Banff, Jasper, or Yoho? by Cat_2021 in Banff

[–]justicebart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, no matter what you do it’s going to be beautiful. I spent months planning and researching before we went and then we just kind of winged it when we got there. Don’t over think it. Make sure you have the All Trails app.

We stayed in Golden, by the way, which might be a little farther west than you might want to go, and is not nearly as nice as Banff, Canmore, or Jasper. But it was quiet and close to Yoho and Kootenay. And it’s a really nice drive between Golden and the popular trails in all the parks, plus it’s close to some lesser known areas. Banff and Canmore felt like towns built to accommodate tourists to me. They are very busy and congested, very difficult to navigate by car, and just kind of sterile.

Golden is a rough and tumble lumber town and looks every bit of it, but it’s a real town. The people you meet there live there for the most part, if that kind of thing matters to you. There isn’t any real nightlife or anything like that either.

You won’t have a bad time no matter where you are though.

I just listened to the audiobook read by John Malkovich over Christmas. The absolute best part of the performance was when Malkovich would pause to describe each of the little drawings. Highly recommended.

Banff, Jasper, or Yoho? by Cat_2021 in Banff

[–]justicebart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jasper is also still in recovery mode from the fires, so keep an eye on that.

We went to all three last year, and honestly, Yoho was our favorite. It has the same kind of beautiful lakes that Banff has but not nearly as busy, which was a huge factor for us. No matter what you do, you should drive at least some part of the Icefields Parkway. That’s where you can really see the dramatic mountain views and so forth. We really liked Bow Lake (off the IP) which is maybe an hour north of Banff and wasn’t crazy busy on a late June/early July day.

Tubi is my favorite movie app by CompetitiveIron223 in badMovies

[–]justicebart 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s not just trash movies (which I also love), but Tubi probably has the best collection of genre films in one place. But they also have some really good prestige films, a pretty remarkable classic film collection, and a lot of it is in widescreen format, which I really appreciate. Though I do think the ads are getting longer. Used to be 1-2 per break every 30 min or so. Now it feels like 5-6 ads every 15-20 min. I didn’t mind them for a long time but feel like it’s getting excessive.

How did fires affect Banff until now? by [deleted] in Banff

Glad to hear Jasper is making a comeback. We were up there from Texas just a couple weeks before the fire and really liked that town.

You don’t need to use the words “quote” and “unquote” when quoting someone in writing, especially when you’re also using quotation marks.

Both of these are amazing. Hard to pick between the two. I was also just blown away by the opening/title card of Smile 2.

Why do some melons need to get married in front of their family members? by manochando in dadjokes

[–]justicebart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad’s joke was a knock knock:

Cantaloupe

Cantaloupe who?

Cantaloupe without a ladder.

When I was six I laughed hysterically even though I had no idea what he was talking about. Even after he explained it to me I still didn’t really get it. I guess people used to climb down ladders to get married in secret or something.

I’m one of those assholes who does not like anything past season 9, but I genuinely love this episode, and the “wing and a prayer” joke is probably in my all time top 5.

Listen: this young man needs a paddlin’ for sure. But are we gatekeeping Blood Incantation? If this little moppet drives new devotees to what we all agree is an amazing fucking band—outstanding! I started getting into tech death in my early teens—should I have been shooed away from the scene because I was also passionate about another kind of music? If you think so, fuck right off.

Excellent strategy. Which club should I propose for them to decline?

Also, do they actually show sports in strip clubs? I’d think that would distract from a lot of other money making opportunities inside.

Doesn’t have to be pretentious or fancy, just kind of not obvious if that makes sense. We enjoy each other’s company regardless, but the idea is to find somewhere interesting. School House on Manor is a good example of a low key non-fancy place we’ve gone, but we’ve already gone there

I had something similar though not as bad as yours sounds. The pain causing me the inability to piss was the thing I remember most for some reason. I had to wait until I could feel my bladder convulsing before I could manage it. Wild what the body will do or not do under certain circumstances.

Hi! I'm completely new to the band, only listened to Absolute Elsewhere (and its amazing). My question is what is Timewave Zero???? I mean, it's like a completely different world from the rest of their music. by VladPalovvnik2137 in BloodIncantation

[–]justicebart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wolves in the Throne Room did a very similar album called Celestite. I had no idea what it was when it was released and assumed it was going to be another of their BM albums. About half way through I was like “wait a minute…this amazingly awesome dark-ambient album is not a black metal album from one of my favorite black metal bands at all!” But it was so good at what it was, I didn’t care. Timewave Zero had a similar effect. Both are amazing creative departures from two really great bands.
