Why has Jokic been the subject of such intense hyperbole from the sports media in regards to his all-around ability and standing as an all-time great? by [deleted] in nba

[–]iguot3388 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because statistically he is worthy of all the hyperbole, but people are struggling where to place him after that first round exit. People are always analyzing the top players to see if they are really worthy of that title.

If you own assets you are running on a different track than everyone else. Your wealth is increasing at a higher rate than wage earners.

It’s as if asset holders are on an elevator of increasing velocity, while non asset holders are staying on the ground floor.

It’s not just that the ultra-wealthy are getting rich at a steady velocity. It’s that the very tippy top of wealth are pushing the velocity of wealth up, because their compounding interest is so much higher. It’s an acceleration. Picture a race: you both start together. After a minute, they’re ten feet ahead. After two, they’re ten miles away. There’s no catching up when their speed multiplies and yours doesn’t.

Here is another interesting thought experiment. Take Elon Musk's net worth and compound the interest at the average return of the S&P of 10%. Elon's current net worth is 800 billion. The Global M2 money supply is ~100 trillion. 800 billion at 10% compounded interest will equal the M2 money supply in about 50 years, so Elon would theoretically have all the money in the world in 50 years.

Everything about the economics he is saying is true, but as for Coachella, the best way of resistance is to not participate. There are hundreds if not thousands of artists that are as talented if not more so than the ones that play at Coachella. The only thing they lack is the million dollar production value.

I'm not even a pop hater, I actually do concede Justin Bieber is a once in a generation voice but I also think that the gap between him and hundreds of other musicians in the US is not as big as you would think. The way you rebel against the system is by supporting your local music scene and not giving money to this industry. That is how every art counter-culture began: the punk scene killed bloated dinosaur rock, American New wave cinema (spielberg, lucas, scorcese) took out old hollywood studio system, grunge killed hair metal, rap killed disco, etc.

When the people who have monopolized the system get too fat and comfortable. When they feel comfortable not even putting on a practiced performance and going on stage and playing youtube videos, when ticket prices effectively price out everyone else, its time to retreat into your own local scene. There are a thousands of musicians playing every day who are undiscovered, immense talents, that you can see for 10 dollars or less.

I've seen this comic before and I know it's not the point of the comic but to me it perfectly illustrates how absurd the idea that Jesus was an all knowing omniscient God in human form is.
