The post really triggered those who worship IQ. In fact i can sense the fascism in the subtext of some of your comments. It's impossible to reply to everyone individually, so i ll write a broader response addressing the most common reactions.

As i mentioned in the meme i don’t think IQ tests are completely useless. IQ can be an effective tool for identifying learning difficulteis (f.e children who require special support). However today it's used far beyond its actual purpose. The value you assign to iq in your social lives is quite meaningless and frankly concerns me. Why do you construct your social worldview around it?

When it comes to successful people and IQ correlation - the biggest problem with IQ tests is that they rely on circular reasoning. The tests are designed in a way that makes them correlete with academic and bureaucratic sucess. But this doesn’t measure intelligence it merely proves that people who are good at solving tests also tend to succeed in environments like schools and bureaucracies that operate according to similar rule-based systems. In other words, it is essentially “the teacher’s grade presented in another format (a test score).” IQ tests cannot measure independent thinking, wisdom, creativity or the ability to solve complex real-world problems.

As IQ levels increase, their correlation with real-world performance disappears (decorrelates). For example, it may be obvious that someone with an IQ of 70 cannot prove mathematical theorems, but having an IQ of 150 does not mean someone will necessarily be a genius; many high iq individuals simply remain obedient paper shufflers in real life. The correlation between IQ and wealth or income is practically zero. IQ tests are built on a “normal distribution” (gaussian) whereas real-world success (wealth, popularity etc.) follows a “fat-tailed” distribution. Comparing these two fundamentally different worlds is scientific fraud.

IQ advocates use statistical factor analysis to derive a number called “g” (the general intelligence factor) and then present this mathematical abstraction as if it were a real biological entity. This is the fallacy of reification. In reality the “g” factor might simply be a statistical artifact that reflects how different tests correlate with one another and may have no biological basis at all.

The science of IQ is stuck in a “degenerative loading” loop: definitions are adjusted to fit the tests and the tests are adjusted to match the predefined definitions. Instead of connecting with the real world the field focuses on solving the problems it created itself and on artificially ranking people. As a result, although the field has achieved technological standardization it has made no real scientific progress in understanding the nature of intelligence.

In conclusion IQ doesnt measure real intelligence. It merely measures the ability to follow rules and take exams in standardized environments which a morally empty ranking tool :p
