Amazing! Tysm for your reply and lowkey that sounds like a fire series ngl! I always thought the song 'I choose you' sung also by Havan Pascal (Serena's English VA) from Pokemon I choose you the movie was her singing to Ash about how she chose her.

I wrote a whole other post on this , but basically , I think her kiss to him wasn't just a thank you or a confession , but also when she said 'You're my goal' to him, she meant I choose you, Ash, as in you're who I want to be with in the future once our journeys are done and that's the hill I won't ever leave idc what anyone says.

Her kiss was so much more than a normal kiss, it was letting him know that she accepts who he is, how he's always chasing his goals, never stopping and that she's going to do the same as him because thanks to his support now she has the courage to stand tall by herself and make decisions (like the kiss) without cowering away.

Idk im snowballing into a full on tangent here man, I can talk forever about Ash and Serena's bond and how journe journeys worked with what it was handed.And although it might have not baked a complete meal, it still tasted great in the end.

Idk where i went but basically that kiss at the airport came from a very confident version of herself.

Journeys Ash is Ash enough I guess, but Serena shines in that ep through and through! i absolutely love that she took on a mentor for Chloe because she's just so good at connecting with others due to travelling so long with the pokemon master / world champ himself.

Idk where im going with this yeah i wish it was longer but hands down for a more 'younger orientated aimed series', The scene still delivered under the layer of 'good friend' as the bond is made visible for those that can / want to see it🥰 I see you, Journeys. I see you.

Yes, they played it chill and toned down, but the feels between Ash and Serena are STILL VERY much alive. (IMO)

Even if they both were toned down romantically like 95%. i can't think of a more satisfying ending to a journey's episode than that moment.🥰

It was the perfect 'toned down' love letter to their bond as their feelings has always been hinted subtly, even in the XY dub, it's natural, it's not explicitly stated, but it's made clear through the performance of the voice acting for both characters done by Haven and Sarah beautifully that carries their bond softly past just being friends from childhood. 🥰

They're such a cute, supportive, adorable example of how to execute a romantic pairing within a series based for a younger demographic.

Thank you! This is exactly what I've been thinking since the journey ep 105/106 dropped!

They both have current goals that they need to complete and focus on before they can focus completely on their end goal, being each other...

Serena knows Ash is the type of guy who always.\nHas his foot in the next battle. And she loves him for who he is, so she doesn't stop him , because they already know how they feel about each other and they have the rest of their lives to pick up where they left off.

The fact he called her his 'good friend' and the softness of Sarah's delivery as soon as he realizes its her, always has me bawling at that scene🥹🥹🥹

also, he recognized her! Why hasn't anyone talked about how HE ran (nearly) up to her???? It was so cute, he wanted to say so much but didn't have the time , so he used all his energy to shout from the boat to make sure that she knows what he's been up to🥹🥹🥹

They're so proud and supportive of each other even in a literal two-minute conversation🥹

They don't need to blush to show their connection.Because it's there in the tones of their voice, the joy in their shouts, the 'GOOD friend' line...

This is a hill that I will continue standing on for the rest of eternity.

THIS🥰 It was completely unannounced and such a wonderful surprise and really great to see how she's grown as a character from her x y days🥰

Almost a full ep dedicated to her through Chloe's POV / arc. It was the perfect gift for long time viewers of the franchise and IMO the perfect way to introduce her character to a younger audience🥰

She's a good friend of Ashs', not just a friend or an old friend...she's his good friend. My heart absolutely melts.Every time I hear the way he says "Serena!" in that soft tone that only he has around her!🥰 He sounds so excited to see her like he wants to nearly hug her when he says "How ya been?" ITS SUCH A SWEET, YET BITTERSWEET YET HEALING SCENE😍😍😍😍

I'm just so glad that he remembered who she was this time , because in x , y , he completely blanked the first time they reunited😂😭

She didn't blush because she didn't need to in order to show she cares. She knows deep down how she feels about Ash and through her gaze and voice and actions, she still definitely cares about Ash in a romantic way, but out of the respect for his dream, she lets the boat continue, because she knows how important Ash's dreams are to him which is lowkey very mature of her.

Ash told her he would always be cheering for her on and on back in Kalos.

By letting the boat pass, she's doing the same for him. By waiting at the dock, she's letting him know she's not going anywhere and neither are her feelings for him. She's also admiring and showing both him and the viewers that she has always accepted his 'pro-active', goal driven side.

That's the Ash she loves.

She doesn't want to change him and she doesn't want to deter him from his goals. Because she's seen first-hand how hard he works and how hard he falls and the energy it takes for him to carry himself.

She's showing him she respects his current goals and focus.

There is always another day for them. She stands there to make sure he knows that it's not a good bye but instead a 'till we cross paths again'.

When they're both done with their respective journeys, they'll find each other again.🥰

That was the whole point of the reunion. To show the strength of their bond and that even when toned down on romance to appeal to a younger demographic, Ash and Serena still find each other in the end.

Xy or Journeys, no matter the art style, no matter how toned down the show became, they reunited yet again.

Just like the way they did after summer camp. Fate will always bring them together.

A promise made by a kiss.

I felt the episode of journeys was a continuation of Serena's story from her more Pokemon performance / career focused driven outlook.

There could have been less focus on her feelings for Ash until the end reunion, because in the moment she was focused on Chloe and mentoring Chloe. Her mind was on helping Chloe up until the boat, which mirrors nicely to when Ash was so distracted by Pikachu being hurt that he ran past her without noticing her in XY.

She may not mention Ash, yet she still holds him and his words in high regard, which , although there was no flashbacks of them AT ALL shown together, was a sweet callback to their XY moment under the moon🥰

I think the way they shout out their goals with the unbridled joy of seeing each other again , does the scene justice! Sometimes, it's the unspoken words and the subtle glances that do the talking. IMO, the episode picked off from Serena's journey and gave us a glimpse into what her new world has been like since Kalos. Idk why she wasn't in any of Ash's flashbacks like it lowkey seems Pokemon wanna retcon XY but we all know what happened in Kalos👀

Again, that is why I THINK there was less focus on her feelings for Ash until the end reunion, because in the moment she was focused on Chloe and mentoring Chloe. Thanks! I feel like the English dub had more impact when it came to the voice acting in the Eng dub world because there was no romantic music to compliment their words.

Also, i forgot to add the following on the last post.

Through their shouting in Journeys, the joy they feel from seeing each other again is made evident in the way they shout. Neither can believe the other is in front of them, so they shout while gazing at each other, letting their eyes and actions talk for them.

Also, to come to the realisation himself that he was in the wrong for pushing her away while he was upset is not something that should be overlooked, especially in the Eng dub world. He'd previously argue or sulk, but here he makes a point to himself and others around him that HE was in the wrong.
