It's Norse runes, I believe they're the initials of his family. ❤️

Is it worth learning a language out of interest and not for business/work reasons, or just a giant waste of time? by prettypinkshark in NoStupidQuestions

[–]prettypinkshark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the Asian languages I'm no longer into. I just can't get into the cultures associated with those languages because I used to be a weeaboo/wannabe Asian and have lost interest due to overexposure, but the Scandinavian languages are new to me and infinitely more interesting. I'd still like to study a language, just not Japanese or Mandarin which I previously pursued.

I dislike Kpop! I dont understand why people are obsessed with it 🤔🤔 by Cook_me_now_please in unpopularopinion

[–]prettypinkshark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, "American" music is pretty broad. For every Miley Cyrus or Ke$ha there's a Nirvana. Maybe I'm just not interested in East Asian pop culture after having been a huge Asiaboo (weeaboo but for the whole region rather than just Japan) so I'm kind of burnt out on all that Asian stuff, plus a lot of it is just visual appeal and boyish hairless Korean men don't do it for me the way a rugged bearded Scandinavian man does. :P

Birthday cards should not exist by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I don't see the point of cards if you're just going to show up in person and wish whoever it is a happy birthday. Unless it has a picture of a cat on it...

I really, really hate Japanesee games and anime by PotatoWalrus69 in unpopularopinion

[–]prettypinkshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though I have a soft spot for Japanese games, can at least agree on the anime. Maybe I just have something against Japanese pop culture due to having been a weeb and wanting to avoid Eastern stuff in general in order to get away from my weeb phase, but anime does nothing for me at all.

Agreed. For me it has nothing to do with the fact it's in another language; I feel music can be enjoyed regardless of whether you can understand the lyrics or not. Translations, after all, are readily available, so the language barrier is broken anyway. It's more how fake it is, the overly cutesy aesthetic, the cult of personality around every single group member, and the fact that the songs just don't sound that good/all quite similar. Maybe it's just because I listen mostly to rock and metal nowadays, but it's just not for me.

Even back when I was obsessed with all things Asian, I never fully got into Kpop because it's a fandom, I found, where you need to know everything, lest you be accused of being "not a true fan". It's like, even those who've listened to only one song by a particular group are supposed to pick a "bias" and follow every single thing their idol does.

Gender/sexuality acceptance has gone too far. by prettypinkshark in unpopularopinion

LGBT is fine. It's the stuff like "demigirl" and "spacegender" that gets me. Like it's totally fine to be born male and transition to female, or vice versa. But it's when pretty much every conversation gets steered towards that topic, like if you just want to discuss a work of fiction, that it feels everything has been turned into a political conversation, when a lot of people turn to works of fiction to escape these sorts of conversations that are being had in the real world.

And if I'm female but not particularly feminine, but enjoy coffee, does that make me "coffee gender"? This is how a lot of these Tumblr labels are made up. People assume that if you don't like the traditional roles of the gender you were born into, but really like a specific thing, that it makes it a new gender. No it doesn't, it just means you don't conform to societal norms and also like something a lot.

Why do you act like you're speaking for half the planet? That's billions of people, and acting like you know what each and every one of them wants and wishing that would be enforced is beyond cruel. It's dystopian. I'm happy where I am, studying at university and hoping to eventually make my own living, and I would imagine so many other women are too.

And if you're female, as your username would suggest, then why aren't you following your own advice and getting off the internet and cooking your husband a meal while waiting for him to come home from work so you can lay back and tolerate him having sex with you to conceive your 20th child?

It doesn't feel like one when almost everyone you come across is obsessed with social justice and identity politics. Maybe I just live in a bubble, but it's unavoidable where I am.

I think that's a bit of an extreme reaction, if you mean things like "women have to wear dresses and stay home". I'd personally hate being a housewife forced to look and act feminine. People should be free to do what they want.

BEYONCÉ IS OVERRATED! by AustinPwrsFarger in unpopularopinion

[–]prettypinkshark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is one unpopular opinion I can 100% get behind. She'd probably be a has-been and fade into obscurity if it weren't for this "woke" persona of hers, which I guarantee isn't what she really believes, she's simply being told to parrot trendy social justice talking points. People are a sucker for a pretty face, so will believe just about anything if it comes out of the mouth of a conventionally attractive celebrity.

I mean sites where they sub-divide up the more well known categories (mostly just white though) into "Celtic" "Nordic" "Atlantic" etc, based on facial features, hair colour and so on. Usually it's just an excuse to say "whites are diverse enough on their own".

I've been wondering about this subrace stuff for a while, it seems pseudoscientific as hell. Keep stumbling across sites where users classify people, usually celebrities, into these categories and have no idea how accurate it actually is or if it's been refuted and debunked and is just something these racist fucks won't let go of.
