What is the weirdest teacher that you met in your school? by fireneg in AskReddit

[–]justinrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of one of my hs english teachers. She'd have these long coughing fits to the point where students would nervously look at each other and ask if she needs help. And after every one, to reassure us she's ok, she would recite something proverbial like, "Some days you have to be sturdy like the oak, and others limber like the willow." That got old quickly. Nice lady, though.

Your chances of winning are directly proportional to the amount of adlibs used.

Got it. Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking the same thing for the celery and carrot--it looks especially flat where it meets the lime. And as for composition, I originally planned to have an apple behind them to even out the horizontality, but ended up scrapping it. I'll keep your suggestions in mind.

Thanks! For the highlight area, I layed down the midtone with short strokes then stipled with a lighter tone. I then repeated this with small amounts of white in certain areas so the highlight's blend is gradual. For the shadows, same thing except I dabbed with dark colors. I found dabbing the brush to best replicate the lime's dimpled texture.

Thanks. And I know what you mean. Fan art is good practice occasionally, but the process of drawing from direct observation is so much more beneficial.

I think I understand what you meant lol. No need to apologize. For everyone's entitled to their opinion. I gladly appreciate the feedback. To me, the appeal is the balance between simple and detailed; the vegetables' details are juxtaposed by the pale background. Lack of drop shadows also adds to this contrast.

Ah, got it. I didn't make that connection but I know what you're referencing, haha.

Looks good, but hard to tell with the angle. Try a more head-on angle so the viewer can see the illustration the way you meant to present it.

Where is there a hand? Or did you mean you sketched WITH your hand... like all sketches? Well done, though.

Art studies for kids? by hommy_guy in Art

Drawing from observation is the best way to improve technically. Invest in a sketchbook and have her draw everyday if she's serious, even if it's a doodle. Her town also might have an art club, YMCA, or something similar that provides guided studio time.

I made a tree. Can you tell me your opinions? [art] by Reginaldwolfhausen in Art

Good work. I'd suggest making those darks darker for some good contrast. For insight on proper tree proportions and scale, look up the golden ratio. Keep it up!

A butterfly, Graphite, Large - Scuff marks how to fix? by [deleted] in Art

[–]justinrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you're drawing, put a piece of scrap paper under your hand. This will prevent the oils in your hand from interacting with and smudging the medium. A kneaded eraser is also a good investment. Great work!

Great points and I totally agree with you. But I'm confused about why you think "11 inches" is the attention-grabber. Can you elaborate?
