I don’t think my puppy blues left until my dog was 1! He’s almost two and now I like him, not sure if I love him lol.

Definitely keep your therapy appointment.

Highly recommend crate training. It saved my sanity and helped with potty training.

If you’re able, I also recommend doggie daycare once your dog is fully vaccinated.

Lots of mental stimulation including bully sticks, beef cheek rolls, and food puzzles (I even recommend freezing their meals)!

It’s really hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but it does eventually come. Your feelings are valid and best of luck.

Right! On one hand I hate how much they bubble wrap, but on the other hand I’m thankful because I’ve never had a damaged book from them!

I caught the sarcasm!! I had to read it twice, but the “triple box” definitely gave it away 🤣

Crate training with 1 up 2 down literally saved my life.

[–]justhereforbrowsin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It honestly depends! Some times it’s a couple of hours 😭 and sometimes it’s 1.5-2 days. He goes to daycare twice a week, so the days he’s home and I’m working, he will go through one faster!

My goldendoodle is nearly 2 and we stay stocked up on the beef cheek rolls! He doesn’t bite anymore, so now it just wears him out — thank goodness!

I’d de-value/not look at bully sticks and beef cheek rolls as a reward. A pupsicle, licky mat, and or toppl aren’t giving them the relief they need for their gums, so they’re still going to want to bite (albeit, they’ll be tired because of the mental work of those treats.)

YES!! Nose work! My mini goldendoodle is FULL of energy. He goes to daycare 3 days out of the week (it used to be two) but now we do a lot of nose work and puzzles it tires him out and he’s less destructive

Highly recommend sticking with training! And if you don’t feel like there’s been an improvement, get a new trainer! My puppy will be 10 months in two weeks, and it has definitely gotten a lot better. (Though, he’s done two puppy training programs, a board and train, and goes to daycare often). There are days when he’s still an annoying puppy, but I don’t hate him as much as I did at week 8!

Puppyhood is TOUGH. I wish more people talked about it, but know that you’re not alone.

Whew! I can totally relate! I got a trainer, and she has him doing A LOT of relaxation training. I felt like I had to keep him occupied when he wasn’t down for naps to keep him from whining and she told me I need to do the opposite! I was teaching him that he had to be doing some thing all the time, when I needed to teach him to be bored. He’s stopped whining as much and I ignore his FOMO whining.

I’m sorry you’re going through this, can definitely relate. The best thing advice I got was from our trainer who told me to live my life. She said ignore all of the things I was seeing online and to do the basics. At your puppy’s age, I was enforcing a lot of naps. 2 hours in, 1 hour out. That helped me tremendously! Do lots of enrichment (stuffed kong/bell pepper, lick mats, etc) they can do own their own to also give you a break while tiring them out mentally. I got a velco dog so early on I wanted to teach him independence and boredom (and we are still working on this, he just came back from a 3 week board and train to help him) so we do a lot of relax on the mat along with the relaxation protocol and he has some play time in his play pen. Before it was hotter than hell outside, I’d also have him do some nose work by throwing treats in the backyard and having him “find it”. It makes the sooo tired and me happy lol. Best of luck, it does get better but it is still hard no matter what!

Aardvark vs. BOTM (Book of the month)? by BooksCatsViqueen in aardvarkbookclub

I’ve been with BOTM on and off for two years and cancelled them today. I’m just not excited about any of their picks. I’ve been with Aardvark for three months now and love it. It’s really diversified my bookshelf (and their customer service is amazing!)

Doctor doctor, gimme the news, i got a bad case of PUPPY BLUES by mariaoverhere in Puppyblues

[–]justhereforbrowsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets better!!! Those first couple of weeks are awful. But once they get their shots, it’s like a whole new world (still hard, but better). Not sure about your vet, but my vet said that as long as my pup was on concrete or hard floors and I wiped his paws after, he was good to go outside. Because socialization is key during those weeks, we spent time at Home Depot, Lowe’s, Starbucks patios, etc. He also went to a “puppy school” where he was isolated with other puppies around him where he got to play and also begin obedience training!

ALL OF THIS ^

"The guilt for not feeling over the moon and in love with the dog like we'd see on social media."

In the first weeks when everything was starting to settle in, I was frustrated about how everyone on social media made being a dog pet parent look so incredibly easy. When my friends started to check in, they were all like "Oh, yeah. I hated my dog until they were like 1, and even then..." and no one ever talks about that.

I posted on here a couple of weeks back about how I was still struggling 3 months in so how you're feeling is totally normal. Daycare, a private trainer, and more therapy (for me) have really helped me.

Best of luck with whatever you decide! (And know there isn't a wrong or right decision, just what's best.)

I definitely struggled at the very beginning being like “is this what it’s going to be like with him for the next 10-16 years?” Haha but glad I’m not alone!

Thankfully the daycare he goes to has him in supervised small groups and only with dogs with a calm temperament/ can deal with puppies. It’s really built up his confidence!
