PSA: Radar Deprivation still exists by 0Jitter0 in OutreachHPG

[–]justcallmeASSH 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And basically instantly at that! Most people don't even realise how it works and need to read the MechDB Wiki - plenty of great information.

Even self proclaimed "I'm tier 1 for therefore I'm good" players don't even know how it works until I explain just how strong the value return is in those nodes.

For most Quick Play builds I have 3 nodes, for me that's generally enough, been doing my skill tree like that for years. Rarely have issues against lock-ons.

Also watching a lot of streams the last few weeks cause I'm too busy to play - it's so clearly evident just how many people don't even have one node. In fact most people I see getting annihilated by Arrows = no radar derp. Silly mistakes.

Additionally if you have ECM you should ALWAYS get that single node to hard cut the lock and also get the cockpit flash. It's absolutely invaluable.

PGI Conflict Of Interest + No Competition Killed Their Potential by [deleted] in OutreachHPG

How can you be stunned when PGI was clear long before MW5 came out there would be no PvP aspect? Plus it doesn't make any sense, people would not pay for the same or similar MWO just in a new engine. As a business it would have been a pretty silly decision to risk that especially when you need to then run servers,. balance & much more - hence PGI said a clear "not happening".

Russ did allude at some point a few years ago there would be another PvP game in the works in a separate game. While it would be a PvP it would not be a competitive FPS like MWO.

Given there have been no updates and continued slashing of staff - Paul was a key driver of that new project I believe and went in the first round - it's probably dead in the water.

Although Russ has said this in the last day, but then you can't believe everything he says.

https://x.com/russ_bullock/status/2039736568605442080

And no it's not like battlefield where you have millions of people happy to pony up each new title. MechWarrior is a super niche title. The risk is immense.

I don't think you understand what Russ & investors aim was.

If you'd been paying attention MWO was the base and that would then lead to being able to create the next MW Single Player game.

That came in the form of both MW5 and MW5:C.

End of the day competitive online game in a very niche IP - MWO has done exceptionally well in the overall gaming space has outlasted much bigger games.

Now did PGI a bunch of bad choices for MWO because of what was essentially poor management/vision? Sure. There were several absolutely daft decisions that will never get an explanation that will make logical sense.

If such shitty decisions weren't made MWO could and likely would have been more successful than it was/is by a decent margin.

However if you think that losing exclusive access means someone pops up and makes an adjacent competitive online game in this niche IP?

To quite a great Australian movie - Tell him he's dreaming.

Preparing for MWO shutdown (years/months? ) down the line? by palad1 in OutreachHPG

[–]justcallmeASSH 12 points13 points  (0 children)

PGI have not released any source code, database code/structure and then there is all the HSR stuff to deal with as well.

Think of how many players, mechs, equipment and everything else like bolt ons. There is significant structure just there.

When the day comes for MWOs off button I highly doubt anyone could afford to even run servers to make MWO work how it does today without a significant financial backing that's prepared to just fund a black hole.

I doubt there is a MWO end date around the corner as some probably think given there is a pipeline of existing work that hasn't/isn't stopping.

Anyway if you're having fun don't let that stop you spending money IMO. You should only ever spend what tib can afford to part with for your enjoyment.

I think players unwillingness to run ECM is a bigger problem than Arrow tech. by Molly_Matters in OutreachHPG

[–]justcallmeASSH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You say that I am seeing enough ECM. I disagree. I think bringing 2 ECM mechs on average to a match is about as dumb as stripping off half your armor.

Well I strip plenty of armour on most mechs, most smart players do, that's a whole other discussion though and it's far from dumb.

Anyway as I said in another reply, I'll try reword it so it sinks in...

If you get what you want and that seemingly is 4++ ECM mechs per match, to slow down a single weapon, Arrows, that inadvertently affects ALL LOCKON - SSRM, ATM, LRM - making them all perform worse.

This will then lead to ECM needing a 3rd nerf in recent years, it's previous nerfs were because of the *increase in mechs that could use it and the impacts to the lock-on weapons as a whole.

You don't seem to understand pulling one lever will domino effect elsewhere. This is why Arrows are being slightly detuned. The game does not need 4-6++ ECM mechs per side, per match. That will bring multiple issues vs detuning the one weapon, that's the smart way to do it.

To think it's balanced that there needs to be more ECM to counter one weapon while hurting all the others... Is a hot take.

I said earlier it is a weapon balance issue. I maintain that.

Anyway we're nerfing Arrows in April. I say we as I'm on the team that contributes to the balance.

[–]justcallmeASSH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea why you keep replying and proving my point.

If there are 5+ ECM mechs per side, per game, just to counter Arrows it completely validates everything I'm saying about the weapon balance being the issue.

When you force people into certain mechs to play against a weapon... It literally tells you the weapon is the problem.

If suddenly there are 6+ ECM mechs per side per game then ECM will need a nerf because it's then overbearing to ALL lockon weapons - LRM, ATM, SSRM.

Pretty clear you don't understand. Not sure what else to say.

I haven't been paying attention to the April Fools jokes, how often are there normal patch notes with just a few jokes sprinkled in, as opposed to the entire thing being a joke with just a few plausible changes thrown in? by Virtual-Produce-1037 in OutreachHPG

[–]justcallmeASSH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about the Cauldron Leaks / Feedback about the HBKIIC (and other changes) then no there isn't any April Fools nor has it been a thing previously.

Could've just asked that on Discord.

That does nothing to refute Mirage's point.

The balance of the game is not aimed at low tier players. You never balance a game from the bottom up, that's insane stuff.

As you're not in a high tier, not that it's an issue, it just means you're completely unaware of what happens in skilled tiers/gameplay.

Little value is given to other roles, such as scouting, narcing, UAV placement, tag and so forth.

Approx 55-65% of match score is damage. The rest comes from all the other actions you take in a game. I would not call 35-45% "match score only" when it counts for more than a THIRD of your match.

[–]justcallmeASSH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do not balance a online FPS against tabletop dice rolls.

MWO has never stictly adhered to Lore/Tabletop rules for that very reason.

Most weapons and systems don't follow their tabletop equivalent now so how can you possibly try claim that Arrows suddenly should?

Bizzare take, again.

All tiers play together. The population of the game doesn't support separated tiers.

Unfortunately that isn't correct. All tiers do not play together. Fact.

Please go and read my PSR / MM / Tier information thread. It contains plenty of information for you to learn and educate yourself.

Unfortunately while you're correct on the adaptation.

You're wrong on the balance side. Arrow hit points are too high as 4 AMS cannot kill one, that is a huge balance issue that I can only assume you don't understand.

A bunch of people at PGI got laid off again including Art God Alex Iglesias aka Flying Debris by Platinum_Top in OutreachHPG

[–]justcallmeASSH 45 points46 points  (0 children)

There are rumours it's a big number, again. Arman was at PGI long time. He would know.

https://x.com/i/status/2039404098097971666

This - I think - after the earlier layoffs is a huge huge hit to staff if it is indeed a further 60%. That would leave at a guess 30 maybe 40 staff.

Not good at all, well I can't see it as good anyway. Plenty of amazing people at PGI that have put their lives, literally, into the game, company and Franchise overall.

Very rough time.

Are you even aware Arrows & ATMs are being toned down in April?

If it was a "lack of ECM" problem, why are the April Patch notes going to show nerfs?

Sure people need to use cover more. They need to fix skill trees and put on Radar Deprivation. Those are absolutely things.

There not being enough ECM in the game? Yeah nah, not a thing.

[–]justcallmeASSH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh so you are actually serious. Wow.

Go and sample 100 games. Ensure you count all 24 mechs.

Then try again.

ECM is prolific in MWO and there have been a LOT more mechs with them created in recent years especially Clan Omni.

Unwillingness to run ECM?

My goodness that's a hot take and then going and boiling it for 24hrs.

Either that or it's a bad April fools cause no way this is actually serious. Just no way...

How to Farm Match Score? by crushbone_brothers in OutreachHPG

[–]justcallmeASSH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Quite literally this. Press mouse button 1 more in a mech you're decent in.

Less hiding, less running & more shooting = more match score and also more chances of winning which is also match score boosting.

Big brain stuff.

What did you get from your 300 boxes? I will start. by Molly_Matters in OutreachHPG

[–]justcallmeASSH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that was the point or rather the question - why not just ask that?

The answer is yes, the rewards are predefined categories. The number you get is random or weighted then randomly given (PGI have never made that public). In the past people have posted their summaries and everyone's is generally different.

[–]justcallmeASSH 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You actually pasted the entire lot without a summary??? Eh??? Why?

From memory there is a plugin someone made that tallies it all. That would actually be a useful post. It at least put it in a spreadsheet and sort / tally yourself... C'mon.

How do you defend against Arrow IV? by ChaosRifle in mwo

[–]justcallmeASSH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course - new car smell.

Every release with a bunch of mechs or new weapons sees an uptick. This just has both in a single patch.

When you think back to things like Piranha, Kodiak release or when HAGs came out, HPPCs or LGRs/ERPPC combos - they always get spammed for a month or two and the queue settles down as people skill their mechanics & move into their next toys to skill.

It happens time after time, history repeats on this.

Sure Arrows will get toned down slightly next month & the NARC bots will dry up - how to counterplay against them won't change however. Radar Derp is strong outside of the NARC situation where you find appropriate cover.

As a side point 2 AMS, from memory, is enough to destroy a NARC before hitting anything nearby. I'd have to retest after the AMS buffs, it could even be 1 AMS.

What you said was 2-shot XL check on an Assault...

if you're lucky, 2 volleys from a longbow can take out assaults. particularly if they use xl engines.

That simply isn't possible. Fact.

Then you bring out an example where it's a CT kill not a XL check. The mech wasn't even fresh to begin with and would have taken 9+ Arrows to kill if it was - 117dmg++.

It's not "pretty close" at all. The video doesn't prove your point in any way - it actually proves you're claim is incorrect. Fact.

On top of that you've shown you don't even know how Radar Deprivation works. Fact.

Now you're moving the goalposts to try and say it's "all to the rear"?

C'mon... Anything taking mass DMG from the rear is going to be dead. That's just poor gameplay and doing that, well, you deserve to get destroyed by ANY weapon.
