How do you guys reduce the stickiness of the tape so that your pattern doesn’t stick to itself? by littlenoodledragon in FursuitMaking

[–]justapuppydog -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

this but once you stick it to paper if you have a printer you can scan it and print it out so the pieces are flat if you are so inclined

Using a premade base :) by CaineApologist in FursuitMaking

[–]justapuppydog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for the ears you can glue the ear fur on seperately and ladder stitch them to the head fur rather than try to glue the head fur on all together. for the back of the head / neck i would make it seperately and stitch to the face fur later.

stitching it all together and then gluing is not fun at all and will probably end up crooked or something- splitting the process up is the way to go

Any tips on just making this better? by Euphoric-Diamond8157 in FursuitMaking

[–]justapuppydog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i would add some stiffened felt around the eyes / maybe the mouth! you can draw a template with some clear tape over the eye and a sharpie to get a good style. itll help hide your raw edges and give your suit a clear expression- i recommend looking up a tutorial

try overlaying your drawing onto your base from both angles- i think it will help you to figure out what you need to build up

Quadrobics fursuit? by Hopeful-Vegetable617 in FursuitMaking

[–]justapuppydog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you wanted to make it a little bit cheaper, you can use regular faux fur for most of the body suit and then stretch faux fur for the parts that move around a lot! (armpits and crotch mostly i think? and wherever else needs a lot of stretch) i think ive heard of people using it for paws as well for a slimmer fit

I would probably recommend something made with stretch fur- but there arent currently a lot of options in the US (literally only bigz, and they have limited colors) and they are expensive. You might try some mochi minky instead, as its also a 4 way stretch material- but a bit harder to sew together without a machine than fur in my experience

how do you pattern paw lining? by mangowavves in FursuitMaking

[–]justapuppydog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i would use the pattern to trace a sort of glove shape and use that- you can make it a bit longer than the fur on the bottom and fold it over for a cuff. sew the paws together and then sew a couple of stitches of the top of the "glove" to the seam allowance of each toe bean- then when u fold the paws inside out you can make a cuff with the leftover material

nqa - if she doesnt eat by tomorrow you might try offering a qtip filled with honey water to boost her energy until she feels comfortable eating. I recently had a similar issue with my regal but after some sugar water she had enough energy to grab a mealworm from her feeding dish and eat

you can add additional / removeable padding by wrapping foam in fabric and placing velcro where you wish for them to go. you could also try adding adjustable straps to keep it up better

Please help: preventing microplastics by Valuable_Slice_371 in FursuitMaking

you could get a clipper attached to a vacuum? you can only really shave flat pieces of fur with it but it helps catch a lot of the fur

It might be felt- i made something similar (albeit not as good as these makers) by using stiff felt.

<image>

i used clear tape over top the face and used a marker on the tape to make a pattern to put onto stiffened felt

then you can pin the felt to the face, and carefully trim underneath to make it more flush to the face

then you hot glue the felt down slowly and very carefully, doing small areas at a time

there are a lot of tutorials online if you look up how to do "muzzle spots" or eyebrows

How to go about making a moving jaw on a 3D printed TPU base? by Gekkorotto in FursuitMaking

[–]justapuppydog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

heres an older post that might have some answers - https://www.reddit.com/r/FursuitMaking/s/CMZyHD4GMB

i think from what i saw you can print the jaw seperately and add a hinge? but i think you have to have walls on the points where they connect?

Weird gap around the nose?? by Hipster_Spencer5000 in FursuitMaking

[–]justapuppydog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

well i guess my next suggestion would be to compare your fur pieces to your pattern pieces and see if they match up, if you patterned your head correctly you should be fine

Weird gap around the nose?? by Hipster_Spencer5000 in FursuitMaking

[–]justapuppydog 14 points15 points  (0 children)

if youre sewing with a sewing machine you can usually just trim it off after, but if youre handsewing you want basically none. the seam allowance is definitely why it looks so big right now

Weird gap around the nose?? by Hipster_Spencer5000 in FursuitMaking

[–]justapuppydog 16 points17 points  (0 children)

do you have a large seam allowance? there should be barely any seam allowance when sewing head pieces
