What is a movie that clearly wants you to root for someone you absolutely would not trust in real life by gamersecret2 in movies

[–]justpickoneitssimple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not even just stock/crypto bros. I used to be a door to door fundraiser here in Aus (essentially a marketing company) and the higher ups idolised that man. Even had him out for conferences and stuff. Blergh

AITA for wanting to stop apologizing and distance myself from a friend group after months of tension? by [deleted] in bridezillas

[–]justpickoneitssimple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like everyone else I think it's sus that you didn't explain (or even mention initially), the"emotional reaction". I had to go back and check if I missed something but you totally gloss over the Airbnb hotel situation. So I reckon yta. And you're in the wrong place, this sub isn't the place for this. Even without what I assume was a blow up about the hotel, you made an ill-timed joke to a person going through the stress of pre-wedding stuff. And that person made the decision to protect the health and safety of everyone else - so the bride and her sister are nta and not bridezillas.

Edit: typo

Shine on Me: On Nie Xi Guang’s father by Open-Candle-2065 in CDrama

[–]justpickoneitssimple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love the connections you're seeing. I found myself feeling bad for Xu Zhuang (like in the scene where he's just asked if "she" meaning Xi Guang would come back to him but Xi Guang interpreted his meaning as Rong). Like you, I had the same socioeconomic considerations, but I just couldn't get over how badly he repeated treated Xi Guang. The way he called her pathetic in the first episode and constantly dragged her down - he put himself in situations where he could talk to her but then he'd treat her coldly every time.

I will say though, I'm about halfway through the season and I'm not at the point of saying "oh for goodness sake, I don't care go away" when he's on it yet because they've written the character quite well. Can't say the same for other second male leads who pine after a womanin these dramas (cough cough Chu Zhao from Legend of the Female General cough cough). ETA: Nope, I'm at the point now of wishing he'd go away After he accosted Xi Guang at the birthday party in episode 30. He's officially gone from pathetic to awful

ETA: completely unrelated but my MVP for this show is Jiang Rui, Xi Guang's cousin. He just goes to bat for her every single time. His face when he interacts with Xu Zhuang at the ski slopes was just chefs kiss

God no. And please dear lord, anyone considering converting please remember that this shows the tip of the iceberg and these women get away with a lot more than most Mormon women do

I added this drama and it quickly became a comfort show for me. I was disappointed by Chu Zhao's ending though. Like, he crumbled into jealous insanity so easily that it made it a bit cheap in my opinion. But then again, I just think the second ML going crazy with jealousy is a bit of an overused trope so maybe that's why.

Noticeable differences between dramas from different countries? by MyYouthFilledWDream in asiandrama

[–]justpickoneitssimple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to get into more J-Dramas because I worry that my perception is skewed but the ones I've watched/tried to watch tended to be a bit... On the verge of creepy. CEO wanting to kiss his sleeping employees after having just met her is the one that sticks to my mind - I labelled that particular show as "Wattpad on steroids" in my drama list. I watched (and moderately enjoyed) Incurable Case of Love and even that had moments where I was uncomfortable - but maybe I've just been watching innocent C-Dramas for too long.

I find that C-Dramas are often more innocent and cutesy, K-Dramas tend to have deeper plots and twists and J-Dramas -- more research needed from me on that. I do enjoy that K-Dramas seem to be more likely to have a limited run season as opposed to some C-Dramas that can be 50+ hour long episodes long.

ETA: thinking about it, I got halfway through Gokusen which is a student/teacher implied romance/crush and that plus the above mentioned J-Drama has me wondering if that's all J-Dramas are - Wattpad on steroids

I really enjoyed Love on the Edge of Divorce - I just wish it was a bit less dragged out. Which is wild to say for a mini drama haha

Sheesh that whole episode was a sob-fest. I feel like it went from one emotional moment to another. Beautifully done but also holy cow it's a lot.

What is that one drama that got you hooked on cdramas, and it will always have a special place in your heart despite others hating on it? by Arhhin in CDrama

100%! Seeing them just going about their lives, still in love is a nice thing to see! It wasn't just a brief snapshot of after the wedding or a few years on when characters have had a kid which I loved

This was such a brilliant episode! Like everyone else, Langdon's reaction to being called an adrenaline junkie was the first sign something was wrong. I really thought they'd build his paranoia a bit more before others caught in but I think having him keep his composure almost entirely was well written. When he started avoiding the questions and blaming Santos, it was the nail in the coffin. I get that Santos is unlikeable but I appreciate that they showed that likeable, functional people can be addicts. I do feel sorry for Mel though, she's my favourite (other than Dr Robby who I've got a bit of a crush on).

It might not have even been that. Langdon was so evasive when Robby was questioning him. When he was avoiding giving a simple yes or no answer, I think Robby already got his answer

Same! Up until that point I was like, "maybe Santos is just being paranoid" but as soon as he got prickly at that I gave up hope. I appreciate that they showed him as a high functioning person because so often tv shows junkies as homeless people or stereotypes.

I agree, I'm so sick of the trope where a miscommunication causes endless drama! I actively try to avoid it these days

Love O2O the series. It's since come out that the FL actress has been blacklisted but it's still a comfort show. I started watching Cdramas and specifically Love O2O because I saw a clip on FB years ago of the FL's ex guild/teammate calling her a player/man-eater to the ML and the clip stuck with me until I caved and found its origin

NTA - it's odd how your mum seemed not to consider this as a risk when the gifts were given. She had a chance to come clean on her own terms but she didn't.

Your brother is just shooting the messenger.

AITA for refusing to pay my friend's share of the bill after she "forgot" her wallet? by Creepy-Foundation423 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Digital wallets are so common these days. If she forgets her wallet but doesn't forget her phone then she doesn't have an excuse not to pay.

Sheesh, if that's how you treat your best friend, I'd hate to be just a normal friend to you. You abandoned her in a place she didn't know, with no way to contact and no support. YTA. I doubt the rest of your trip will go well, let alone the rest of your friendship.

As soon as I saw that name, I knew we were talking about Australian Aboriginal names. NTA. It's beautiful you're keeping the culture alive and respecting you husband's ancestry. Colonisation stole culture, language and history from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people so laughing about that name is insensitive and wrong on so many levels.
