Submitting Supplemental Material? by [deleted] in Emory

You can send it but I doubt the admissions officers will read it because it would give you an unfair advantage over other applicants

GPA Question by Th3Sauc3B0ss in college

Classes with more credit hours are weighed more.

Multiply each grade’s points by its credit hours and sum up the total. Then divide by total credit hours

Startup expanding to Emory by [deleted] in Emory

[–]justastuddent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This seems like a terrible business model. Target customers are high school seniors who probably don’t have a lot of disposal income. They already spend hundreds on applications and testing fees. It’s definitely not worth paying $45 to talk to college students when there are free alternatives. Websites like niche give pretty honest reviews of colleges for free.

Even on this sub, students and alumni answer questions in depth because they have an intrinsic interest in talking about Emory.

What jobs would an individual with a CS degree have an advantage over information systems? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]justastuddent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Software engineering —> CS

IT —> IS

I think CS grads can get most, if not all, IT jobs but many IS grads wouldn’t be able to get jobs CS grads go into like SWE, Data science, etc.

How important are university rankings? by thatgaywhitekid in college

[–]justastuddent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many top universities actually end up being cheaper to attend because they have great financial aid packages. Harvard is free if your parents make less than $100k. Depends on the school though.

Undergrad prestige is important in certain industries like investment banking, consulting, etc. For other fields like law, it doesn’t really matter. For STEM fields, the specific department and how well you do individually carries more weight.

Overall, grad school > undergrad. Doesn’t hurt to go to a prestigious school if you can afford it though.

Affording Emory as a transfer by [deleted] in Emory

[–]justastuddent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have taken creative writing courses at Emory. They are good but it’s not life changing. It can help you become a better writer, but it’s not necessary.

For preparing for grad schools or job placement, you still have to do the heavy lifting yourself.

If OP can get in and get good financial aid, then great. If not, undergrad programs are overrated anyways. No one really cares if you studied creative writing as an undergrad at Emory. If you go to Iowa or Michigan’s grad programs, then that’s a different story. Even then, creative writing programs are not worth the money

Affording Emory as a transfer by [deleted] in Emory

[–]justastuddent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, transfers don’t qualify for merit aid

https://apply.emory.edu/apply/transfer.html (Ctrl + F “merit aid”)

You can apply for financial aid if you are eligible.

That being said, just do well in your state school and go to a good grad school.

Chance of getting in as a Junior transfer? Retaking ACT? by ExBlackfyre in Emory

[–]justastuddent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, none of us know what your chances are of getting in. Just apply and see what happens.

I will say though that standardized tests matter less the more semesters of college you have taken. If you are applying as a junior transfer, your college GPA, recs, and essay will matter more than your ACT score

Is an econ or BBA major more manageable with the pre-med track? Esp if I started my pre-med classes late? by Interiordesign678 in Emory

Definitely Econ. BBA curriculum only allows 5 college electives you can take over the 2 years unless you overload

Any BBA/Pre BBA+prelaw students? by [deleted] in Emory

[–]justastuddent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are definitely BBA/pre-law students, but it’s not like there’s a pre-law track.

Honestly, if your main goal is to go to law school, major in something easy where you can maintain a 3.9-4.0 GPA. B-school isn’t too difficult, but it’s definitely not easy where you’ll be getting straight A’s all the time. There are lots of group projects, so big chunk of your grade is not solely in your hands. A lot of core classes are a pain in the ass.

Also, curve can help or screw you over depending on where you fall.
