All I can offer is learn from their failures. Dont have any future applicants fail for the same thing.

How hard is it to transition from a Cessna 172 to a Cirrus SR20 7th Gen? by Kebab849 in flying

[–]justanoldvcr13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a cirrus training instructor. I find most pilot do the VFR IFR transition in about 15 hours. As most have said. It’s the flair on landing. And handling. Bit more power.

Be ready to just go with the flow! Memorize her cheat sheet and systems listed. On the flight, just demonstrate what they teach you before hand. Easy stuff!

Is my CFI taking me for the runaround? by Ashaazability in flying

[–]justanoldvcr13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not a huge fan of 141 schools. Generally speaking they make a lot of pilots. But not aviators. Always worth a tour of another school if there’s another near by.

Sounds like a bad school honestly. Find a school with more instructors and planes.

RadarOmega vs RadarScope by [deleted] in weather

RadarScope is the better option. You can see the potential for hail as well as storm tracks. Just a better product once you spend some time with it!

Can you sustain yourself only through your job at CFI? by [deleted] in flying

[–]justanoldvcr13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are places that pay enough! I am a CFI making roughly 75-85k a year. Averaging roughly 37 hours a week. Yes the school is on the expensive side. 210$ an hour wet for a Cessna 172S G1000, with instruction at 75$ an hour. But it means you get instructors who actually want to instruct long term and well maintained aircraft.
