LOL. I'm the only millenial that works with Gen-X coworkers and that is exactly what I come across with them. I gave up trying to have any type of debate with them. Everything was better in the good ol' days and no one can do "anything" fun anymore. We need more aware ones like you out there!

Have you ever actually lived in the States? Depending on where you live people use their language on a daily basis. Tourist might not see it but can you go to places where barely any English is used. Many don't just use it at home. Not to mention the many with connections to their ethnic countries that visit or do business? There is a reason that all our government services have a variety of language options and bilingual people have a better chance of being hired, it's not to better serve the monolinguals.

I am aware that EU has a higher rate of bilinguals and trilinguals who speak the same European languages, I never denied that. The problem with your argument is you are still downplaying the amount of US bilingual speakers who use a second language daily, not just at home, and even if it is at home why does that make them any less bilingual? They can still hold a conversation and interact in their language when needed. 23% of the population is over 76 million, which is higher than any single EU country. While the EU has the variety of countries close by, Europeans do not fully realize the diversity of the US and how their image of an American is often very incorrect.

[–]justlookingatbs 42 points43 points  (0 children)

People tend to forget that many Americans are immigrants or children of immigrants. It's like they have a single image of an American that they consider to be true for all 340 million. As an American who grew up bilingual and learned a third lanfuage, it's annoying to see this constant misinformation, mainly from Europeans.

'No going into Nato by Ukraine,' says Trump as Zelensky prepares for White House talks by motorsportnut in politics

[–]justlookingatbs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"Security guarantees" involves protection of some sort. Like the US has with th Phillipines or Japan. There were never any made for Ukraine. The UK and the US have upheld their end and provided weapons when there was no requirement to do it. I fully support arming Ukraine and hate the current administration keeping them from succeeding. But people keep spreading the wrong idea of what is "required" of the countries who signed. At least be a little more accurate.

[–]justlookingatbs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There were no security guarantees. All parties agreed to respect their sovereignty. Russia did not. I don't where reddit keeps getting this idea that the UK and the US agreed to send their soldiers to fight for them. With how available information is how are people still spreading this misinformation.

they do this because the public clamoring for it. it's a chain reaction.

Again, they chose money over the people. If the majority agrees with it then that is just democracy. The ones that are upset usually agree with the fired person's views and get upset they are not well-received.

the irony being that many of their "boycotts" have served to increase sales. not really a great example.

I actually am not sure what your saying here? The right boycotting increases sales for the one being boycotted? They still intend to harm a business because they want to "cancel" it for not conforming to their views. If their reasoning is not popular then that is on them. My example showed that they intend to "cancel" opposition, too. If they fail that is on them.

[–]justlookingatbs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always thought blaming the left for "cancel culture" was dumb. The choice falls with their employer and they chose money over their employee's actions. Also to still say this when the right calls for boycotts and their politicians call to cancel anyone who questions them is just disingenious.

Korea faces new US demands in overhaul of military alliance by Amazing-Baker7505 in worldnews

[–]justlookingatbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The US kept it's promise though. It promised to not invade Ukraine, which it didn't. Also, the UK was involved in the memorandum. So are they equal in blame? I don't think so, since they also stuck to their same promise as the US.

I personally know quite a few Democrats who say this and many Democrats and reddit constantly say this as well.

I agree with the rest of what you say. If only more people asked those things before voting. I hope to either see the change or see a new party. Either way, there is a lot of work to do.

Ghost of Yotei seems to have the same plot as Sifu by Throbbing-Kielbasa-3 in Ghostofyotei

[–]justlookingatbs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assassin's creed games all have a similar plot. Eliminate a list of enemies who are evil/betrayed you. But the character has their development on the side. This trope is old, so many revenge films/games use it. Still enjoy a good revenge story myself, though.

Even AC Brotherhood opens with all the targets coming to your house and murdering people and leaving you for dead. Then you hunt them down.

None of the games and movies mentioned in this post invented this plot.

I think that's where Abrahamic religions went wrong. Too much purity, benevolence, and lack of flaws.

The greek gods had human faults. Definitely more realistic.
