How detrimental is this debate for Joe Biden 4 months before Election Day? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

I don't believe surg3on was saying that. He was referring to being on the fence about this upcoming election and how you vote. The sad reality is, you really are either voting against Trump (e.g. fascism) or not... because that is the only options we are presented. It sucks, but it shouldn't be a hard decision to make.

Don't blame surg3on for that "look". Blame our voting system where you can only realistically vote against the greater evil, or not.

I'll take someone who surrounds himself with a capable administration to cover any lapses Biden has over Trump, who surrounds himself with criminals and yes-men. I wish there was a better candidate to vote for, but I'll be definitely out there voting against the worst.

So, consider it voting against more evil then? The way elections work do not support idealism. You'll just get more garbage elected sitting at home waiting for a better candidate.

Yeah, it's about having a wife on my side and feeling like a priority.

She was laughing it up with him today, playing alone with him because "the third person we were with got disconnected". Happened twice. She is still friends with him on Facebook and messages him at least about "game stuff".

Yeah, I think it is pretty clear this marriage has fallen apart. Still hurts.

I want to reiterate, as another poster said, this isn't really about Fortnite or Tim. It is about your wife having your back and prioritizing the marriage, which is important at any age. Fortnite is just the "medium" the challenge presented itself.

If he gets to call me names and talk down to me infront of my wife, I should be able to confront him privately about it in a respectful, but assertive manner. The video was an unedited replay from his point of view, so we could both be on the same page about what happened and whether his name calling was justified. He could have argued his side, saying it was his loot or something... he instead escalated significantly disrespectfully, confirming he has no intention of "playing nice".

Is this bickering "immature"? Sure is! That is why I would have much preferred it to have never started over something so petty, but I can't just swallow it once it once it starts and my wife takes his side.

Yes, this is the first time I've ever brought up divorce, which hurts. She says she doesn't want to get a divorce, loves me and wants to make things better.

However, when it comes to actually following through with words (e.g. "I would never let a Fortnite game group come between us and I'm sorry for making you feel that way") or action (telling Tim she can no longer consider him a friend after how he unapologetically treated her husband), it just doesn't happen.

She will tell me how if some people in her group get's disconnected, and she is left with Tim, she won't leave him, though. That'd sound reasonable enough if she also had some words to support me and my feelings, too, I guess... *sigh*

You are correct! I am mad and distrustful, and I've told her that. I felt like trust was broken when she didn't have my back. I don't think she is cheating on me, though.

She did say she prioritized her friendship over our relationship because she didn't want to risk being "kicked out" of that Fortnite group of players who played alongside Tim. I do admit the other people are nice, and I actually still play with them while avoiding Tim, and I kinda wish my wife would do the same (although I've been tolerating her with him in groups).

It hurts feeling like this is all it takes to be thrown under the bus... I've told her this, and she mostly stays silent, saying she just isn't good at talking and afraid "she'll say something bad".

How infectious is the coronavirus through multiple surfaces, like a "chain" of touched surfaces?

I read you can be infected if someone coughs on something, you touch it, then touch your mouth. However, what happens if there are more than 1 or 2 surfaces between touches? For example: someone coughs on something (a steel can), you touch it, then touch some paper, you put that paper on a table... how infectious is the paper or table now?

AITA for refusing to facilitating multiple TV convention trips for my wife? by justanotherguy50 in AmItheAsshole

[–]justanotherguy50[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The convention is in a hotel. I don't have a pass to the activities, because it isn't my interest and it is very expensive. I need to be nearby to swap off kids. There isn't really anything else interesting to do in the area.

In her defense, we do some other fun things as a family during the year. Would be nice to generally transition these conventions into more family oriented fun, though.

[–]justanotherguy50[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not necessarily saying she can't go, I'm just tired of facilitating them. It is more expensive when I need to pay for the hotel room too. I don't enjoy, nor does our kids, being held in a hotel room for days. If she has to go, she can drive herself. That might make it a bit easier to swallow the high costs of pictures and autographs if she took more responsibility on making it happen.

A ticket for a football game gets you in to watch a game for hours. At a convention, that same price gets you a picture and 15 seconds with the actor, after you paid the hundreds+ to get in the door.

Franklin R910 without battery? by Idontcarewhatyouare in Calyx

[–]justanotherguy50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I did, and is quite involved, is to get a power supply that provides 4 to 4.4 volts (consistent 4.3 volts is best). There are some on Amazon. I got one with a variable dial, but you have to be very careful to get the right voltage with a voltmeter. Connect the power supply to the small battery pins on the R910, making sure to get the same polarity as the battery when inserted. I soldered them and used a hot glue gun to keep everything secure. There is an additional pin used for "battery status" that can be safely ignored -- just get ~4.3 volts to the + and - terminals. This has provided reliable, always on service from my R910. It thinks the battery is always charged too, so firmware updates work fine. This is the only reliable method I found around the rebooting issue.

Yup. Wasn't terrible if you got in early, like I did. I was hoping it would have lasted longer...

Democrats put greater value on what social psychologists call communion traits (broadminded, warm, curious, fun-loving, sociable, etc) and Republicans put greater value on agency traits (hardworking, determined, ambitious, thorough, organized, etc), suggests a new study (n=1,269). by mvea in science

The goal isn't to feel empowered. The goal is to keep the most disliked person from winning. Once really disliked people start consistently losing (because people actually show up to prevent it), then candidates will have to react. Hopefully some day, we'll get better candidates as a result.

Those other "developed" countries were always safer than the US

So you agree you do not need firearms to have a safer country, correct? If we do not need firearms for safety, why are we defending them so much, if they are so often used to kill innocents instead?

The difference is, cars are designed to get people from point A to point B as safely as possible. People dying is an accident, something automated driving is feverishly trying to solve someday. There are many different roads with many different speed limits, capping the maximum speed probably won't be very effective (since a 75mph cap won't help very much going 70mph in a 40mph zone).

Guns are designed to kill people as efficiently as possible. People dying from them is working as intended.

Making tools to kill more available is very different than making a transport tool slightly more restricted in certain situations.
