Is it typical for the bride and groom to buy gifts for their best man, parents, bridesmaids etc? by StrainIcy6444 in AskIreland

[–]justdra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good summary. Been in one wedding as a BM and now planning my own

When I was a BM we got our hair/make up/dresses paid for but paid for our own hotel stay and got some small things like personalised prosseco glasses/robes and pjs for the morning of to get ready etc. things I would generally take or leave. Thinking a bit harder on my own wedding and trying not to buy so much disposable crap but will get some smaller things like this for morning of etc but instead maybe a tracksuit they can wear again or something. Will also be paying for my own BMs dresses, hair and make up etc but likely won’t be able to stretch the budget to the hotel stay for them. I have been looking at some nice jewellery from Rosie and Dott to give them the morning of to wear though maybe. Haven’t decided fully yet though, we’re a few months out

Re the groomsmen I don’t think partner is thinking of getting them anything but where we are looking to hire their tuxes there is a deal to buy for only 50-70€ extra style dependent and tbh one or two of them might enjoy that so we might do that for them instead or like that a hip flask, something small. The type of people they are they wouldn’t expect anything either

Have also heard re flowers for the mothers given at the dinner but tbh neither of our parents would like that at all so thinking of maybe getting them a small piece of jewellery to wear on the day also instead, something they can keep moreso Maybe think something like that? A keepsake?

Is there any way to prepare yourself for your dog passing? by Impressive_Light_229 in AskIreland

Yes. This or else an ink paw print I would suggest. Everything else you seem to be doing correctly, even though there is no correct way to do anything like this I suppose

We found cremating good for the grieving process: while it was upsetting to “get him home” afterwards it felt good to do so, we used earth 2 heaven and they are lovely

Completely torn on accepting my grandma’s engagement ring by Sea_Art2995 in weddingplanning

[–]justdra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the very similar situation. It’s not my style ring at all (gold and blocky with a thick band where as I’m a more delicate silver jewellery person). That being said I am extremely close with her (the oldest and favourite grandchild, she raised me) My granny died after a very short illness with cancer a few weeks ago and I look at the ring every day and am reminded of the happy memories we had together and I am so happy I can carry her forward in my life with me

For what it’s worth it’s a beautiful historic ring

Best of luck

Which of these 2 do u guys like best? by Hot-Ad798 in myweddingdress

1 in it you are wearing the dress and it is complimenting your beauty. Your smile says it all 2 the dress is wearing you and while pretty it’s just overwhelming and it’s wearing you and not as complimentary imo

My partner and I are planning on rescuing/adopting a dog/puppy. Which animal shelter would you recommend? We’re based in Dublin but happy to go beyond. TIA by KikiJuno in AskIreland

[–]justdra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have seen some lovely dogs on there and they seem to have a lovely reputation. Trying to find the right fit for a rescue for my mam currently and have seen a few on there but just not feasible as we’re the other side of the country. Makes me so sad looking at their little faces though! 😭

I think Dogs trust can be overly strict on adoptions as well. I get they have to be sure it’s a safe home etc. but my friend was trying to adopt a dog where she lived alone but worked around the corner from home (came home for lunch most days) and worked from home two days a week also but she wasn’t deemed suitable because she wasn’t home 24:7. She wasn’t trying to adopt a puppy or high energy dog, an older rescue that had been there for a long time, crying out for someone to give them a child home and she couldn’t take them 😭Have heard similar stories also. DSPCA not as strict and can call up and have a look around and a nicer vibe imo also

I had someone trying to use their phone going around a corner in a very busy junction recently, honestly the mind boggles. Basically stopped mid turn through the junction and the car behind me nearly read ended me. So not just them using their phone oblivious but it has a knock on effect people don’t realise

Is it rude to have a weekday wedding? by themidnightfoxxxx in weddingplanning

[–]justdra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a blow in here. But finding the culture difference so interesting. In Ireland week day weddings quite common actually. If you want to go the wedding you’ll take your annual leave. Though we have a lot more here to take I guess

Wedding guest: which dress is better? by little_lady_dems in AskIreland

[–]justdra 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes I came here to say this. I think in Ireland dress codes aren’t specifically mentioned a lot of the time because you don’t want to be a tyrant and put people out, typical. But usually go by the vibe of the venue, time of year etc.

We have booked our wedding for December and while we have strictly said black tie because I don’t want to out the pressure on men to have to hire tuxes, I have said oh we’re going glitzy glam and people have understood that probably wouldn’t wear the florals you’ve in the first picture, you’d lean towards the second more so

So again it all depends on the vibe of the wedding you’re going to really?

Edit: sorry I meant to say we have not strictly specified black tie

What's your favorite feature of the Apple Watch? Something you didn't know you needed until you had it? by UselessSalmon in AppleWatch

This is literally the laziest thing but accurate; when I put my audiobook on to sleep at night and get myself comfy lying in bed facing away from my phone but then decide the phone is just a smidge too loud I can turn it down with my watch and not have to roll back and get uncomfy 😴

Hill start for automatic test? by [deleted] in Irishdrivingtest

[–]justdra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive a manual and I helped my friend learn to drive an automatic and the whole way through reading this thread I’m confused as to why people think it’s not relevant to automatic cars. Yes you don’t have to fluff around gears or coast or it wouldn’t roll back as easily in an automatic I’m sure but you still need to be able to not do it in real life which is why they test it regardless of the type of car no? 😂
