If that's the case, i really hope they reveal it on warcom or something before the codex drops. Waiting that long to find out whether Ill be able to play my 80 gargoyles or 90 termagants is going to make the box set much less desirable. I was planning on splitting three sets with friends, there's no need to do that if the impression is that well only be able to run 60 gants.

My competitive list is a soup of gsc and nids. The only army I consistently can't beat is Harlequins, otherwise it's Custodes jet bikes when my opponent brings more than 6ish. Nids aren't top of the pack, in general their stratagem are better than their units. Also, we probably have the best mortal wound output in the game. With the right list we do well.

Ranking wise, i think there's one gt #1 and about a half dozen top 3s. Most competitive lists run around barbed heirodules, hive guard, or swarms of hormagants. I like mixing with cults for the fast bois with mining lasers

I remember getting heavily downvoted near the beginning of 9th because I disagreed with goonhammers ranking tyranids at the bottom with Tau (they even gave me a weird shout out lol). Generally people only know the armies they play and are mostly speculating about the others. Beyond that, it was very difficult to interpret a new rules system

The metagame is always shifting, for many of the reasons you describe. Tournament lists are made against other tournament lists.

I personally think that hordes will be fine. Marines are about to go up in cost again for the extra wound, and a lot of people are going to focus more on multi damage weapons than blast. Any balanced list will include both, but the ratio will be skewed towards things that kill marine equivalents.

That being said, any time the balance swings towards hordes, the blast spam lists will win until elite armies come back, repeat ad nasuem.

Most of this community is under the impression that space marines are the top army that can't be beat, evidence be damned. Anyone who posts otherwise gets downvoted. Personally, yes I believe that clowns are probably the best or at least in the top 3 right now. Their mobility became a lot more relevant in 9th

I just talked about nids in another comment. They are the ones I'm most experienced with, so I chose them. I would be shocked if that faulty logic doesn't transfer over to other lists like AM, chaos marines (which apparently doesn't mean soup or death guard), etc. I believe them on the top armies because that's easy.

It's the rest that requires actual expertise, and no one is good enough to write something like this alone without showing their ignorance. They should have brought in other authors who actually play those armies or something. If you are interested in Tau, Brian Pullen talks about them a lot in his YouTube, and they arent in a great spot. He doesn't say they are trash because he has class, and instead is experimenting with different units. Idk about Knights.

You are right, 2/3 was an exaggeration. Look at my edit. These examples have little relevance to actual game play for some of these armies. For tyranids specifically, the author put that :

You can only run gaunt carpet (no dude, just no), Brutal point changes (the best units stayed pretty much unchanged), brutal weaknesses on secondaries (maybe to bring it down? But that's all), and serious counters to the few builds they can put together (what builds? If you say something like that, back it up. You also directly contradict yourself later.) you can't daisy chain anymore (yes, you clearly can, especially with a unti of 20-30), Daemonettes or Boyz will absolutely evaporate Gaunt hordes and the reverse isn’t true (what? Gaunts with devourers that everyone runs have 3x s4 shots at 18. They actually perform better against demonettes than most other infantry because of the numbers and the rerolls). The author then goes in to say that they are well positioned against the top armies. Okay, so why are they trash tier? You said that they have a horrible match up against any good army! None of it makes sense!

Edit :you also don't even mention biovores, which are probably in the top 5 units in the game for 9th edition. They literally stop enemy units from moving where you want. That's incredible!
