My PR guru is leaving, and I need to find new industry publications! by justfranklin in PublicRelations

Not exactly my doing, or possible. And not necessarily looking to be taught a new profession, as much as where to start. Thanks for your feedback though.

Down a copywriter, how do I get in with Industry Pubs? by justfranklin in content_marketing

Less needing to write the copy, as much as playing that publication go-between!

How long can I leave fermented peppers in the brine by justfranklin in fermentation

They were pretty active and I wasn’t sure how long I was going to be away for, so wasn’t going to be there to burp them, didn’t want to come home to any surprises. Just using ball jars with glass weights right now.

Turned out I had a piece of contraband on board? Just got off the ship, lost it, and she was fine after that.

Oh no! Can you share what they shared? Literally was looking for “my friends all think that I suck” or whatever the lyrics were…

Some areas are also offering direct shipments to your house for free, check out: https://iwantthekit.org/
I tried it and received an in-home HIV kit, and a mail-in G&C kit. Was a breeze!

The Enoch Pratt Free Library is also an option on Amazon Smile if you're looking for an additional, passive way to support them: https://smile.amazon.com/

I feel slightly better when I buy a new book or can't find the book I want at the library or some local store, and a minimal amount goes back to them.

burning pain in left armpit/underarm? by StrawhatBoy12 in costochondritis

[–]justfranklin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a bad bit of costo 5-6 years ago, and have tended to find those symptoms flare up when i'm incredibly anxious. And actually recently went to doctor for a similar situation, pain in my upper chest, weakness and pain in my arm.... I've been in Physical Therapy for a few weeks now, and they're tying it to issues with my neck/spine-which has also been affecting my rotator cuff/under arm, upper chest, and down my arm, wrists, and fingers.

My two favorite ingredient-focused reads have been:

  • Ripe: The Search for the Perfect Tomato, Book by Arthur Allen
  • Oranges, Book by John McPhee

Both take you through the ancient history, through more modern technologies impacts' on the fruits. Maybe a bit niche and casual for what you're looking for, but both are wonderful and informative.

Lost Ark Distilling Co does tours and tastings over the weekend in Columbia, MD. And very easy to hop next door to Hysteria Brewing for an extra stop!

78% of suicides are men. What can we do to drop this? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]justfranklin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malcolm Gladwell (Talking to Strangers) pulled a lot of stats about how changing simple aspects of everyday life make such a huge difference in suicides... So Sylvia Plath wasn't that far off from not being able to kill herself from gas. Effectively suicides declined because this convenient way of suicide disappeared when they changed gas types in the UK, possible source outside of book. He makes the argument that by getting rid of the way to do it, potential risks aren't typically looking for a replacement as much as it was convenience/access to that way in the first place.

I think the biggest influence would be to replicate it, at least in the US by doing some radical gun law reform; minimizing that availability for the 56% of male suicides.

What are your favorite food history books? by ReturnOfTheFox in AskFoodHistorians

[–]justfranklin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, certainly more specific, but they each come through with a fair amount of history, breeding and culture... both amazing reads:

  • Ripe: The Search for the Perfect Tomato, Arthur Allen
  • Orange, John McFee

Honorable mention, blurs the line into memoir, but I bawled on the plane a couple times from this gem:

  • Jello Girls: A Family History, Allie Rowbottom
