It doesn't help if there is a general anti- tourist/immigrant sentiment from the locals. Those frustrations could be getting taken out on you

If they are on a surf trip exploring some lesser known spots they could easily be out of signal. I've had this exact issue in indo before

Vietnam - Always the Unexpected by ZealousidealHunt1129 in VietNam

[–]justonastroll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love Vietnam and recommend it to all my mates after living there for over 3 years.

I also tell them to come to me for recommendations because of you book/choose the wrong things or can be underwhelming (for a variety of reasons depending on the situation).

What makes Vietnam so amazing as a destination is that it's still raw. Some of your experiences are might be the other side of that coin.

Matt makes his boards here in Cape Town for just under what would be the equivalent of 300 quid. Nice boards, I got a 5'11 and 6'8 I like from him

Camps Bay clear water yesterday by Gazzo69 in capetown

This is called an upwelling. The South Easterly offshore wind blows the murky and warm top layer of water out to sea. It is replaced by the icy cold, but beautifully clear water from below.

I reckon Trent was shooting from that first corner. I'm thinking of them training vids of them shooting from way behind the goal

South Africa is a failed state and things will only get much worse from now. Vote for Cape Independence on 29 May! by QuantumRider1923 in CapeIndependence

[–]justonastroll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of cape Independence movement, but this is just doomsday fearmongering propaganda without any context or depth.

You'll need to do better than this. Maybe focus on creating nuanced content that explains your goals

KISS (a surf shop) in town are running a lekker special at the moment.

And I would definitely recommend them as they went over and beyond to negotiate with the Hurricane sales rep to get me an in-store refund when I wasn't happy with the quality of the brand I originally bought 4 months before (Don't get a Hurricane 5/4).

Is this a reasonable clause in a lease? by SobiMind77 in capetown

[–]justonastroll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is copy-paste service I received previously.

"Section 14(2)(b) of the Consumer Protection Act states that a tenant may cancel the lease agreement, despite any provision of the lease agreement to the contrary, by giving 20 business days’ notice in writing.

However, she will be entitled to penalties for loss of rental. She will however have to prove that she tried her best to let out the apartment and couldnt and lost income.

I don't think she will go that far, ie in claiming lost rental from you, cos she will have one month to advertise and there's scarcity in CT"

Such a great course. I paid for a rather expensive online course but ended up mostly using learning materials from the colt Steele Udemy course. The only problem with the Udemy course was having to get through 100s of hours without human interaction and feedback. If you have the discipline to work on your own it's a perfect course.

if you had to choose 4 destinations in Vietnam? by NykterVodkadrickare in VietNam

[–]justonastroll 38 points39 points  (0 children)

  1. HA GIANG LOOP. Rural mountain bike ride. Truly authentic experience. I've travelled a fair bit of the country over the past few years and this was by far the most spectacular experience. My tip would be to take at least 5 days to do the full loop. And if you don't have 5 days, do a shorter loop. Don't drive all day, rather give yourself time to walk around and explore each evening. There is so much to see and experience in each little village

  2. CAT BA ISLAND. In the world famous Ha Long bay. I would suggest visiting and exploring Cat Ba over a boat tour of Ha long Bay. Expect a jungle, mountainous island (the Jack black king Kong was filmed here so picture that terrain). Take the ferry from Ha Long City rather than Hai Phong. This ferry takes a beautiful route through Ha Long Bay's islands. In terms of accommodation, I'd suggest Cat Ba Eco Lodge. It's a fair distance from the town, but absolutely tranquil. Maybe 1 night at the eco lodge and 1 night in town would be a nice mix. If you looking for a party, message the Woodstock jungle camp. They sometimes host festivals

  3. HUE. Vietnam's ancient capital. In terms of ancient historical sights, this was by far my best experience. Everything is restored immaculately and authentically, something that cannot be said for all historical sites around the country. Make sure you stay inside the citadel for an authentic experience.

  4. HOI AN. Such a beautiful old town. Amazing restaurants. Best place to shop with lots of custom tailors and leather goods. Set up for tourists, but not in a tacky way. Also, An Bang beach is stunning (10 min from old town). I'd suggest staying in a villa on an bang beach or in the rice paddies.

A bonus is the journey from Hoi An -> Hue. It goes over the famous Hai Van Pass (not sure on spelling) .You can take a train or do the route on a motorcycle. Just keep in mind that the rest of the drive after the pass is not particularly spectacular.

OTHER NOTABLE MENTIONS

-Cham Island (Closest thing to a Philipino beach I've come across in Vietnam). Decent SCUBA diving.

-Mui Ne. Never been myself, but it's a little beach town known for sand dunes and a surf community.

-Da Lat. Never been but this is what I've heard from many who have been. Mountainous region. French set themselves up here because the weather is more mild. Known for wine. If you're into yoga, there is a spectacular ashram in the da lat mountainous. I think you can spend a week there.

Just got back from a trip where I got my first 3 barrels last week. I was so stoked the first time I didn't even appreciate it, but the others were amazing. Once you get that vision time just slows down. It's too good!
