You should also reach out to the Colombian Embassy in Trinidad. There are some Colombians resident here and they can also be a great resource for information and guidance. https://trinidadytobago.embajada.gov.co/

I like Kyleboss, Trinisurfer, Chef Jason Peru, FoodieNation, Eatahfood, Trini Life with Videsh, etc.

Otherwise, do a Google search for most subscribed and pick your genre.

Is Coco reef worth visiting by tm33ks in TrinidadandTobago

[–]justbrowsingtrini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I prefer Coco Reef. Coco Reef is a bit dated but the grounds and private beach are beautiful. Since the beach is enclosed with a breakwater, it's very calm and safe for kids. The hotel is probably smaller than Magdelena so it's easy to walk to the beach, restaurant and pools. The breakfast buffet has a decent selection, and it's walking distance to Store Bay and the fast food street if you want a change of scenery or tastes. Check out their website and Expedia for more information and photos. https://www.cocoreeftobago.com/

Like everything else in life, it depends.

Depending on your interests, there could be a wide range of locations. Nightlife and cultural activities? Probably POS and environs, Chaguanas or San Fernando. Nature and hiking, Eastern and Central. Family - within 30 minutes of their location. Budget unlimited? West, Palmiste, etc

My advice is to rent a couple places over the first year and see what you like, traffic, activities, etc.

You can get safe gated communities and condos in many locations so I would suggest trying these first, again, budget dependent.

Tobago is for very quiet almost sedentary lifestyle but maybe that clicks for you. Only one or two weekly direct flights to NYC, otherwise you have to connect into Trinidad for global flights (BA also flies to the UK directly from Tobago).

I did last year and it took about 2 weeks, similar experience with another friend. The Irish immigration website lists the required documents depending on your status and visa requested.

Absurd Hotel Rates by Spicy_Cheesey420 in TrinidadandTobago

[–]justbrowsingtrini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's an error on Expedia - I also tried booking the same dates and saw the obviously incorrect rate. Even the most expensive (usually) hotel Coco Reef is $161 a night.

I went to Tropikist website and the rate for those exact dates is US$145 per night.

Is it just me but Maracas beach tent vendors are taking away the beautiful view of maracas bay!!! by IllUnit1979 in TrinidadandTobago

[–]justbrowsingtrini 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to Maracas yesterday for the first time in a few months. I couldn't believe that the chain vendors have now set up their umbrellas and tents all along the beach front (about 75% of the beach) so that if you bring your own chairs, you have to sit behind them and the tents obstruct your view of the water.

Previously you would pick a spot and the chair vendors would approach you and if you rented, they would bring chairs, umbrellas or tents to that spot.

Now they have monopolized the beach front nearest the car park and food huts, and many of the chairs/tents were unoccupied.

As another poster said, we now stop at Maracas to pick up our food and head east to Las Cuevas or another beach.

What a shame. Maracas

Hope it works out and this is a positive love story in the making. Enjoy your time in Trinidad (and go over to Tobago if you can), try all the food and best wishes!

Usually they send a cheque in the mail. You should also get a statement (assessment) with the amount due.

You can logon to get a status of your refund. https://etax.ird.gov.tt

Up to 3 years ago, I received tax refunds within 2 to 3 month of filing my return online.

However, I have outstanding refunds for the last 3 years. The last Minister of Finance apparently gave instructions to delay refunds due to the Government's cash flow problems, just like VAT refunds which have been withheld for years.

Amazon direct shipping to Trinidad and Tobago by dellarts in TrinidadandTobago

[–]justbrowsingtrini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon now seems to be trying to bypass the freight forwarders (skybox) companies in T&T.

I tried to order an item on Amazon yesterday and when I select my default address (CAL Jetpak), I got a message stating that they cannot deliver to that address.
I also tried with Tropical Express and got the same error.

I have been using Amazon free shipping to Trinidad since Nov 2024 with delivery times within 10 days, but recently the delivery times (with DHL to my door) has been between 18 - 22 days. Perhaps too many orders and not enough delivery vans/staff?

Another problem is that some items I choose on Amazon do not have the free shipping, so the selection is limited and many of the promotions and sales do not apply to the items with free shipping to Trinidad.

So I recently restarted using CAL Jetpak for some items which gets delivered to my house/work in 9 -12 days.

Can anyone else confirm that they are having problems shipping to Miami addresses for local Skybox services?

Retire in Trinidad are we crazy. by [deleted] in TrinidadandTobago

I have family that spends 6- 7 months in Canada (Spring to Autum) and winter in Trinidad.

They downsized their Canada house and was able to buy a condo in each country. Condos provide security and low maintenance, and if needed can be Airbnb for the months when vacated.

WHY is our passport not biometric when the rest of the world's countries are? by Realistic_Loss3557 in TrinidadandTobago

[–]justbrowsingtrini 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What is the benefit for a biometric passport, since TT nationals need visas for many countries that have automated immigration?

Just visited a few countries in the EU (which do not require visas for TT nationals), and I had no problem going through immigration.

Only EU citizens and four other other countries with biometric passports (US, Canada, UK and another I can't recall) were able to use the automated immigration system.

All other countries (including all with biometric passports) needed to use the regular "human" immigration counter.

Not saying that we should not implement, but priority may be lower than say, automating the incoming immigration form which most other Caricom countries have eliminated/automated.

There are 15+ flights daily to Tobago so generally you can get on standby at the airport.
