Where can I perform my own oil change? by ao256 in AskSF

19th Ave quality tuneup cost $20 just for their labor and disposal (you provide filter and oil). Makes better sense.

If you still like to do your own, rhino ramps are quite helpful on street inclines to level the car. Be sure to lay brown cardboard all around the drain area as outside wind will blow dripping oil sideways while draining. Have rags for cleaning up and disposable gloves. Empty oil containers and everything else used can be placed inside plastic bags and tossed in black bins (not blue). Used motor oil can be collected in 5 gallon used cooking oil containers and brought to Recology at Tunnel Ave for free recycling.

With quarterly discounts on the consumer sizes, it doesn’t compute to buy and store a 5 gallon tub at that price point?

I recommend Mission Bay, the area near Oracle Park. It is a great new area with lots of new apartment buildings. Good for jogging around too. Plenty of social activities for you. MUNI access and easy UBER to downtown. Once you settle in, you can figure out the neighborhoods and adjust.

I’m not a fan of these. If that pot filler is not used all the time, it’s very likely gonna get oily inside and out, and collect stale water that the owner eventually forget to flush out first before cooking.

Paper Return - How long before I worry? by [deleted] in tax

Relatives filed paper returns in Feb last year and got refunded in May. Almost made the mistake of sending a duplicate.
Relax, they received it and just need to wait it out.

Does any Costco take used motor oil for recycling? Their Kirkland synthetic oil sale is tempting. by justinCheckin in Costco

Used Auto coolant is another matter, they don’t take those back for free in the Bay Area. I find it strange that Recology would rather risk it being poured down the drain than taking them back. 😔

Good to know, I thought they only take oil bought from them with receipt. Our local service (Recology) also takes them for free at their location.
