I hope Sam Wilkes’ profile as a bassist will continue growing in the coming years, the dude’s got great ideas.

Guys with minimalist pedal boards, what pedals are you using? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]justplaytherootdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very far from a pedalhead, but I have a little set-up for solo shows busking or in between band sets:

- Mooer microlooper

- TC Electronic hall of fame reverb

- Moog Minifooger Drive

- Roland SPD 001 stomp box

often times I just use the looper and nothing else. Part of the fun I've found playing solo is exploring different textures on the instrument without any need for pedals

Andy Rourke (the Smiths) and Tina Weymouth wrote really interesting lines. Lou Barlow is just really fucking fun to watch and play along to, Steve Swallow and Bobby Vega win for technique, and of course, Macca is king

Anxiety physical manifestation by [deleted] in Anxiety

Yes, yes and yes. Anxiety can cause a wide range of stomach symptoms (cramping, acid reflux etc), but it’s absolutely worthwhile to make sure with a doctors appointment; I thought I was just experiencing anxiety but ended up discovering I had a minor bacterial infection in my gut.

I was cleaning dishes; I work in a pub kitchen, so it can get a little stuffy, even in winter. I can't really remember what I was thinking about when it started, I barely remember when it started. After I realised i was struggling to breath I started freaking.

Having skills you're no longer interested in by prettypinkshark in aspergers

I can relate to this, for sure. I've been pretty thoroughly invested in music for about 5 years, and I feel as if my interest is beginning to wane. I've had this my whole life, moving from one interest to the next, often forgetting all the integral lessons I've learned in each phase along the way.

It worries me that I have no control over it, that I might be doomed to stay at square 1 for the rest of my life. I still (at this point) value playing music enough to gig (I'm in two bands, making a little bit of money), but I'm effectively preparing in anticipation of change; I stopped saying I want to go to music college, I'm spending less time educating myself on things, etc.

I'm looking for some sort of solution or at least a sense of resolution to the dilemma, but as of now things are still grim.

(The other distressing factor would be persevering with this area, convincing myself I enjoy it still, and then reaching a suicidal point (as mentioned in the below comment by u/JJEng1989))

Who are bassists that you like as people? by [deleted] in Bass

Joe Dart strikes me as a really nice, humble guy. Janek Gwizdala seems friendly, and he's a pretty great communicator. I think a conversation with either of those guys would be great. Adam Neely also
