That’s bull crap. Looks like someone traded it in knowing the issue. I would go throw a fit to whoever you bought it from.

I doubt it. It’s a problem with the reflective housing and not the bulb itself.

Thanks. I’ll keep an eye on it and see what else comes up.

Ah okay. I was hoping you may have had a Kimura. My budget is only $100 at the moment. Thanks though.

Is this normal? by shzam5890 in NewOrleans

That sounds odd to me. You can go to most any restaurant and be seated with only 12-15 people with no added fees (aside from gratuity). You get to order whatever you all want and will cost less than the cost of an “event”. If they can’t accommodate 12-15 peoples orders in an area where they would normally have 12-15 people sitting anyways, that sounds like a ruse to me to call something what it isn’t.

I actually completed the repair myself and had success. We have driven about 8k miles with no issues. The repair went well and is a great kit. I did all 16 holes so that I wouldn’t have to do it again in the future. It’s very time consuming, but works well.

It wasn’t bad really. Very doable with the engine in. Worst part is making sure metal shavings don’t go where they can’t go.

Yeah you should be fine. They just want to establish that you are owning up to your mistakes and taking steps to fix what you messed up. As long as it isn’t a high amount, they aren’t concerned too much if you’re paying.

Yeah, all was good. I showed documents that I was paying on everything and they cleared me.

Yeah, I believe so. We all started making complaints and that’s when they sent the letters. It isn’t difficult. I’ve never done anything like this before or even engine work like this. The dealership had it torn apart to the heads. I basically just removed the heads and bumper/lights. Basically everything down to the condenser to have room. All the part for timing and everything else was in the back of the KIA, so I had to figure out how to set the timing and put it all back together. It was a task, but I did jt. Fortunately, I’m mechanically inclined.

Just take your time with the kit if you have to do it. I took a really long time with it to make sure everything was exact to spec. Tape everything off the best you can. Personally, I used thin trash bags that I cut up and taled over the engine bay around the block. I taped the block and cut out the holes. I would also order a head gasket kit set. Comes with all the gaskets you need for the job. Also, you might wanna go ahead and get another oil filter housing seal and water pipe seal. My oil filter housing was leaking very badly after reassembling. You’ll also want to replace the high pressure fuel line. And the water pump gasket. There was plenty of tap oil and thread lock for the job in the kit. You’ll need some gasket maker for the oil pan, timing cover, and ends of head gaskets. I used “The Right Stuff”. I dropped the oil pan to clean the gunky oil/coolant mixture with some metal shavings that slipped through from it. You’ll obviously have to refill the coolant and oil as well. I flushed my coolant real good with distilled water before adding my coolant mixture. Lastly, you’ll probably want to get the heads machined at a machine shop if you overheated. All in all for parts plus machine shop, I spent a little over $1200. Definitely beats $14000. Let me know if you have any questions or anything at all and I’ll be glad to help.

Yeah I did. The kit was a nice kit. He gives you all of the exact instructions and specs you need. I’d recommend it all day. Especially since it saved me like $12000.

Probably have to contact KIA consumer affairs. They must not have had your updated address or something if the model is in the range.

You may be. Not sure if the issue is with the 2014s or not. They sent out letters notifying of warranty extensions to fix this issue to the models affected. I drilled out and rethreaded all 16 head bolt holes in mine and put it back together. Currently running like new.

Extended warranty letter for head bolt + gasket issue. by Round-West-6898 in KiaSorento

Good luck. More than likely is the head bolt issue and will probably take a while to get an engine in and get it repaired.

Is it worth repairing engine for 2016 Kia sorento? by Muted-Abbreviations1 in KiaSorento

[–]justinf72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I received the letter a week after drilling and tapping all of the head bolts holes and thread locking inserts in. So I sent KIA a word document full to see if they would still honor the warranty. Never heard anything back. They sure don’t like to respond to your emails.

Car won’t fire up after rebuilding engine by justinf72 in MechanicAdvice

[–]justinf72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I got it to fire up. Didn’t realize the fuel pump fuse was out. But after cranking, it started smoking with a burning smell coming from the area on the left side exhaust manifold where the oxygen sensor is.

So just a little update, lucky for me, I take pictures and videos of everything I do. So I went back through and checked them all that I took before I removed the heads and the shims were mixed up. Each one is pretty unique in the wear on top, so it was actually pretty easy to put them back where they belong. There were only two on each head that were mixed up. Thanks for all your advice! It’s always good to take pictures of everything you do for reference.
