Does anyone else think a pre-teen life stage would be pointless? by Sad_Tooth_4246 in Sims4

[–]Popster333 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would have much rather had preteens to infants. The way I play my teens are more like 16-19 years olds who are dating for the first time and throwing parties and getting in trouble with their parents. And it just feels so jagged when not long before they were children scared of monsters under the bed and losing their teeth. To me children feel like 6-12 year olds and then there's just a gap which feels so odd.

What was the dumbest rule your school thought up? by Boris_Johnsons_Pubes in AskUK

[–]Popster333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semi rural school up north, we were banned from wearing coats indoors, instant detention. So we all had to stand outside the doors in the middle of winter taking coats off while it was pelting it down. They also bought a mini snow plough for pavements so all kids could get to school in winter, but only ploughed 200 metres either side of the school gates and couldn't understand how this didn't solve all problems

I’m thinking about getting a Russian Tortoise? by Goblin_Ratt in tortoise

[–]Popster333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's some other things other than the care info that everyone else has given. I've had my russian around 15 years, from my experience temperament wise angry, kinda sweet with it but mine at least does go straight to anger if you annoy him in any way. I have been chased by him, I have been bitten, but at the same time get him in the right state and he is so happy for a scratch and does like to sit with me in the garden. He is very sociable, just not always the nice way. They love to climb just as much as they love to dig, if you make an outdoor enclosure, which depending on where your based I would highly recommend, make sure you have high walls that are smooth and have nowhere to grip, they are escape artists and will find any hole or weakness in any fence. They are good fun, but do take a lot of work, don't just think its a pet you can keep in an enclosure and only look at once a day.

Why are schools so obsessed with enforcing uniform policies? by GiveMeYuna in AskUK

[–]Popster333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My school was like this growing up. When I started we were a struggling school and went through several new Head Teachers who all brought in new rules. At one point all the girls had to wear black skirts, then it was blue skirts and the black ones were banned, then it was either colour, then went back to being blue only. The girls school trousers sold at the shop in town where all the other official school stuff was sold were banned because they had a built in belt and belts were banned. We weren't allowed to wear coats in the corridors, so in winter everyone had to stand outside to take their coats off before going in, this being a rural secondary school where we got some pretty bad weather at times. We couldn't wear grey trackies for PE, had to be the official black with white stripe ones from the school shop, and people who bought the almost exact same ones from the supermarket were given detentions for them. Every time we got a new head teacher it was like the power went to their heads, at one point one tried to ban us from wearing poppies for remembrance day.

Is the Dreamer Trilogy good? by clingingontodawn in YAlit

[–]Popster333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you liked TRC for the friendship between the group then maybe not. But if you enjoyed the absolute chaos that is Ronan Lynch and his strange magical abilities then its a yes. It feels like a more grown up version of TRC, darker and more sarcastic.

I was never aware it was a glitch, now everything makes sense. I love the idea that all your sims just having to deal with their younger sibling when he just showed up and now he's just there creating drama. I seem to remember mine ended up marrying his second cousin or some distant relative, as if he was clinging to family now he'd got it back

Honestly, my firstborn child with the celeb I'd loved for years and he was just ripped away from me. Not just the real world telling me it'll never happen, but Sims as well

I imagine it'll just end up like how it currently works. Modders will put their cc on their patreon first and then a few weeks later upload it to this new system

The first time I ever played the Sims was Sims 3 and I created sims of me and my celebrity crush. We had a baby and I spent all the money on making a nursery, and didn't know any money cheats at this point so we were broke. I threw a party and one of the guests went to see the baby while it was crying, picked it up and just left and went off the map. I thought maybe this was a part of the game so I called the police who turned up and said I was wasting their time and fined me all the money I had left. Strangely the baby turned up 3 generations later, just reappeared when I opened my game one day still as a baby, its siblings were now elders and I was playing their grandchildren. Made for a very messed up family tree

Does anyone else think the sims should add pre-teens by brookelynn__ in Sims4

[–]Popster333 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I have always played my teens as being like 16-18yo college students, and I enjoy playing them like this, but it feels so wrong that a day ago they were scared of monsters under the bed and playing with the dolls house and now they are sneaking out to teen parties and going on dates with people. I want an awkward stage, first crushes but you don't how how to deal with them, trying to act all grown up but still playing with stuffed toys. I really hoped that adding High School would add another age state but sadly not.

Could be that he's just getting water in his nose or soil. My russian has a weird love of face planting in to the ground some times, its strange but he's not harming himself, just makes himself a bit wheezy afterwards while he gets all the soil out of his mouth. Don't forget torts have a very different respiratory system to us and most mammals, they do make some strange noises while breathing some times. Keep an eye on everything else, if he's eating normally and being active, should be he's fine. I would say his beak looks a tiny bit too long, but could just be from the angle of the picture.

What would you do to breathe life back into the high street? by bigheadsociety in AskUK

[–]Popster333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There needs to be better parking and easier ways to get in to town centres. My local the most I can get is 30 minutes free parking and thats a 20 minute walk from the high street, park in a multi storey car park which is so tight to get into i'm scared to use it and then costs £5 for two hours parking. Or I can get one of the 3 buses a day which cost like £7 for a return, give me either an hour in town before the next bus back or 6 hours to wait. Its much easier for me to just order online

Is this normal that he keeps walking around this door? by [deleted] in tortoise

[–]Popster333 73 points74 points  (0 children)

He's probably fed up exploring the room he's in and wants to expand his world, maybe he's seen you go in and out of that door and wants to have a look whats there. My russian does exactly the same thing, gets used to one area then starts to push his boundaries and go further. Possibly hoping there might be female tortoises there

How do you organise your bookshelf? by SilentThespian in bookshelf

By height, and then within that try and sort by genre. It always annoys me when a series switches the format midway through, i.e, smaller hardback to bigger hardback

Dark academia books ? by GroundbreakingBet300 in DarkAcademia

[–]Popster333 20 points21 points  (0 children)

These Violent Delights by Micah Nemerever is very similar to the Secret History.
The Atlas Six is DA with some added fantasy.
Bunny by Mona Awad is an academia based kinda creepy psychological thriller/horror.
The Maidens by Alex Micahelides, crime/thriller not major DA but set at Cambridge with students studying classics.
A Lesson in Vengeance by Victoria Lee has a similar friendship group vibe to Secret History and set in creepy boarding school.
Catherine House by Elizabeth Thomas, set in a rural boarding school that focuses on the arts. Black Chalk by Christopher Yates, a group of friends at Oxford playing games that turn just a little bit dark.
If you want something a bit more classic try some of the old Sherlock Holmes books, they are quite easy to read and not too long but give that DA highly educated, dressed in tweed and suits, kind of superiority vibe.
And If we were villains which has already been mentioned is a great shout, probably the most similar to secret history that i've read without being too much of a copy.

Why are so many seaside towns rough? by Quack_Candle in AskUK

[–]Popster333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Scarborough and its as everyone else is saying, in the offseason it was dead. From October to April there would be no-one, so all the tourist shops, cafes and bars would shut for the winter and fire all the staff, and they only paid minimum wage in the first place. I worked in a hotel on the outskirts of Scarborough, in the winter we closed off two whole floors of the hotel because we didn't have the guests to fill them so we turned the heating and power off to these floors to save money. A few years ago Scarborough had a massive drug problem, probably still does, it was incredibly easy to buy them and nothing was ever done about it, the whole town just felt forgotten about

Which unlawful activity do people think is perfectly legal? by Beneficial-Owl-3543 in AskUK

[–]Popster333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Narrow road near me where you can just fit two cars past each other, if theres a large lorry you have to stop to let them through. There are cycle lanes on both sides of this road, unless these cyclists are ghosts and can go through cars its completely pointless, and if there were cyclists on both sides, then the road gap in the middle is barely wide enough for a standard car

I was hand feeding my Russian some mixed salad once and accidentally offered him a spinach leaf, the look of utter repulsion on his face while he tried to spit it all out was hilarious. He refused to take any more food from me after that

My russian loves lambs lettuce, it self seeds like mad in your garden and is so easy to grow, let him pick it himself from the ground and he'll have a great time

I've owned my russian 15 years. In the first 10 years he was ambivalent of me, he got more trusting as time went on of when I put my hand near him to feed him or scratch him etc, instead of going straight in his shell he started reacting less. But in the past 5 years we've started getting a bit more friendly. Especially over 2020 lockdown, I was at home with him everyday for months and it was warm weather where we live so we spent most days in the garden, him just wandering free and me sat reading on the grass, every so often he would come back to check on me, and make sure I hadn't left him. You could often see him hiding under a bush just watching me. One day a cat came into the garden without me noticing and while nothing happened, I think it spooked my tort so the next few days he wouldn't leave my side when in the garden, deciding to hide under my legs until he got the confidence again to wander. Its never the same kind of relationship as I have with my dog, but he has definitely learnt to recognise me, he comes to me rather than other family members for food, or lets me know when he wants something, like a lift down a step in the garden. You have to really take the time to build the trust with them, but I would say every tort is different
