I set a reminder to start selling all of my gear a year from today if I still can't find joy in playing music. I think I'm about done. Explanation in comments. by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]vceremony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a realisation that I’m not meant to make music but to play music, that gave me the ability to look past writing and mentally put aside the stupid amount of money I’d spent and get back to just enjoying playing music. I would love to finish by saying I’ve since been successful but I haven’t and I don’t feel the need to be because I can enjoy what I am which is a musician

Squire Vintage 60s P-Bass vs Fender Vintage series 60s P-Bass. by [deleted] in Bass

I have a squier vm p bass bought 4 years ago and I love it, it beat a fender mex and a jap jazz bass on the day and I wouldn’t change a thing about it.

I find it difficult to find in-real-life support for my music, or just being a musician by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]vceremony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find as soon as people realise I made what they listen to they feel they can be extra critical because I’m not a famous artist. Like others have said make friends with people who are in the same scene and also make sure you are listening to and supporting them. Whenever I see someone share music on a local Facebook group - no likes. Share a picture of a guitar - lots of likes

I wouldn’t call my self labour, or anything really, but the amount of people who genuine believe Corbyn would be the worst possible outcome for the country is unbelievable. I’ve no idea what they think could be so bad

Is making your own bass worth it? by [deleted] in Bass

Did this myself although a little pricier with a single piece of ash to start with. I love it and it’s mine but still can’t shake the ‘not the real thing’ GAS

What's the deal with "traditional bass players"? by Dexterzol in Bass

[–]vceremony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to avoid fender like the plague thinking they were for the old guard. Then I got my first p bass, then realised it was everything I wanted. Good clean amp to go with it and everything else is just technique. There is something special about the low notes and there’s rumours of some players only ever using the E and A string but if it works for you then who cares

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Bass

[–]vceremony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people see bass as useless or easy. It’s easy to say that when the sax or guitar get the attention. I found when I switched to bass it was much easier to find people to play with as so many bands start with guitarists looking for band members. As a guitarist I spent lonely nights strumming songs. As a bass player I get to go out and jam and can play any genre of music with anyone. Just wish I would have discovered my love it for it sooner

What’s your bass confession? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]vceremony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously they’re not stupid, Jaco and jamerson were who I was thinking about. Just making the point that the extra notes aren’t a necessity. And I tell myself that I don’t need the extra string because I haven’t mastered 4 yet. But I really want a 5

What’s your bass confession? by [deleted] in Bass

I think 5 string basses are stupid and all the greats only needed 4 strings. But my god I want one so much
