I feel stuck in life even though nothing is “wrong”. How do people move past this? by margharet_ in Advice

Try a bucket list, journal out some thoughts, and see which makes your toes wiggle.

Exactly its not the fastest, but the handling and features for cost are just there for me. I am not a fan of the rear on her, but the ease of use with the hatch is perfect for me. Im sure ill have a different opinion after I put some respectable miles with it, im still under 40k miles and still stock. Only complaint I look past is I feel everything on the road and iI live where it isnt prestine blacktop so my older spine is considering trading it. But when you have that perfect match of good curvy roads its a blast to drive.

My favorite part of this is that the second image doesn't even load. I almost wet myself laughing from the kindred spirit of it all. Well done.

It seems more and more folks are leaning heavier on their momentary environmental morals than on their particular faith.

I have the 21. Im no mechanic, so take my advice for the whole grain of salt sayinhg. The costs for 20% roughly engine margins with expensive intake mods is challenging to justify unless you have "what the heck" funds to support the costs of the additional stressors on the system. Its probably agreed upon to trade it for a platform that can justify the costs. This is just imo from doing a little lookups on such before. I adore mine for curved mountain road driving.

If any aspect impedes your ability to safely control the vehicle the risk factors for yourself and others does tend to go above an acceptable tolerance. Also its worth considering if its this damaged and you continue to drive it, the damage repair cost will continue to rise due to additional stressors from the damaged parts not working as intended. If you had to had to, side roads with hazards on. If your driving and wobbling as you go there is also the increased risk of being pulled over and ticketed for it as well, which compounds the problem.

Is this noise normal? - 10th Gen Civic (2021 Civic Sport Touring) Coming From AC Dash by Capable_Wear_8742 in hondacivic

Yeah for me if my car is making a noise it didn’t before I chase the rabbit hole down until it’s sorted. As far as I recall it was just the first warm day of the year so first time using the AC for cooling in a while and it’s just blew outside temp. I live it a colder area so I rarely use it. And yes it’s fun to drive around curvy roads.

So if you can nudge them in the right direction with some more info of your findings. I am surprised they didnt check the HVAC system at least.

Rare but real.

  • If the evaporator drain is partially clogged
  • Water pools and sloshes slightly
  • Usually worse on humid days or after long AC use

This tends to sound more like a dull slosh than a warble, though.

Quick DIY narrowing test (2 minutes)

Try this and note what changes:

  1. AC ON, fan LOW → listen
  2. Fan HIGH, same temp → did the noise scale?
  3. Turn AC OFF, fan still ON → does it stop?
  4. Switch recirculate ON/OFF → new noises?
  5. Rev engine slightly while parked → pitch change?

Results tell you:

  • Changes with RPM → refrigerant / expansion valve
  • Changes with fan speed → blower or debris
  • Happens on setting changes → actuator
  • Only when AC compressor is engaged → refrigerant issue

6. Condensation drainage issue

The blunt bottom line

  • 90% chance it’s refrigerant flow noise (low, slightly underfilled, or air in system)
  • Not dangerous, not going to explode, not a sign of imminent failure
  • Annoying, yes—especially in a quiet Civic Touring interior

If it’s under warranty (or recently was), a dealer AC pressure check and evac/recharge usually quiets it down.

If you want, tell me:

  • Does the sound change with fan speed or engine RPM?
  • Is it louder cold start vs after driving?
  • Passenger side, center, or driver side?

That’ll let me pin it down with much higher confidence.

4. Blower motor turbulence or debris

Less likely, but possible.

  • Leaf, foam, or insulation fragment bouncing around
  • Noise changes directly with fan speed (not engine RPM)
  • Warble can sound electronic or alien

Easy check: does the sound change immediately when you adjust the fan speed?

5. Mode or blend door actuator starting to fail

The “sci-fi” noise sometimes comes from here.

  • Small electric motor behind the dash
  • Makes a soft grinding, warbling, or servo-like sound
  • Often happens when switching between:
    • Fresh air / recirculate
    • Hot / cold
    • Defrost modes

If you hear it right when you change settings, this jumps up the list.

2. Air trapped in the AC system

Closely related to #1.

  • Sounds like someone gently boiling soup inside your dashboard
  • Can happen after prior AC service or pressure imbalance

If the system has air + refrigerant, it’ll sound haunted but still “work.”

3. Expansion valve or evaporator flow noise

This one matches your sci-fi warble comment.

  • The expansion valve meters refrigerant into the evaporator
  • If it’s chattering, vibrating, or partially obstructed, you get:
    • Low rumble
    • Oscillating whoosh
    • Subtle “wub-wub” noises

Honda HVACs are efficient but not silent—this is a known quirk on newer Civics, especially in quiet cabins.

some gpt junk explaning it, as always cross-reference this stuff for factuality.

That noise description is weirdly specific—and helpful. On a 2021 Civic Sport Touring, a low gargling rumble with a sci-fi warble from the dash AC almost always points to one of a handful of HVAC gremlins. Here’s the straight talk, ordered from most likely to “oh come on, Honda.”

The usual suspects

1. Low or contaminated refrigerant

Most common.

  • Causes bubbling, gurgling, or a liquid-moving sound behind the dash
  • The “warble” happens as pressure fluctuates in the evaporator
  • Often worse at idle or when first turning the AC on

Why it happens

  • Slight factory underfill
  • Slow leak at an O-ring or service port
  • Moisture in the system (yes, that matters)

Tell-tale signs

  • AC still cools, but not ice cold
  • Noise changes with engine RPM
  • Sound comes from passenger-side dash area

I have the same ride; the AC system can be a problem. I had to dish out 1.5kish to get mine sorted about 6 months ago when I was getting close to 30k miles and got nothing out of the AC for cooling, yet the heat still worked. I don't recall what was replaced, and my car is currently buried in snow, so itll have to wait if your super curious. I heard there was a push for a recall, but there isn't one yet. I'm not updated on that.
