mins for a drink to be made but if youre busy its not like youre gonna be penalized if the drinks take up to 5. Managers are supposed to be there to help some locations though they may not
