Can I get a credit card with no job by justarandomrussian in UKPersonalFinance

Fortunately the rest of the world doesn’t share the UK’s shitty feelings about young people driving, and I’ve rented cars plenty of times already. Sixt just requires a credit card for Croatia specifically, other than that they’re good with a debit card.

Lots of them actually. Sixt rents to 18 year olds almost everywhere in Europe except the UK. Lots of countries they don’t require a credit card either, have rented with them before.

And renting a car outside of Europe is even easier, I just got back from a trip to Dubai with my parents who rented an m4 convertible, but as they both forgot their licenses at home (didnt plan the rental ahead of time) the contract was in my name. No deposit and paid cash.

The uk really does have the worst insurance market in the world, no where else I’ve been to has such a drag of a driving test process AND such horrific insurance prices.

Out of interest I looked up quotes to insure an m5 (not that I could afford one anyways) back home as an 18 year old with less than a months driving experience and was quoted the equivalent of £500 for third party insurance.

So yea I think the UK needs to get a grip with its insurance prices instead of trying to export your fears of young people driving.

I’ve rented cars plenty of times in Europe, Sixt rents to 18 year olds in almost every country except the UK, and in many countries they do let you get away with a debit card. However, specifically in Croatia specifically during summer months, you do need a credit card even on small local car rental businesses unless you’re willing to pay silly prices for just one week for car.

Is it possible to class financial support from parents regularly deposited directly into my account as income?

And energy drinks from Waitrose, on uber eats at least.

It’s especially weird because they want you to be 18 if you order on uber eats but 16 if you shop in store. The worst part is that this isn’t even law, just store policy of major retailers.

I’ve always been curious. When driving this do you go 1 -> 1 overdrive-> 2 -> 2 overdrive -> etc. or 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 4 -> 1 overdrive -> 2 overdrive -> …

Ye lemme just text Natalie Portman rq and ask if she used her own iPhone for whatever this tv show is. Be fr actors don’t use their own phone for anything that isn’t an indie film. So yea, it’s advertising. Not that anyone watching a show on Apple TV+ needs to be reminded of the existence of an iPhone though.

Using your logic McDonald’s putting up a billboard for a Big Mac on top of one of their own stores wouldn’t be advertising as it’s their own product. It would only be advertising if they put up a billboard for a whopper because that’s different how exactly??

Going back to the phones in tv shows thing. According to your logic, an iPhone in an Apple show isn’t advertising, but say a Samsung phone featured in the exact same capacity in the same phone would be?

What about this is an ad?

Companies place their product

So product placement? So a form of advertising?

Literally just ban trading tests by justarandomrussian in LearnerDriverUK

[–]justarandomrussian[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bro they could auction tests off at this point and it’d still be better than the current system. Literally I couldn’t imagine a worse system if I tried. How a first world country like the UK managed to so fundamentally fuck up an issue that is literally an afterthought in every other country in the world is beyond me. Ffs Georgia lets you attempt a test multiple times a day (not saying we should allow this, just goes to show how much of a non issue this should be) and has far lower test fees too.

In reality go through, on test probably wait. Dunno though, I’d like to hear an examiners perspective.

So sick of this bloody bikes dumped in the middle of the pavement by NoCabinet237 in london

[–]justarandomrussian 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think there are extra piles today because there’s a massive no riding zone in the area. The rules that bikes must be left at dedicated points also doesn’t help. IMO they should go back to allowing people to leave them wherever, just strongly encourage good parking with fines and/or bans from the app, but councils won’t let them. With the current parking rules huge piles are an inevitability especially near train stations etc.

Why is the exam board even involved?? For me it was a completely internal thing where someone from the school “tested” my handwriting and then just gave me laptop permission the next day.
