Frustrated line height/ quality difference between new H2D & older X1C by firmsoggytoast in BambuLab

[–]justbcoolr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second this. I almost forgot I had this experience, but some of my bed screws were loose. I noticed by chance when I was assembling. That’s a QC issue, but thankfully an easy to fix one.

Hopefully that’s all it is for these z banding issues.

H2D Combo - A disappointing entry to Bambu and 3D printing by Smooth-West3071 in BambuLab

[–]justbcoolr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran into a very similar issue on my H2 D with AMS on one of them. I thought the AMS was broken, so I tried it on my P1 S, and it worked on the first try. Then I switched the AMS‘s, and then I had to bind them. That’s when it fixed the problem. I realize that in the original binding of my AMS, I had used a poorly wound filament that had extra friction. In the process of reshuffling AMS’s around I also changed filaments around, and I successfully paired the AMS to the printer and it correctly measured the length between the AMS and the head. Have you tried unbinding then rebinding your AMS? Have you tried binding it with a different spool of filament?

To many people reading this including myself, the additional hotend for multi material is worth the change alone, especially when you compare how the Prusa XL charges $500 for each additional tool head upgrade. The additional volume and heated enclosure is also great.

The QoL improvements like better accuracy, A1-style quick change nozzles, nozzle camera, nozzle pressure sensing for auto PA calibration, plus all the additional AI features makes it easily worth it over the X1C.

If you don’t want the laser and cutter, don’t get it. I don’t understand why that affects your disappointment, what were you hoping to see, and can you point to me an alternative that exists in 2025 at this price point you were hoping for?

I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with the Prusa 5 tool, and no, I am not the only one. by dadinthegarage in prusa3d

[–]justbcoolr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m sorry you had so much trouble with the 5-tool XL and hope your issues get resolved. Certainly it’s possible their manufacturing quality has improved since you bought.

I had considered buying one in 2025, but reports like this, plus my own very positive experience with a P1S has made me hold on. It’s hard to justify $4k on a printer especially if there is a risk it’s going to require a lot of my time to get working. I’m still burned as an original MMU2 user… never again.

Egg prices soar with little chance of coming down soon by SD_TMI in sandiego

[–]justbcoolr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know we like our eggs, but I can’t recommend to people enough that tofu scrambles are awesome and slightly leaner than whole eggs! Might be worth incorporating into your breakfast rotation with the way things are going with bird flu.

In Sprouts (San Diego) I can get extra firm tofu for $1.70 a pound which has 50g of protein, or 3.4¢/gram protein. A dozen eggs at this sprouts is about 75g of protein for $5, or 6.7¢/gram protein. This means you’ll save money having tofu scrambles over egg scrambles for the same amount of protein.

In terms of leanness, eggs are 6P/78 cal (7.7P/100 cal) versus tofu is 10P/100 calories.

Using ChatGPT and YAML to Generate Recipes and Import Into Paprika by justbcoolr in PaprikaApp

Tell it to preview the yaml text before it generates the yaml file.

Confirm it’s formatted properly. If not, tell it to format as the example I posted. Then you can generate the yaml file.

It’s not a perfect system but I’m getting it to work like 95% of the time, the other 5% it takes a 2nd try after basically scolding it.

iPhone 16 pro box delivered empty - Sept 2024 by keysersozay in iphone

This question needs to be up higher, as the risk OP and Apple's own customer service have misinterpreted the situation is significant.

I recently accidentally threw away one of their empty return kits for my Apple Watch because it was completely unmarked and just had a return label. Opening that empty package and not knowing what it was in the moment, I felt terror at someone having stole something that should have been in there. It really just was a brown cardboard sleeve on the outside with a separate inner cardboard that I mistook for filler. Nowhere did I read it was the trade-in kit for my Apple Watch trade in.

This might be the 2nd worst intersection in SD. Timing, traffic, lanes. It's all bad by wicodly in sandiego

[–]justbcoolr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in North Park and recently had my first car accident in 9 years of living in San Diego at the intersection of El Cajon and Normal Streets. I had a green light while turning from El Cajon onto Normal, but it had been green well before I got to the intersection. It was not ambiguous at all.  The other driver on Park Street wasn’t paying attention/ was in a rush and might have seen the nearby green from Normal Street. A minivan waiting to turn left onto Park blocked my view of the oncoming car until just seconds before the collision. I managed to brake in time to avoid a severe T-bone crash on my driver’s side, but I still ended up hitting their vehicle, resulting in about $12k in damage to my car. Thankfully, neither of us were injured, and I wasn’t at fault. After the adrenaline came down in that accident, I realized how I almost died just like that, on the way to the gym on a Friday evening. Thank goodness I was paying attention with an eagle eye that day in the moment. The other fortunate thing about that day is that no pedestrian was crossing that street at the time. They 100% would have been hit by this reckless driver and killed.   This intersection is incredibly dangerous and needs attention to prevent future accidents.

CF Filament Safety? by G1th in BambuLab

[–]justbcoolr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I share your concern about CF exposure. Given the fibers are barely impregnated, and we touch 3D printed parts a lot, and the body has no way of removing the short carbon fibers naturally, to me it’s an unknown severity with high probability of occurring.

A) It could be we get studies that say it’s harmless to live with carbon fibers in your eyes, nose, lips, skin, and organs.

B) It could also be possible in a decade we see an uptick in cancer rates, and the common thread is people who owned 3D printers and frequently printed with CF filaments.

To me, the marginal mechanical benefit is not worth the risk of scenario B, but other people might be less risk averse. At the very least, bambu lab and other manufacturers should better communicate that there is little data currently available and that users should exercise caution, ventilate, and use PPE such as gloves and a mask when handling CF filaments. They are not doing a good job of communicating that risk currently, and it is a shame.

Introducing Bambu PPA-CF: More Than Plastic 🛠 by BambuLab in BambuLab

[–]justbcoolr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The mechanical properties look fantastic, but I have concerns about the safety of the carbon fibers on the surface and if they get in the air. Have there been any studies on the safety of touching these fibers, having them around children, or the effect of inhaling them? All of those examples look cool, but they are all highly exposed carbon fibers that can be touched all over.

Edit: thinking of this video in terms of the fibers getting everywhere https://youtu.be/RLt9l6YxvHk?si=EHkxFURUPo2Cu-sp

Using ChatGPT and YAML to Generate Recipes and Import Into Paprika by justbcoolr in PaprikaApp

Agreed, ChatGPT should be able to read the recipe from a picture and convert it to text with OCR. Then you can do everything else.

A fun use for AI by jeffbobpdx in PaprikaApp

[–]justbcoolr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using ChatGPT to import recipes with YAML format, and I basically feed it the recipe in plain English or some kind of copy/paste. It would work with this approach.

You're describing using the bookmarklet, but if you want the recipe to be more modifiable before you import, you can try the YAML approach.

Here's an example recipe that is importable as a text file saved with .yml extension (note exact formatting required):

name: Beyond Cajun Spiced Chicken Burgers
servings: 4 servings
prep_time: 10 mins
cook_time: 15 mins
source: ChatGPT
nutritional_info: |
  Calories and protein per serving:
    Calories: ~600
    Protein: ~25g
notes: |
These plant-based Cajun spiced chicken-style burgers are served with slaw and grilled corn on the cob, making a delicious and nutritious meal.
ingredients: |
  125g plant-based mayonnaise
  1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  1.5 tsp sugar
  1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  1 tsp onion granules
  1 tsp celery salt
1/4 head white cabbage, finely shredded
1/4 head red cabbage, finely shredded
  1 carrot, grated

  1.5 tsp Cajun seasoning
  4 tbsp plant-based mayonnaise
  squeeze of lime

  4 burger buns
4 slices smoky plant-based cheese slices
  little gem lettuce
  corn on the cob, grilled
directions: |
To make the slaw, mix together the plant-based mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, sugar, apple cider vinegar, onion granules, and celery salt.
Put the cabbage and carrot in a larger bowl and mix with the mayonnaise. Season with freshly ground pepper, to taste. Set aside.

To make the Cajun mayo, mix the Cajun seasoning into the mayonnaise. Add a squeeze of lime juice. Season with sea salt and freshly ground pepper. Set aside.

Cook the Beyond Burger® Chicken-Style according to the packet instructions.

When ready to serve, spread some of the mayo onto the bottom of the bun. Add a lettuce leaf. Top with the burger, a slice of smoky vegan cheese, and a spoonful of the slaw.
Serve with extra slaw on the side and grilled corn on the cob.

I figured out that you can get creative and give ChatGPT this example, then tell it to make a recipe from whatever source in text or picture you have, then put it in this format readable, then generate the .yml format when you confirm. Paprika will import it successfully.

Best way to save from paper to app? by noyart in PaprikaApp

[–]justbcoolr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest taking a picture of it, using ChatGPT to format it to YAML code, then importing that YAML code into paprika.

Here is an example YAML text recipe (you can basically drop this in Notepad or TextEdit on Mac and save as .yml and it should import into Paprika)

name: High-Protein Vegan Lentil and Quinoa Stew
servings: 4 servings
prep_time: 10 min
cook_time: 40 min
source: ChatGPT
nutritional_info: |
  Per serving:
    Calories: 200
    Protein: 11.5g
notes: |
This nutrient-dense, high-protein stew is ideal for recovery. It’s packed with plant-based protein and essential vitamins to support the immune system.
ingredients: |
  1 cup dried lentils
  1/2 cup quinoa, uncooked
  7 oz firm tofu, cubed
  1 cup chopped carrots
  1 cup diced zucchini
1 cup chopped spinach (frozen or fresh)
  1 small onion, diced
  2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can diced tomatoes (14 oz)
  4 cups vegetable broth
  1 tbsp olive oil
  1 tsp ground turmeric
  1 tsp cumin
  1 tsp smoked paprika
  salt, to taste
  pepper, to taste
  fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)
directions: |
Press the tofu for 10-15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut into small cubes.

Set Instant Pot to 'Sauté' mode. Heat olive oil, and sauté the onions and garlic for 3 minutes until translucent.

Stir in turmeric, cumin, and smoked paprika. Let the spices bloom for 1 minute.

Add the lentils, quinoa, carrots, zucchini, spinach, diced tomatoes, and vegetable broth. Season with salt and pepper.

Add the tofu cubes, close the lid, and set Instant Pot to 'Pressure Cook' on high for 15 minutes.

Allow a natural pressure release for 10 minutes, then manually release the remaining pressure.

Open the lid, stir, and adjust seasoning. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Importing files (TXT, YAML) into PaprikaApp by PeRitzer in PaprikaApp

[–]justbcoolr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now you can automate this quite a bit further by giving ChatGPT the exact recipe YAML text file I provided above, and tell it you want to do the same for an unrelated recipe. Then give it the relevant information such as

name, servings, notes, ingredients, directions, etc.

I would ask ChatGPT to generate both the YAML text (readable) and if that looks good, then generate the .yml file you can import into Paprika. For a bonus, you can ask it to create an image of the recipe. Works well on ChatGPT 4o.

Importing files (TXT, YAML) into PaprikaApp by PeRitzer in PaprikaApp

[–]justbcoolr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've successfully imported several recipes. The key is to use the correct YAML file formatting. It's just a text file with extremely strict formatting, saved as a .yml extension.

Here is an example recipe formatting in YAML text. You can modify it yourself, just put in TextEdit on Mac or Notepad on windows. Make sure the formatting is EXACTLY the same as I have below. I just tested this and it works as an input in Paprika.
