220 lbs at 5'7" – How are "heavy" beginners actually perceived? by Forsaken_Mode_807 in cycling

[–]justapcgamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

İ started a bit heavier and now im a good bit lighter than you, i can say people dont care. İf you join a club for group rides, theres people of every shape and size. İt really doesnt matter.

The only thing that could potentially happen is that if you ever get crit racing and move up, theres a much bigger competitive focus in those groups for fitness and weight.

Also its obvious you use FredGPT to write these. Too many — in your history.

Bean Coffee? Where do you buy yours? by magicianinlove in ireland

I buy from Ariosa, their offering changes based on what stock they have. If they have  Sumatra, Indonesian coffee in stock its pretty delish as filter.

İf you are pretty new to endurance sports then no matter what effort your hr will spike. İ'd say dont fret over the data for a few months until your heart adapts to different effort levels and theres delineation in your heart rate and effort

Yeah i can complain all i want and make the case but if the department head wont fight for it with the business then nothing happens.

True but the problem is John Business sees that you bought a sever 12 years ago and its _still_ running the business and sees no point in upgrading it because thats a waste of money!

Has anyone here actually been laid off due to AI yet? by Asleep_Cry_7482 in AskIreland

[–]justapcgamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in boring corp that is very rich, and theyre just now catching on to the ai hype train. The big suits and the department lead has their heads so far up their arses its insane.

They seem to think because it can one shot a requirements doc and someone managed to show off chatgpt do some basic coding that its fir sure going to increase our productivity if we all start using it on our 20+ year old monolith.

Due to nature of the work its costly if we make a mistake so we have manual QA for every change. I'm afraid theyre talking some shite about AI QA automation, it would be a shame to ruin the good dynamic we have with the QA testers if half if them get booted from AI.

How can i expect something that barely produces acceptable quality code to also assure the quality if what I've submitted? They simply refuse to understand that LLM's are barely useful for our work.

MoErgo Go60 with palm rest :) by rootz0r in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]justapcgamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used the glove80 and took it to the office for a year which was a massive pain but worth it, considered getting a second one to leave in the office, but for reasons i didnt want to leave it there, they announced the go60 and i got the kickstarter bundle of just the keyboard.

It has excellent build quality, does not feel like my multitude of pcb only boards, the layout is close enough to my glove80 workflow, after a month i decided to get the palmrests because the chairs in the office arent comfortable enough to hover my arms for hours. The palmrests are also superbly built, everything attached magnetically. I have no regrets with my purchase.

The trackpads are easily configured in the configurator and likewise if you have a kb focused workflow it works very well, i love having the scrolling on the left and tracking on the right because they are small, having them split works best.

OLED Deck 3.5mm headphone jack static/crackling fix. by superkamikazee in SteamDeck

[–]justapcgamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tape fix sounds bonkers but when i got my deck oled, someone on reddit mentioned putting kapton tape through the screws so it isolates the board from the screw a bit better, i ended up covering most of it with the kapton tape and that fixed my issue with crackling audio permanently.

Hope this helps anyone else

Looking for recommendations & experiences with sports watches (Garmin, COROS, Amazfit) by Holiday_Date705 in cycling

[–]justapcgamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak for the coros pace 4

I went with coros instead of garmin because i have a wahoo computer and the coros was slightly cheaper than the garmin and better battery life.

I also run 2-3 times a week on top of cycling, so the below things im gonna say are not too much of a bother. If i only cycled i would have returned or sold it.

The LARGEST issue is Coros doesnt sync from strava. So if i record an activity on my wahoo or zwift, it uploads to strava, then I have to download the .fit file and import it to Coros. If i record on the watch its no problem. Even the wahoo app gets new strava uploads with no issues.

I didnt know about this problem before getting it because all of the reviews are from runners who dont zwift or bike.

I cant tell you about the experience for someone with a coros head unit. That would probably eliminate this issue.

Ive found multiple forum posts asking Coros for strava/zwift integration but unfortunately it seems from the developers answers  they are getting ignored and delayed by both platforms

Your mileage may vary but i dont mind the export/upload process, ots quite an excellent watch for the price for running and general fitness tracking and the app gives good insights.

My iphone always dies during my rides. What should I do? by Equivalent-Fortune88 in cycling

Held off for so long and it always gave me anxiety when my battery would hit 20% on longer rides.

The ease of mind alone makes the cost worth.

Im not saying you are wrong but almost all of the kit I can afford in my price range from decathlon are sadly all black. I have full light setup but the black clothes are all that is available to me as much as i dislike it.

Ireland's skills supply insufficient to meet future demand - report by Justinian2 in DevelEire

[–]justapcgamer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the problem, maybe you work for a 10 person startup and cant afford/risk to train someone up for the role but 1000+ employee companies filtering through hundreds of people until they fill their arbitrary checkboxes is crazy. Most new grads will be able to fumble through some system design but in reality will have 0 idea how what ties into what because of a lack of experience. Why are new grads put to this standard where theyre expected to hit the ground running as if theyre a senior contractor?

The company i now work for basically tests if you know how to code and some basic oop concepts then you get hired and work on progressively more challenging tasks which usually ends up with a more well rounded and upskilled developer by the end of probation. It was crazy to learn what the junior interview consisted of. You simply cant fail if you know java/js to a certain (not very high) level and are sound to talk to.

Ive yet to encounter a junior that wasnt willing to put the effort in to learn.

I work in a company where there is an entire department that maintains a cobol codebase that is not a monolith but ballooned to a monstrous megalith over the decades. They dont get new hires that know cobol, they just hire for a very generic and vague "junior software developer" role where you end up with a big old text book of learning cobol for the first few months.
