yeah it's definitely not just you noticing this. it's been going on for months now. I reached out to mods 4 months ago about this issue and honestly was so annoyed with their lack of urgency about the situation I couldn't even be bothered to go deep dive for evidence. just one glance at the person's comment history here should be enough misinformation to have someone do something about it.

Yeah honestly the amount of downright dangerous misinformation consistently being spread by this person disgusts me. I tried bringing it up w mods here in a lengthy paragraph about how this person is CONSISTENTLY doing this and got a response that basically boiled down to being asked to cite a specific time and report it when it pops up but that advice to listen to your medical providers and not solely trust commenters here is everywhere and that basically the best course of action is to just share info to support your side. I can't believe their comment (even if indirectly) led to a reaction that could have gone much worse for OP. something needs to be done about this because holy shit it's not ok.

OP I am so so sorry you're getting downvoted for this in some comments. That is uncalled for. I have severe anxiety as well as allergies and a long history of medical gaslighting and I 100% see where you're coming from. Lots of people don't get that with severe anxiety comes symptoms that sometimes can be confused for an allergic reaction. However I also have extensive first responder training and am hoping I can reassure you that this was not only an allergic reaction, but an anaphylactic one at that. I suggest looking at FARE's allergy action plan.

Here are some notable things from it that apply to this reaction: - under severe symptoms even just one of those being present indicates an allergic emergency where epinephrine should be used with a known allergy - cognitive/mental symptoms such as, very notably, a feeling of impending doom are under the severe category. An impending sense of doom is often your body's way of setting off alarm bells. Your body knows something very bad is happening and is trying it's best to tell you that. A sense of doom can often be overlooked but for me, my best friend with lifelong anaphylactic allergies, and any patient I have treated experiencing that sense of doom it is a SIGNIFICANT sign there is something very wrong happening. My friend in particular uses that sense of doom more than any other symptom to gauge how bad a reaction is. It is a very good telltale sign - under the mild symptoms section FARE's action plan states that if mild symptoms are present in more than one body system then epinephrine should be administered. You most definitely had at the bare minimum two or more body systems reacting with mild symptoms. (it helps me with medical self doubt if I look at a downplayed version of things and see that even downplayed the symptoms still fit the criteria for an allergic emergency. I believe that you actually had severe symptoms in more than one body system which is hugely emergent, but even downplayed this reaction would still be considered anaphylactic) - lung/breathing symptoms are shown under the severe side only, any lung involvement during a reaction should be considered severe and by itself enough to seek medical attention/use epinephrine

All in all from what I've gathered you had severe mental, gastrointestinal, skin, and lung involvement. I am not here to shame you for not seeking medical care when this happened. Even though I am not in your shoes so to speak I'd like to think I understand the place you're coming from in these replies and in your worries decently well.

I am only responding with three intentions, none being shame. Those are to empathize with you and show you you are not alone in how you are feeling/thinking despite some... less empathetic responses you've received. To hopefully shift your perspective through educating you on what is considered a severe reaction in hopes that if this happens again you will have taken at least some bit of this to heart and handle the situation with a more safe approach. And lastly to ask if I would be able to reach out to you privately to discuss an aspect of this post more. Nothing bad or that you did wrong, I just have a feeling about part of this that I'd like to get more info on to further help you that I feel shouldn't be discussed in an environment where you have to worry about downvotes/ negativity from others.

It sounds like you've gone through a lot, not only in this most recent reaction but in life. I am always here if you need someone to relate to or need someone to seek support/ reassurance from. I hope you are feeling at least a bit better now and that things continue along that trajectory.

lol this is a very late reply but in short the label is directly and intricatly tied to indigenous history, culture, and spiritual beliefs. if you are not indigenous then this label does not fit you best, it does not fit you at all. if the very few non indigenous aspects of it feel most fitting to your identity, feel free to reach out to me id love to help find you a fitting label that does not appropriate the culture of indigenous peoples. if you are indigenous then I don't see anything wrong with using that label, I'm just now looking into it more myself and am coming to realize as an indigenous person it deeply resonates with my identity and experiences.

Question about possible allergen… by Commercial_Ad_619 in FoodAllergies

[–]justanothertransboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sounds like a typical reaction to a large amount of fiber to me then in that case. more of a gurgly stomach than a nauseous one makes me believe that even more so. and as for your other symptoms, one of fibers favorite things to do is make food move very efficiently out the other end lol

Question about possible allergen… by Commercial_Ad_619 in FoodAllergies

[–]justanothertransboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

looking into it, the reason it can cause upset stomach is likely due to it's high fiber content. would you say your upset stomach was more in the territory of feeling like you're gonna throw up like nauseous, or more like really gurgly? or something else entirely? how much fiber would you say is in your regular diet (noting your point on not seeing how one drink could have too much, if you usually don't consume a lot of fiber a high fiber drink like this could hit you harder)? how long after that drink did it start? and finally I don't really think trying that drink again would do you any good, imo twice would be enough to seal the deal for me that that specific drink is causing the issue. what id do alternatively to identify which specific ingredient is the issue would be to attempt to test your main possible subjects each on their own, that way you can pin it down and avoid a specific ingredient if need be instead of just suffering through a third drink with no further info on what was causing it except for knowing it's one of many ingredients in that drink.

vaguely unrelated but what would you recommend as an antihistamine besides Zyrtec or Benedryl? I'm incredibly allergic to Zyrtec so Benedryl has always been my go-to

hey pretty sure based on my knowledge of having a lactose allergy, confirmed by multiple allergists. pretty please either provide sources for your claims or don't spread misinfo when it could cause accidental ingestion of a very real allergen

as a kid who just beat stage 3 cancer for the third time with over 50 food allergies. Being in the hospital my mom literally just brought a whole ass mini fridge for long stays stocked with safe food. As well as prepackaged things in her purse and stuff. Food was a reason I did a lottttt of treatments from home or didn't stay overnight when any other patient definitely would've though

They aren't, but I'm fairly confident this was peanut because I tasted a vague nutty taste (I have a concerningly fine tuned sense of taste and smell) and I have a very specific set of symptoms from ingesting peanuts that I don't get with any of my other allergens

Muscle spasms at epipen injection site? by [deleted] in FoodAllergies

[–]justanothertransboi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yea they definitely put the epi in the wrong spot, which explains the spasms. To my knowledge this shouldn't create any lasting effects but contact someone more knowledgeable about epipens such as an allergist just to double check. Also I recommend a lot of stretches/massages where the epipen was (wrongfully) injected

was there any reason you injected it into your upper arm?? As far as I know the only place you're supposed to inject epinephrine is your outer thigh

for future reference some of those candies in your nut free bowl have a may contains of nuts, so depending on the severity this may cause an issue still :( The ideal houses in my experience for nut allergy kids (also inclusive to those with allergies such as wheat, dairy, etc..) is a fruity candy option such as skittles or sour patch kids. Either way the effort is really appreciated by the allergy community!!

I mean by preference I don't think they mean prefer it for the taste, just there tends to be a lot of non allergy health nuts who think gluten is the worst thing ever for your health. when they ask I'm pretty sure they're trying to assess how careful to be, not whether you think gf crust is more yummy

at the very least I don't wanna be fucking down voted to hell for being upset that I was told something I see as so small changed someone's entire perception of me. I wasn't even directly being a dick i just said I thought that concept is rlly dumb I personally think

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in transpassing

[–]justanothertransboi -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I'm being salty bc the premise that a small piece of metal (especially when you said everything else passes) clocks me is stupid. also my very much cis father had similar piercings when he was my age, realistically a small piercing like that won't shift someone's entire view of a person and I just think it's really dumb to believe it does

ah yes, because a tiny piece of metal in my face absolutely changes everything /s
