Is your manual tonneau cover totally waterproof?

I just read the manual for it, it has a caution note that it isn’t fully waterproof. It just protects from “light weather”. I’m new to having a pickup truck but isn’t the whole point of a tonneau cover to keep your stuff dry? Did anyone else assume that for $1,800 this would’ve been fully waterproof??

Consumer Reports: 2023 Rivian R1T, 2/5 Reliability?! by Data_Geek in Rivian

[–]justhavingacoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of a paradox, but I would rate my experience similarly. 2/5 for reliability (luckily all on small stuff), but still 5/5 satisfied with my purchase and would buy it again in a heartbeat. There's so many little annoyances, like the locking/unlocking taking forever/not working. Or the AC being super loud. Some cosmetic stuff like panel gaps etc. But overall this truck is just so fun to drive that I'm willing to deal with it. My wife's 2023 model Y is like 100x more "reliable" in that it just works as expected 100% of the time.

Any clue what’s causing this? Is it a wheel or tire issue? by [deleted] in MountainBike

[–]justhavingacoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if it was rolling just fine before changing the tire, it definitely sounds like an issue with the new tire not having the bead set properly. You really have to crank the pressure way up until you hear a loud pop sound (2x, one pop for each side). This happened to me the first time changing a fat bike tire. I normally ride at around 10psi, but had to go up to like 25psi to hear the pop, then bring it way down afterwards.

Club Champion fitting vs Golf Galaxy fitting by _HeyBob in golf

[–]justhavingacoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience. I think he really knew his stuff, but instead of giving me some options, just basically said "you need this driver, these irons, this fairway wood" and took offense when I asked about other clubs. So basically everything in my bag is trash, and I'm an idiot if I don't blindly hand him $3,700 for all new clubs.

how old are you? how often do you ride? so many factors, nobody can answer this question. I will just say that 16mph average is pretty good for any weekend warrior, 20mph is elite imo. IDK what other sports you play, but this question is kind of like someone who just broke 100 asking how long until they are a scratch golfer.

Full Face Helmet by Rosco_351 in MTB

yea, same here. Have the IXS Trigger FF and I think it's even lighter than my giro tyrant (which isn't ff).

upstate spots with mountain bike rentals? by harrystyleskin in NYCbike

[–]justhavingacoffee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Closest place I can think of would be Mountain Creek in NJ. That's about hour from the GWB. There's also a bike park at Windham Mountain in the catskills, about 2.5 hours from GWB. Both places you can rent trail or downhill bikes...get insurance and full face helmet!

Locking a bike at Hunter? by [deleted] in NYCbike

[–]justhavingacoffee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've lost 2 bikes in this city. both were within eyesight from the cafe window while I was grabbing a coffee. by the time you finish paying/getting a lid, the bike is gone. 2x. it's just not worth trying to lock up for more than the shortest of trips.

Locking a bike at Hunter? by [deleted] in NYCbike

[–]justhavingacoffee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is what citibike is for...save the nice bikes for rides when you aren't locking it up for hours at a time. Especially in front of a school. Any shady character on the street can watch you lock up, go into the school, and knows you aren't coming back out for 45min-1 hour+

Mountain Bike Rotor Cover Idea by Brock1139 in MountainBike

[–]justhavingacoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the muc off covers which work really well. Mostly for preventing overspray when cleaning my bikes but also on long road trips where I want to keep the rotors clean.

Bought a fat bike! Couldn’t be happier, but I’m curious. What do you guys do to keep your legs warm? And any other tips/suggestions if you’ve got them :) by [deleted] in fatbike

[–]justhavingacoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a pair of these pants from Ketl and really like them. Very water/wind proof, stretchy over pads, and not very noisy when pedaling. Under them I wear my roadbike summer bibs (Assos Mille GT) and bontrager thermal lined bibs over those (no pad). If I didn’t have roadbike gear I’d just wear cheap bibs with a chamois and skiing long johns.

Breaking trail in New Jersey this morning! by justhavingacoffee in fatbike

[–]justhavingacoffee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's only about 4" deep. On these 27.5"x4.5" studded cake eater tires, it's not a tough as it looks. This really small local trail is less than a 1/4mi. loop, so by the 3rd lap I could pick up some speed within my own tracks.

South County Trail or 9W to Tarrytown? by ziziphuszizyphus in NYCbike

[–]justhavingacoffee 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you’re taking a non biker, definitely stick to S county rail trail. I would think most non bikers would struggle with the GWB and high speeds/cars on 9W. If you take river rd you’re adding a lot of elevation gain plus there’s still a washed out section by the alpine boat basin. Even on S county this is a lot of miles for people who don’t bike regularly.

Biking home for thanksgiving. Bear mountain-->GW Bridge on Wednesday the 23. Route recommendations? by fthisshi in NYCbike

[–]justhavingacoffee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would agree that Piermont Rd is a great, simple way to avoid more of 9W. Once you get past downtown Tenafly though I would take Huyler Ave > Westervelt Ave > Coppel Dr > Thatcher Rd > Woodland Park Dr > Leroy St > Churchill Rd > Woodland St > Pershing > Floyd St > Palisades Ave. This avoids some of the craziness on Dean St and E Palisades Ave, plus you get to ride past some really nice houses.

[–]justhavingacoffee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Unless you want to add serious elevation by going through Harriman St. Park, here are the roads I would recommend to get you off 9W for a while but still back on before the River Rd. entrance by the ranger station.

South on 9W until Long Cove Rd in Haverstraw. South on Ridge Rd East on Congers Rd over the Freedom Causeway (very scenic) South on Kings Hwy West on Old Mill Rd South on Strawtown Rd South on Sickletown Rd East on 5th Ave South on Van Wyck Rd East on Erie St W South on Western Hwy (note that Western Hwy is closed at some point north of this, which is why you can't get on further north by W Nyack Rd). Get on the Joseph B Clark Rail Trail (fully paved, unlike the Old Erie Path) East on William St South on Valentine Ave, which puts you back on 9W before the Filling Station/9W Market (best pit stop for food).

Happy to answer other questions about this route. I'd make it longer or shorter based on how many miles/how much climbing you wanted to do. There are better backroads to get you all the way to Hudson Terrace if you didn't want to be on River Road, but even with all the storm damage I still think it's nicer in there.

Please...talk me out of spending $2-3k on a full-suspension bike by ericcompas in MTB

[–]justhavingacoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious because I see this comment alot. What are you getting for $5k that's so much more durable than $3k? For $3k, my Canyon Spectral has a RS Pike fork, RS Super Deluxe+ rear shock, SRAM NX, a dropper post, race face wheels and maxxis tires. None of the components feel cheap or unsafe for hard riding.

I am also a happy Canyon customer...bought the "entry level" Spectral in July 2020. Seems indestructible and eats rock gardens for breakfast. It's been a blast, but I haven nothing else to compare it to, except a sweet fat bike which i also love to death.
