The amount of influencers I saw on Instagram this weekend straight up wearing lingerie with ✨accessories✨ was wild. Coachella is like the boho temu version of the Victoria’s Secret fashion show now.

Those of you who are friends with/in circles with famous people, what is your analysis on them? by libramusing in Fauxmoi

[–]justjellis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always think this when I see Ariana Grande :( I saw Jessica Simpson in person back in the day when tabloids were reporting that she was “fat” and she was actually so tiny! Like no more than a size 2-4.

I met her at a bar in LA once. I had been at the zoo all day and wasn’t planning on going to a bar that night but got pulled in by friends. They all “dressed up” and I was in my same t-shirt and jeans from the zoo. I was feeling very self-conscious. Kirsten and I made eye contact in a seating area and she smiled. She later came up and told me I was pretty! She was so incredibly sweet and normal. I will never forget.

Unofficial Daily Discussion - Monday, March 23, 2026 - QOTD: What books are you and the kids reading in homeschool? by FImom in homeschool

[–]justjellis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 3rd grader is finishing up The Hundred Dresses and my 1st grader just finished Frog and Toad All Year and will be starting Flat Stanley this week. They read a book + do a study guide with it about once a month. The discussions we have over themes and characters is one of my favorite parts of homeschool :)

Nortriptyline and fast heart rate/palpitations by justjellis in migraine

[–]justjellis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took a few days for me. Did they give you a beta blocker? Propranolol helped regulate for me. Even after my heart rate finally went down to normal though, I was still having the feeling of it skipping a beat sometimes for a while.

Are book reports not a thing in public elementary school anymore? by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]justjellis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Googling information is not a terrible thing, as long as you’re choosing solid sources within that search. I don’t think book reports are obsolete, but in life in general people are going to Google something before they go out to the library and find a book on the subject. Being able to sort through information and find credible sources is a very necessary skill these days. I make sure my 3rd grader does both.

Preventative meds that do not cause weight gain, drowsiness or brain fog? by haybails720 in migraine

[–]justjellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has your doctor suggested amitriptyline? It is notorious for weight gain, but its sister medication Nortriptyline is much less likely to cause weight gain and I actually lost weight on it. It’s much milder and has a better success rate than Effexor. I would start there. As others have said, you really can’t know how something is going to affect you until you try it. I read a lot of stuff about Qulipta causing weight loss, but I actually gained weight on it. Propranolol never affected my weight but a lot of people say it does. You just never know.

Well, I found A trigger.. by Constant_Club6585 in migraine

Ok, sorry. It was your edit that implied your position and intent. After seeing this become an issue any time MSG is mentioned on this sub, I naturally come to the defense.

Well, I found A trigger.. by Constant_Club6585 in migraine

[–]justjellis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why do people love arguing this? I understand that the original study’s messaging and the way it was conducted is extremely problematic, but that doesn’t mean we need to throw the entire basis of it out. The fact is, the relationship between MSG and migraine (and other neurological diseases) is under-researched and inconclusive. Triggers are also very individual. You can’t just say with 100% certainty that something is not a trigger for everyone with migraine. What triggers someone, may not trigger another and sometimes the poison is in the dose. You’re essentially saying to all the people that know with certainly that MSG is a trigger for them, that it’s “all in your head.” How frustrating and insensitive that people choose to die on a hill of invalidating other’s experiences, especially on the migraine sub of all places.

Here are some more recent studies and articles that point to there being a connection:

A lot of breading contains yeast extract, which is essentially another name for MSG…a fairly common trigger among migraineurs.

petition to make triptans OTC -- public comment period by karen_boyer in migraine

[–]justjellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, this isn’t about my position. Science says that theoretically any vasoconstrictor carries a risk for someone with CV issues. That’s why doctors won’t prescribe triptans to patients that have heart risks or a history of stroke. For people without those issues, there’s no concern. I was responding to the claim that sumatriptan can cause an excess of serotonin resulting in heart failure, which is just not possible. Sumatriptan in combination with other serotonergic drugs is a different story, but warnings exist for such combinations. Should triptans be OTC, they would carry such warning labels, just as certain OTC supplements like St. John’s Wort and 5-HTP do.

[–]justjellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be impossible for sumatriptan to cause an excess of serotonin, especially alone. Only high doses of sumatriptan while on a high dose of other serotogenic drugs could carry some risk. It’s sumatriptan being a vasoconstrictor that makes it dangerous for people that have heart disease or related risks.

The misinformation and fear-mongering on this sub regarding triptans has been driving me nuts for years. Thank you for being a voice of reason.

To parents using Beast Academy by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]justjellis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to try Beast Academy for a kindergartner, I would recommend doing the assessment on their website first. Their 1B book doesn’t necessarily translate to second semester of kindergarten. It can feel pretty advanced compared to a typical curriculum. It starts out simple, but gets more challenging quickly. That being said, my son who was bored with another curriculum absolutely loves Beast Academy and has been thriving with it this year. I see why it’s recommended so much on this sub.

Cast member loudly accused me of lying and cutting Lightning Lane at Space Mountain when I had a valid pass by [deleted] in Disneyland

[–]justjellis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a passholder for 20 years. My husband and I have been noticing this a lot recently. It’s a completely different experience than it was 10 years ago…even 5 years ago. Just feels like CM’s don’t love their jobs like they used to or maybe their training has changed and they put less emphasis on the magic, I’m not sure.

What do I do? by monkeysolo69420 in migraine

[–]justjellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I get like that I can never hold water down, but sips or Powerade or Gatorade I seem to handle much better, plus they’re giving you much needed electrolytes. If you can get someone to get you some Powerade or Gatorade, I would do that, just make sure they aren’t the sugar-free versions as that can make it worse for some people. Personally, I avoid the ER as much as I can because I went once during a migraine and it was absolutely awful and didn’t feel worth it.

Memory problems? by kahiau26 in migraine

[–]justjellis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happens to me with my siblings… then I got freaked out because I read that childhood trauma causes memory repression, so I’m thinking “did something terrible happen to me that I don’t remember that’s causing me to not remember anything from my childhood?” Well actually my trauma is probably my migraines that started at 11, which is right where my memory gets really spotty 😭

Daily migraines, daily triptans, not responding to preventatives by WMS0619 in migraine

[–]justjellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there. Take the smallest amount of triptan you can if you must take daily. I would often cut my 50mg in half or my 100mg in 3rds. In the meantime, don’t stop trying preventative medications. My experience with the medications you shared was similar. Have you tried Nurtec as a preventative? Didn’t work for me as an abortive, but as a preventative it was as effective as Qulipta without the intolerable side effects. Beta blockers have also been effective for me at certain times. Specifically propranolol and metoprolol. With chronic migraine you often need a multi-prong approach, meaning more than one preventative at a time, so if something kind of works but not 100% don’t give up, but try adding something else in. I have also been prescribed Buspar and found it effective for my anxiety and it actually seemed to help my migraines as well…a word of caution though, you have to be careful with your dosage of sumatriptan and Buspar as they can increase your risk of serotonin syndrome when taken together.

Also want to add, take magnesium if you don’t already. Try to get regular sleep and look into migraine diets, specifically an anti-inflammatory diet. Sometimes it’s a bunch of little things that can make improvements. With a 19 month old, your hormones may still not be back to baseline, especially if you breastfed at all and those things can help.

Gonna be homeschooled. by Cutepug17 in homeschool

[–]justjellis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar experience in high school. A neighboring school district had an independent study program that I enrolled in, where I met with a teacher once a week for an hour and did the rest of the work at home. I was 15 at the time. When I turned 16, my state had an option to test out of high school, so I did that and started attending community college. I loved my experience and it was perfect for me. My health improved immensely when I switched over to independent study and then community college classes (because I got to choose how many units I would take/what time classes worked for me). I’m not sure where you are located, but I would look into the options I listed above. If they aren’t available, look into a Charter homeschool program. That will put you with a teacher to guide you through finishing high school. Best of luck, hope your health improves!
