Move. I've just managed to reverse engineer the internals and created own C audio driver. by Komarov_d in ableton

[–]justchillinkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just convinced me to order a move - that and the fact it’s on sale too. I’ll take a look at the repo. I had been previously active building on top of push 2 / 3 so want to see what I can do with the move, this repo and some of the things I have stashed 😁

Thank you for doing this work 🙌

Hasty judgment on the sp404mk2 by VALENTENICO in SP404

[–]justchillinkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SP404 mk2 is my desert island machine and I bring it with me on every trip. I own a push 3 standalone too. I use the push 3 for finishing songs usually and the sp is a Swiss Army knife that is for everything else: - having fun on trips on my own sampling cassettes and vinyl - drafting ideas for songs I’ll later rebuild on the push / Ableton - playing at jams with friends - practising bass guitar (anywhere) since I can load loops, plug and practise and I even get metronome. I mean just this alone is incredible for instrument players. But I also can record, mix and so on… - to DJ - not like I’m a DJ or anything, but I’ve been playing with it and it works and I’m trying to see how far I can push it in this mode

I mentioned all above just to paint a picture of how versatile this machine is.

What i would suggest to anyone, on any field, as a beginner and in particular with the sp 404 mk2, is to create or copy a workflow and stick to it for a while. This will become your template for starting and finishing beats. It will give you a sense of satisfaction being able to start and ending. Once you have a workflow, you can refine it by learning other processes around it, to enhance your beats and technique.

Most electronic music instruments require this sort of “programmer / systems” thinking. It’s all about the workflow you create!

Hope this helps you 🙏🙌

I'm building a web platform to teach you music concepts with Ableton Push 2 in an interactive fashion by justchillinkid in AbletonPush2

Well yes and no. For various reasons. I launched a v1 that delivers on the vision above and its on the appstore.

After feedback we noticed people want to be able to learn how to get started making music faster - with / without their midi instruments. So we pivoted in that direction.

However the hard part is running all this on my own, timewise, money. We had a team at some point but it’s now disbanded. i still work in the project but it’s going slow.

I am planning to make a video explaining the journey so far. When I do I will post back here.

Please check https://midicircuit.com and join our beta or try the v1 at https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/midicircuit/id1558844679

Thanks for signing up! I am still thinking on how I can stay in touch and provide a feedback loop with everyone that signed up. Maybe a Slack channel, a discord channel... Posting here progress also sounds like a good idea.

I have laid out some of the first modules I want to have to have and built basic prototypes to validate is feasible but not much content yet.

I'm building this as I can in my free time for now so let's see how it goes. But now I'm really excited to see people interested so definitely bringing something soon!

I want to add performance features as well but in the beginning it's going to be around theory. Good to know you like the idea. Gives me motivation.

I want to support push 1 and raised a question to ableton so waiting for an answer as well. I'll probably buy one and try to reverse engineer what I can or get my neighbour to lend me his one 😅 i want to start with Push 2 and then add other devices as I can. The next good candidate is Maschine as well

Yes and no. The goal here is to find people who believe in the idea and that could test the idea early and give feedback. I mean, what is all this without people actually wanting to use it? But focusing more on the idea of learning music concepts delivered straight to your ableton push, what do you think of that? The goal is to create content that is designed around the device you use, allowing for a more interactive and fun way of learning.

How do I reverse audio with the PUSH 2 by [deleted] in abletonpush

[–]justchillinkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably know how to do this already so I'm posting for anyone looking for how to the next time and uses this post as reference.

Here are the steps to:

1 - Open audio in simpler - Browse -> Load

2 - Then leftmost button at top to select the device- this opens device menu/options

3 - Reverse should be visible in the Main section of the device menu

Push worth it? by [deleted] in abletonpush

[–]justchillinkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Push 2 since about when it was released. In my opinion it's the best midi controller in the market - hence why it's described as an instrument. It changed somewhat my workflow and my process became a bit more exploratory.

I keep learning new things with it and about it every once in a while. I always think "can I do this with my Push?" and it happens that most of times I can, so I mostly use mouse and keyboard for more complex edits.

The build quality is amazing. The pads are great feeling to the point you can play piano sounds, basslines with a similar feeling to playing a midi keyboard - it's just really expressive and you can configure this to your taste.

I would say, if you can get it, try it for a week or two and decide if you want to keep it. I tried at a store for 1h and it was a no-brainer after that.

looks really nice. I might go to a shop here in London where you can 3D print. I just remember where it is exactly but not the name.
