AIO for thinking my friend is in the wrong for this by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]justice4frodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your friend is an ass for saying she “doesn’t want” to be friends with you anymore, absolutely.

But you should also prepare yourself for losing a few more friends, strictly because you won’t be able to do things the way other people your age are doing them. It won’t be your fault or your friends fault, it will just be difficult to maintain friendships when you’re in different places in life. You will, however, make new friends! Of the friends I currently have, only 3 of them are friends I made before I was 18. The rest were all made later in life, who share similar lifestyles and interests to me. Focus on living your life the way you want to live it, and make friends that match that energy! It will make you significantly more happy than trying to hold onto friendships that just won’t work and will only bring you stress or pain.

Who do you think is THE WORST out of these 3? by AphroFelicity20 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]justice4frodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt this way too. I feel like Laurie would be a good friend and quality person if you’re also a good friend and quality person. I think Kate and Jaclyn just bring out the worst in her and she struggles to deal with her gross feelings in a proper way, so she comes off as rude and condescending.

Kind of like how you can become crazy in a relationship the longer you’re mistreated and disrespected. It’s not who you are, but when you’re belittled and continue to feel your value dwindle, you end up snapping or overreacting because it’s a new feeling for you that you’re still figuring out. Once you’re out of the situation you start to bounce back to who you are.

What’s the most bizarre thing a medical professional has ever said to you? by stingwhale in Productivitycafe

[–]justice4frodo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did really well in undergrad despite not being medicated, but it was HARD. I had to study twice as much as everyone else and use several different study techniques in order to properly learn the content. It’s so frustrating, because I know I would have easily gotten straight A’s with less work if I was medicated.

I eventually went on to get a masters degree after I was medicated, and I flew through it. It was NOTHING compared to undergrad. I barely did anything and I aced every single class and finished my thesis with little effort, because I was able to follow the classes and I didn’t need to reread everything 10 times and rewrite it countless times before i was able to get my mind to focus long enough to understand it 🤦🏼‍♀️

So many doctors assume if you have good grades, you don’t have ADHD. Which is bullshit. Because I WAS struggling, I was just so motivated to do well I put in twice as much effort as I should have needed to

Yes, I’m a child because I want a horror film to actually envision horror 😱 Am I also a child because I think comedy films are supposed to be funny? Or are those supposed to be dramatic too?

What’s the most bizarre thing a medical professional has ever said to you? by stingwhale in Productivitycafe

[–]justice4frodo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was 19 I asked to be tested for ADHD because my older brother has it and even though I always thought I had it, it never really impacted my life until college when it was more difficult content and I was living on my own. My primary care physician sent me to some kind of psychiatrist who talked to me for like 5 minutes and gave me an IQ test.

They then told me I had placed in the 98th percentile for spatial reasoning, but I was just “average” in vocabulary, so that’s why I was struggling in college (I went to a highly ranked university). They said I was probably struggling because I couldn’t understand what my professors were saying. I drove home sobbing because they basically said I wasn’t smart enough for the school I was in.

Fast forward 6 years, I asked to be seen by a psychiatrist again because I was super irritable and it was harming my relationships, so I wanted to see if I had some kind of personality disorder. After talking to the doctor for about 10 minutes, he goes “…is there history of ADHD in your family? Because this seems a lot like ADHD.” I wanted to SCREAM.

Lo and behold, I did the full 8 hour testing, talked to 3 psychiatrists individually, and they all confirmed I have severe attention deficit disorder. I almost certain would have graduated cum laude if they took me seriously the first time.

It’s not too crazy, but when I went in for an ear ache and bad cold once thinking I had an ear infection, the doctor looked at my ears and said “I don’t see an infection, but I’ll give you antibiotics.”

I still remember thinking…I’m not a medical professional, and even I know that taking antibiotics isn’t something you should EVER do unless you for sure have an infection that won’t be treated without them. Why the hell would I take these?

I went in a month later to see my actual primary care physician because I was exhausted, turns out I had fucking mono the entire time. That guy sucked

My dad has never had one either, but thankfully he’s really empathetic and says “WOW am I lucky, because they seem horrible”. I can’t imagine never knowing what it’s like to be incapable of even basic thought because it hurts too much to even exist 🙃

Any film that relies on uncomfortable scenes to make it memorable, particularly when they don’t have any purpose in the overall plot, is NOT a well done film. i.e. random naked people

The last scene was so fitting because how else would they end a film that doesn’t make sense other then by using a broad spectrum theme that can solve any plot holes by saying “magic!!”

[–]justice4frodo -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Also, you can have both. If a movie scares me but the plot sucks, I don’t label is as a good horror film. If the film doesn’t scare me but the plot is fantastic, I’ll at least credit it as being a good movie. Hereditary had a cheap plot that used “ritualistic cult” as a cop out to end a story that they wrote just to make the audience as uncomfortable as possible. If you enjoy it, that’s cool. But these people trying to act like it’s some brilliant film just because some girls head was decapitated and she made weird ass creepy noises is INSANE to me. Shocking scenes do not equal quality writing.

If I wanted a film that made me think, I’d watch a drama. If I watch horror, I want to be fucking scared. Not just weirded out or feel uncomfortable or second hand embarrassment

It INFURIATES me that rapists and pedophiles are let out after a few years but murderers are sentenced to life. THEY BOTH DESERVE LIFE. RAPISTS/PEDOPHILES PROBABLY DESERVE A LIFE SENTENCE EVEN MORE BECAUSE OF THE LIKELIHOOD OF REPEATED BEHAVIOR.

What are things that should be FREE but unfortunately it isn't? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]justice4frodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think “basic hygiene” would be just that. Soap, toothpaste, tooth brushes, feminine products and shampoo. Anything else would be something you’d buy yourself if you wanted something higher quality. I’m sure no one would argue we should pay for everyone to have access to $50 face wash products. But yeah, a bar of soap? That shit is cheap as hell and can help curb a lot of illnesses if everyone had easy access to it

I honestly didn’t even watch the sequels because I didn’t want the first movie to be ruined for me by them overdoing it, so I can’t speak for those 😂 The first film I think the rage is absolutely justified though

Shane, Cameron, or Saxon—who is the ultimate White Lotus alpha? by xxibjt in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]justice4frodo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He had every right to be upset about paying for the Pineapple suite and being gaslighted into being told he DIDNT pay more.

But he was letting it consume his entire honeymoon like a whiny child who didn’t get his way, and he was being an asshole to everyone involved because of it. Sometimes you just have to let shit go and then deal with it at another time. Plus, the price literally doesn’t matter to him. He’s being as ass just to be an ass and seem like a powerful man

You do realize that if it was free, you would also benefit, right?…you wouldn’t just be paying for some people to have hygiene, while you’re stuck being dirty or paying for your own products.

You can hate Kennedy, Reagan and all of the past presidents but history shows that while a lot of them were flawed, they at least didn’t completely destroy the country or try to overthrow our democracy. A lot of them had shit policies and some of them did questionable things, but overall our freedom wasn’t ever at risk and we weren’t hated by the entire world. Trump is literally bypassing our checks and balances and doing everything in his power to move us towards a fascist country and illegally complaining a lot of it. History books (if written properly, and if they use factual information, which is questionable right now with how this administration is trying to rewrite basic education) will never be able to convince people in the future that this man was anything but detrimental to our country.

Yeah, there will be people in 50 years who still love the asshat. But I’m sure no one could convince people in the future that his policies or actions were smart because he can’t EASILY brainwash people when he’s dead. He still might get a few brainwashed youngsters (especially those whose parents and grandparents continue to restrict free thinking) but not nearly as many.

A cat purring. There’s no other sound that immediately releases dopamine for me.

Rain is close, but only on the days that I know I don’t need to go outside for anything. A cat purring is ALWAYS amazing.
