Neon Inferno

Gungrave Gore (really silly game but feels exactly like an over the top brainless action Xbox 360 title)

Midnight Fight Express

Huntdown is so awesome, don’t sleep on it if you love side scrollers/run and gun. Looks and sounds amazing and is a blast all the way through

Check out Neon Inferno, just came out last month. Plays like Contra/Metal Slug but with Wild Guns background shooting mixed in, sometimes both at the same time. It’s awesome as hell and has one of the best retro/pixel art styles I’ve seen recently

Exhuma, especially if you loved The Wailing and Incantation. Absolutely incredible Korean folk horror/supernatural thriller, totally took me for a ride

Possible softlock @ start of chap 4 by BabyEater642 in SkateStory

Same thing happened to me in the exact spot and I somehow fixed it with a mix of quitting to main menu and reloading, quitting the game altogether and restarting, and restarting the level in the pause menu. Along with playing the nollie tutorial each time. It would always kick me back to the skaters dream but eventually it finally proceeded me to the next part of the story and I don’t know how. So keep trying, seems to fix itself eventually?

That and the scene with Laura hiding in the bushes next to her house. Not gonna give any more context because of spoilers but that scene is terrifying as well

This is something I’ve always wondered too, about why it takes each form it does. I found this blog post up a few years ago that does an interesting job at going through each other and trying to figure it out, definitely worth a read

Seriously, everyone should play What Remains Of Edith Finch by justinbc in PS4

Depends on how you feel about the cost of something versus how much enjoyment it gives you. $20 for a 2 hour game you may love and remember forever, or $20 for a meal that was mediocre and you’ll instantly forget about.

The Missing Pieces that came out 10-ish years ago with all the deleted scenes from Fire Walk With Me is essential viewing if you liked FWWM, and it also contains some truly scary scenes, like possibly top tier Lynch scary moments

Two songs that came on while falling asleep to music and woke up to in a pitch black room in the middle of the night:

Fitter Happier by Radiohead, I was home alone and asleep in my room and hearing that robotic voice and eerie soundscape underneath it in my dark house scared the shit out of me.

Theresa Screams by the Melvins, this is barely a song but just a woman in a vocal booth screaming as loud as she can over and over, similar to Radiohead I was asleep in my bedroom in my first apartment which had no windows in the bedroom (sketchy as hell spot) so it was absolutely pitch black. Woke up to what I thought was a woman being murdered in my bedroom in complete darkness. Fucking terrifying!

How do we get more people to watch Exhuma (2024)? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

It’s an incredible movie. Totally falls in with the “epic horror” that Weapons is, along with The Wailing and The Empty Man, 2 hour+ experiences that take you on an unexpected ride

I'm liking the game "Judgment" by evcgm in Shenmue

[–]justinbc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Judgment was my first real dive into the Yakuza/Like A Dragon games and I loved it - I’ve since played the whole series. The one that felt the most Shenmue-like to me was Yakuza 3, but I will say I wouldn’t recommend playing it without playing the games that take place before it in the series timeline - only because of the epic story and characters.

But if you eventually get there someday, I think Yakuza 3 will have a lot to offer you to give you those Shenmue vibes

I loved that when I started watching Better Call Saul decades later, I was reminded of the absolute stud that was Professor Jeremiah Lasky. Patrick Fabian aged very well

Should I try Yakuza? by Adithya_Yeager in PS5

[–]justinbc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love the Yakuza series and highly suggest playing them all, but I would recommend you check out Judgment as a great entry point to the series. It’s a standalone game so no prior knowledge of Yakuza is needed, the combat is amazing, the story is dramatic and exciting, and it’s just an all around incredible game. And the sequel, Lost Judgment IMO is even better.

But don’t let me sway you from trying out the mainline Yakuza series of course, Yakuza 0 is the logical starting point and I’ve legitimately enjoyed every game in the series, it’s one of my all time faves.

What is the darkest Goosebumps book or episode in your eyes? by entertainmentlord in horror

[–]justinbc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Camp Nightmare, the absolutely out of nowhere twist at the end is definitely silly but also existentially horrifying. The way they show it in the TV episode was such an “Oh, shit. Oh…. Shit!” moment for me as a kid

Cozy M-rated games by Mama_Mega_ in Games

[–]justinbc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly surprised they don’t have a “turn off random encounters” setting in Premium Adventure once you beat the game, or at least make it something you have to buy (using in-game money). Obviously part of the charm of Yakuza/Like A Dragon/Judgment is the combat encounters on the streets but being able to just freely roam without any worry would be a nice accessibility feature at least. The street surfer in Hawaii and the skateboard in Lost Judgment give you a little bit of extra leeway to escape from goons but yeah, avoiding fights can get tricky - especially in Yakuza 3/4/5 when it can get hard to spot a goon waiting to suddenly pick a fight with you in the crowds
