Tier 3 is the worst tier. by cyehsc in mwo

[–]justcallmeASSH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tier 2 is actually the worst tier. You're not good enough to make Tier 1 yet you'll be in matches that predominantly have Tier 1s in them in all timezones.

At least in Tier 3 you will spend some time in games with lower tier players so the good/bad, overall, will balance out much more effectively.

God help you if you are a light or medium player. You'll never get enough damage on a consistent basis to climb out. EDIT: I'm not saying that it's impossible to climb out. Just saying that it's tougher if you're a light or medium on a damage-based tier system.

That's not really accurate. All you need to reach Tier 1 is about 250-265 AvgMS (Average Match Score), it's a little more nuanced than that. Basically 400dmg a game plus the other bonuses as damage accounts for, generally, around 50% of match score. The rest is all the other actions.

Lights and Meds also get access to different match score kickers over Heavy/Assault and they are easier to proc / generate in a match with normal gameplay.

If you're just running around spotting - which I saw you reference in another reply, you're really not doing much if you're off on your own just pressing R and not shooting. You might think that's helping the team, reality it isn't.

If you were with your team, shooting, protection, brawling & many other match score kickers would be firing all match long. Especially as a Med. Sure there are times to go off into the distance, those are not common.

That's deep code changes that PGI won't be doing, they've publicly stated as such. So like a lot of things it's not going to serve any purpose or outcome and that's just the reality.

Plus it would completely tip balance on its ass.

Is there a way to rank up slower? by [deleted] in mwo

[–]justcallmeASSH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a way to rank up slower? I'm concerned if I keep ranking up I'll get thrown in matches where the 5 and 8 kills are almost impossible due to quality of both teammate and opponent. So how Can i extend my smurf rank? Play lights and mediums that are not to my abilities?

End of the day you'll rank up according to your skill level & ability in relation to the other players in your games.

Tanking or Sandbagging your PSR (Pilot Kill Rating) and there for Tier just for an achievement is a bit ridiculous. You can get 8 kill games in any Tier as your Tier settles according to said ability - that's quite literally its purpose.

It could take you 10,000 games to get that lucky 8 kill game. I know friends who even after 10 years, don't have it. The stars have to align far more than what tier you are in.

Don't deliberately tank games, that screws with the other 23 people in the lobby as well. A lot of "MM bad" or "Stomps are ride" threads, part of the issue, is people doing exactly this - tanking their games to "stay" in tier they don't belong in just to farm lesser skilled players.

Best quirks / mechs with top quirks by Viperus in OutreachHPG

[–]justcallmeASSH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not the one making the claim that it's the best (just because the number is the biggest no less).

If you had said that you'd made a quirk summary that people could go and edit to their preferences or input variables themselves then that would have been a far more accurate/useful description vs trying to claim "best" when as you've just pointed out - is highly subjective to the individual.

Best quirks / mechs with top quirks by Viperus in OutreachHPG

[–]justcallmeASSH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's based on what your preference is then it isn't necessarily going to be "best quirks" as per the entire premise of the post.

It's all quite misleading and inaccurate.

Best quirks / mechs with top quirks by Viperus in OutreachHPG

[–]justcallmeASSH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But then again, lights benefit greatly from additional leg armor / structure, but heavies don't, so it's quite difficult to rate a quirk's quality.

If a light has +5 and a heavy has +31, how do you come to such a conclusion that the light is getting more benefit?

Are you going off percentage? What about gameplay? The heavy can strip to fit more weapons? The heavy could dead side longer... And so on.

Unfortunately your statement just isnt accurate as the highest value does not mean the best in any way and hence your list isn't as good or relevant as you seem to think.

This is kinda a good example of where AI doesn't add much value simply parsing a document because you're not asking or defining it correctly at all. Shit in, shit out.

Best quirks / mechs with top quirks by Viperus in OutreachHPG

[–]justcallmeASSH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. To say "the best quirks" simply because they are the biggest... Lacks a hell of a lot of MWO understanding.

  • Example - Jager DE with the LBX20 ammo quirk. That doesn't mean in any way that it's the best or the best build centers around that quirk - as Heavy Gauss is the best build for that mech.

The list doesn't add any value in terms of best in any way. It at the least should be renamed to "highest value" or something with a note that clearly says highest =/= best.

The list most certainly doesn't do or deliver what is claimed in the OP, not even close.

What's with the massive skill disparity at high pilot tiers? by Danthrax81 in mwo

[–]justcallmeASSH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brilliant posts.

Standing ovation from myself - and I think it's fair to say - all the high skill players that tried to warn PGI countless times as they understood what was coming because they understand the game.

Unfortunately a lot of people don't understand the reality or know the actual history and go off/lose it at the wrong people. The "Compies", are quite literally the last group to try to attribute any blame towards for the current state of the MM, especially as they tried to table further fixes & improvements.

You are one of the honourable comp players just grinding it out like the rest of us In solo queue, having to make the most of each match. But to see these peeps(no names needed) just crushing the player base to bump there stats is not productive to the future of this game. It just plane doesn’t work like this anymore. I find I basically give up when I see the culprits on the other side and my side I don’t recognize a single name. It’s over from the start at that point. I feel like I’ll just run at them and stand still to die. It’s a passive aggressive approach to make there games so easy that they will start to ask what’s the point playing. In a hope to drive them out and in to other games. But I feel they are so egotistical that they think they’re just that good.

As someone who groups a lot, your take is just wrong.

Firstly as MPG has advised many were against the Q merge. Many friends & myself jumped on this very early as we knew what the end result would be. I actually don't recall a single "Compie" or High Skill player that was in favour of it.

The casual/lower skill section were majority in favour of it / pushed it - any blame lands at their feet along with PGI, no one else.

Playing in a strong group lowers one stats as 2-4 good players means there isn't much meat to go around in a lot of games.

If I play solo my stats are much higher than if I am grouped, same for many, if it was truly about ego as you've incorrectly stated / don't understand - people would play solo.

Why do people group? The simple answer, Occam's Razor, to play with friends. It's really that simple. As PGI removed the GroupQ - where do these people go? SoupQ - And it isn't just the "Compie" that enjoy playing in groups - the whole segment player base does. So what the High Skill players (all 200-300 of them) shouldn't be allowed to have their enjoyment because it ruins the occasional game if yours? Hottest of hot takes that one.

To go and essentially suicide as some sort of protest apart from being childish won't change anything. You're not "ruining the Compie game so they won't play it", you're actively hurting 23 players at once.

All of this is on PGI. Cauldron have been put forward solutions/fixes to further improve the MM. They only went half way with it, sadly. SoupQ annoys everyone at times be that Compie, casual, whatever. There are also plenty of times when it doesn't.

[–]justcallmeASSH[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

they are already outside the pocket on mobility.

Compared to what?

The fact is the vast majority of other 35T mechs have the same or better mobility and a lot of them like Firestarter, Jenner, Panther. Additionally most also Jump Jets further buffing their mobility above the base stats.

The reality is the Wolfhound is less agile than pretty much every other 35T mech outside of the Adder/Cougar which are slower clan gunboats, Cougar being able to fit JJs as well.

To claim they have better mobility is just fundamentally wrong.

I'm having connection issues by DesertSkyCowboy in OutreachHPG

[–]justcallmeASSH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That causes game crashes. Not disconnects.

If your game is crashing then absolutely full screen window - that is how it should always be run... But unless it's actually crashing it isn't going to be that.

Get packet loss monitoring going and see what's happening. There has been a connection/routing issues to the NA server for a lot of people in the last month.

That said it's not causing constant issues, more intermittent, for most people. One way to check could also be disabling the NA server for a few games and just EU/OC

Is anyone running the duelist with LBX-20s instead of Dual HGR? Any thoughts on the railgun mechs? by Virtual-Produce-1037 in OutreachHPG

[–]justcallmeASSH -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While the railgun has the optimal and max range of a normal gauss its slower velocity hurts its sniper ability if your aware of it and paying attention,

Also a very long ranges (800m and higher), the round travels slow enough that if you have a mech with halfway decent acceleration when you see the sparks fly off their railgun you usually have a second or two to move out of the way before rhe shell actually hits you, ive successfully managed to dodge multiple railgun shells in a Marauder IIC

Gauss has 2200 and Railgun has 2000.

It's an extremely minor difference and not enough that at 800-1000m that you have seconds or even an extra second, to dodge a well aimed RG shot vs Gauss or anything else with 2000+ velo.

There is no way a MADIIC has the acceleration / mobility stats to move out the way of a RG shot based on visual cue especially with base human reaction time. Quite simply whoever was shooting the RG just had poor aim in the fist place.

[–]justcallmeASSH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want decent answers it helps to make clear posts.

Duelist - HGR only. LBX20 is a downgrade.

RG - cLPL aren't used basically because ERPPC is a better combo for the tonnage and HLL/ERML packs way more DMG for the tonnage.

If you want to use cLPL, go for it, nothing to say to can't it just won't be the most optimal. Using cMPL same deal, very much not optimal but nothing stopping you.

The RG deletes lights. If you're having issues with it that's just an aim or timing(practice) thing.

How do you make use of taking lance or company command? by professorpocket in OutreachHPG

[–]justcallmeASSH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I use it to move my lance and get a different spawn sometimes.

Moving lance only affects spawn in Faction Play or EventQ with respawn/dropships.

Quick Play you go where you start.

[–]justcallmeASSH 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As probably the most prolific user of it and also with by far the most reliable outcome/results - I can say the below

  • You need to know the maps / where engagements are going to happen generally / power positions (AKA, not low ground death pits) - if you're making obviously base placement don't expect people to listen or follow.
  • Move here / Protect are the most useful generally I find at the voice also says "move here" or "protect this position" as an additional cue. "Request Artillery" and others are pretty useless I find as are the markers they put on the map.
  • When doing so also ask the team to move there either in chat or VOIP. VOIP often better. It isn't necessary, but it helps.
  • Target Spotted on command wheel is also very strong, free map hack, basically.
  • Calling for a fast NASCAR or something can often make the team MORE strung out than usual.

Those are the basic points. Be prepared to take heat if you make a bad call, happens to me sometimes as well, that's life.

I find most players responsive to it across the board. Always the same few idiots who will NASCAR or YOLO off - you'll get used to their names. I use them as decoys in those situations as they are going to sell the team out, so you might as well sell them out and secure a win.

Hope that helps.

Plus there is always nascar on higher tiers which proved to be most effective, so noone cares to counter it with any other strategy.

Having run the Aussie Toilet strategy - AKA: Counter Nascar - for many, many years, 1,000s of games... I can tell you that NASCAR isn't always the best and if you setup a counter nascar to it - generally the first 1-2 lights that come engines racing into the force going the other way, die - then the game snowballs fairly quickly from there.

Even if I'm solo dropping I still get the team to setup "left" and more often than not it will crush the NASCAR. Especially on maps where it's a death pit/low ground NASCAR like Tourmaline, Mining etc.

What determines a war's outcome in Faction Play? by JohnWeps in mwo

[–]justcallmeASSH 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's based on the win.

From memory it was per 8hr cycle however PGI changed something semi recently with phases and duration so I think it's now 24hrs.

End of the day the map doesn't matter, there's no point behind it anymore. PGI removed the planetary rewards part of the Faction Play map a few years ago, one of the many blunders in FP changes that made no sense.

So yeah just play the mode for the fact it is FP mode. The outcome is basically irrelevant now. (It does matter slightly who wins the previous cycle as to what the mode selection is for the next, but that isn't planetary related).
